Description

Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.

In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?

Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

For those who care the game DOES boot up on good ol' windows 7 X64. It will NOT install through GOG galaxy, but you can force install it by downloading all the offline installers. Cheers!

After 20 hours of play

Ive played basically every post-apocalyptic game associated with Fallout and its predecessor Wasteland. After about 20 hours I would say that the game is more or less complete but it has some issues that hold it back from greatness. PROS: -Weight management was scrapped, all inventory shared. Weight balancing is rarely fun in an RPG and, with the amount of items, it wouldve been quite boring and painful to manage. One design decision Im thankful for -It retains the same dark and violent humor that made the earlier Fallout games memorable -Interesting story and the feeling that your choices are really making an impact. Lots of "little things" that seem to have no impact can have a major impact. Well implemented story mechanics. -Combat system feels more cohesive but also more difficult than WL 2. Harder to exploit certain playstyle CONS: -Loading times are atrocious and hamper the enjoyment of the game mid-to-late since you will be doing a lot more travelling. All people of various specs have this issue, having a top of the line computer does not correct this. The wait times are typically 30-40 seconds which is not so bad except that you will often have to go through 3 or 4 loading screens to get to your destination. There is no fast travel to speak of so you will have to wade through an entire map just to get back to your truck at times. A fast travel map, at least within the current location, would have made up for poor loading times. Backtracking is very painful for this reason. -The game gave me a timed mission out of nowhere but wasn't clear that there was a timer which was a bit odd since the game had never had a timed mission up till this point. I failed it simply because the game didn't signal to the player that it was timed. I guess this is kind of the unpredictability that you expect from WL. -Numerous problems related to poor optimization. Stuttering, major FPS drops but overall, its playable. I recommend, but you may consider waiting for some updates.

Excellent continuation of the series

First off, I backed this game on Fig years ago. Even though I got the alpha key, I did not play it as I wanted to wait until it has released. The good: Quick to pick up. Character designs have much improved. Dialog interation is more engaging. Better voice action, Good amount of graphics options. Can disable Motion blur and Depth of Field. Support for high frame rate. Have not played enough to comment on story. More graphic than the last game. The cons: Camera feels slippery when trying to move it. Have not figured out how to select entire party to move with a single key, interface and level design feels more dumbed down than previous game. Sometimes when trying to interact with an object, the icon disappears. Load times little long, even on M.2 drive.

Excellent gameplay & story, minor flaws.

Pros: Everything that isn't in the cons list. Literally. It is a great game. If the rating system had more granularity, it's be closer to a 4.8 for me. Visuals are excellent, sound design excellent, story elements and progression excellent. Cons: 1. The camera constantly zooms in during dialogue, and doesn't automatically zoom out to where you had it. In addition, it doesn't quite zoom out far enough for my tastes. 2. The outfits are comically proportioned, and make it look like you're dealing with cartoon characters that have normal human heads. (this does not apply to most NPCs) 3. The unlimited shared, weightless inventory, while something I would really like the option to have in most games, doesn't quite feel like it is a thing that should be on all the time for all difficulty levels. I'd switch that to a startup option that is enabled for the easiest two difficulties, and disabled for the hardest. (just give it a max weight/space limit based on all character's strength put together, no need for seperate inventories) 4. Dialogue progression (not dialogue option selection) requires you to click in certain areas of the screen, (above or below the on-screen text box that is not clearly defined) and it's not intuitive to do. This is likely to be a sticking point for some players, and an annoyance to players that play the game regularly. 5. The game loses focus to Windows in the background during loading screens. This causes flickering of the Windows taskbar to show over the game itself, and the Windows loading cursor to show instead of the in-game one. ?. GOG Galaxy failed to properly download and apply the icon for the shortcut on the desktop. (this doesn't count against the game itself) I hope some of the issues get fixed, but even if they don't, this game is worth the money IMO. The setting is much less bron, and feels more alive and realistic to me than Wasteland 2.

Here since the original.

Played the original on C64. Backer of WL2 and this one. Pretty good so far. A few bugs. Everytime I enter a new area, one of my main characters loses 20% of his constitution. That's frustrating. I'm also not big on the dumbing down of the inventory management using group inventory with no weight. Advancement through conversations is kind of crappy as well. Some times the text advances to the next paragraph on it's own, sometimes it needs to be advanced by clicking on the screen. And that's not always easy because not everywhere on the screen is an active spot to do so. The battle sequence has changed making initiative less important than in WL2. Everybody on one side goes, then the other. The camera movement is a little stiff. Rotating the camera is done by pushing the button for every turn segment. There is no holding it. The action is good. The combat difficulty and skill challenges seem to match my expectations of the game difficulty I chose. So far I was more impressed with WL2.
