Description

Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.

In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?

Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

Having a blast in the wasteland

I am thoroughly enjoying this game, between the animation details (you can even see your breath in the cold air!) to the action animations during combat, and the way it removes the visual barriers (i.e. roofs) it is 5 stars. I have played all of the Fallout Series (except Tactics) and it is a joy to learn about its' origins and play in the great stories behind it. The Animal Whisperer is a hoot and who knew rabbits and foxes could actually be helpful? This game has so many different features, it will take a couple/few play-throughs to explore them all. Some, like Weird Science I am supremely curious about. As a full time gamer (retired now!) I look forward to exploring this in both single and co-op modes. My better half did not have to twist my arm when she suggested this title. I don't do very many reviews – but this was one, I wanted to share my joy of the game. Well Done! Wasteland Team. Well Done!

Very good - but wait for patches

Wasteland 3 is polished in presentation but has some serious teething issues with launch and the number of bugs and balance issues present. Considering that the first game had similar issues, this isn't really that surprising. Its a solid turn based combat rpg with an interesting plot. I would recommend purchasing it, but it is likely worthwhile to wait a few months for serious patches to hit considering the current state of the game. (issues are considerably more pronounced on console than PC) Overall a reasonable purchase.

A fun traditional RPG but ... buggy

There aren't many RPGs I play from start to finish from the moment I buy them - I usually give them a short whirl of a few hours and then go back to them a few months or years later to give them a proper go. Wasteland 3 I did complete on my first go and I did have a blast but with some caveats. First of all, here's the good bits: - there are a lot of stats - there are interesting new combat mechanics that make combat a lot more fun - there's a whole new setting to explore - the good old choice-making and story-branching is back Basically this is Wasteland 2 with extra bells and whistles but there's also some less than stellar stuff and I want to point those out: First of all, this game is filled with little bugs. I'm sure many of them will get ironed out but I'm baffled how certain bugs slipped past testing since they're all over the place. From small ones like containers you can't loot unless you reload a save game to massive game breaking bugs because the devs didn't take into account certain combinations of choices. Those last ones are being patched but the tip is: make plenty of solid saves! Don't rely on quicksaves only Second of all, the game feels odd in scope at times. While the game is the perfect length for an RPG (around 50-60 hours with all side quests done on easy) I did feel as if there was room for more proper side quests. The majority of side quests involved driving somewhere, shooting the enemies and there, done. Some were entertaining like the Santa one but it feels as if content was cut short. The map had room for way more locations - I hope they won't add them as DLC. Thirdly, just like in Wasteland 2, the balance is all over the place. Unless you know the right order to do things in, you're likely to have a very hard time. I advise you to start on easy and on replays you can ramp up the difficulty once you know where to find the better guns and which skills work out best.

After one complete story

3.5 stars but close to 3 stars. My Ranger RPG is: - Leader is a Hard Ass Leader who trained heavily in assault rifles. - 2nd in command is his best friend and mate. She likes it up close and personal with melee and shotguns. - We love Arizona (we actually live in AZ =) ) and have been given the mission to assist 'this Patriarch'. TLDR: Fun missions, brutal envisioned world where deep south has moved into Colorado (for no reason why LOL!!!). Game systems are fragile and the camera is simply painful. Game Play part: The story is good and the concept is fine. After nuclear fallout the world has gone to a very brutal side which is to be expected actually. Arizona went through a 'Skynet' like battle and had to nuke their own base. Raiders everywhere essentially are using humans as slaves and cattle. This game expresses that brutality in full light. Very mature content. The stories keep to this with wild doses of flavor. This gives this a 4.5 to 5 star. But...... This game is riddled with bugs. I was indeed able to complete it but I have a very large number of reloads just because the display gets stuck on => Enemy Turn. F-ing reload....AGAIN. F-U Dev! Test your sh-i-t! Also I had a large number of ability issues with APs....like one of my followers in power armor could not move....showed 7 AP but she could not move (she has enough strength) then put it on my 2nd in command and she moves fine with it. Lots of strange issues like this. Also end up having to simply close down the game and start it back up to reset some of these glitches. No idea why....maybe it is the Unity engine itself? In any case many hours lost to this game's glitches. The camera, the f-ing camera SUCKS in this game. So the devs try to do a camera like NWN1 or NWN2 (exploration mode) and completely f-ck it up. I mean come on. There is no way a testing crew plays this and says 'Yep...Perfect'. Especially when there are a number of camera controls out there they can copy the designs from since they WORK!

Yet another bugtastic COOP experience

I really really really, really, REALLY wish developers would bother to Q&A their products even just a little. Most of the issues I have encountered so far were within the first few hours of playing.. The actual game is incredibly fun! The COOP so far seems to be a buggy and janky mess of proportions most epic. If you or your partner leave the session the game locks up for the other person if they are not in the menu. The non host cannot use injury kits on NPCs. There are numerous desync issues with enemy and ally health, status ailments, and other stuffs. Swapping characters from one player to another is.. odd. Why? In Divinity you open a menu and move them around live. Not here! You open the main menu then press "squad management" then wait until a screen pops up then both players must hit confirm. Entering conversations already in progress takes one round of dialogue to properly sync up. Because of the lockup issue players can not join then re-enter active coop sessions. I am certain as we play more discoveries will be made. It feels like a single player game with coop bolted onto it. If you are purchasing this specifically with the coop in your mind be cautious and prepare for troubleshooting. Much much of the troubleshooting. If you can deal with this, it is worth it. One additional thing, I could not imagine attempting to coordinate playing this without a voip client especially if you wish to have two custom characters per player. I am in the same room as my partner and it is STILL a nightmare.
