Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.
In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.
You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?
Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

M1 Pro/Max note: Apple users with new M1 Pro or M1 Max chips should note that there are known graphical issues when playing Wasteland 3. This appears to impact multiple titles built in Unity (the engine the game is based on), and is known by Unity and Apple to resolve at the engine and/or OS level. We do not have an ETA when this may be resolved. Until further notice we recommend against playing Wasteland 3 on the M1 Pro/Max chips. These issues do not appear to occur on the base M1 chips; however, your experience may vary.
GOG version supports cross-play co-op via Direct IP.

Wasteland 3 is maybe an average to above average one of these games. You roam the wasteland, read dialogue, find loot, go on fetch quests, put your tanks up front and shooters behind cover in the back. You've probably played games like it before.
The co-op puts it above and beyond though. If you're looking for a "truly" co-op CRPG, your options are essentially the Divinity:OS games and this. Older similar games generally play like Player 1 and Player 1's Helper(s). It's a huge amount of fun playing through offline story based tactical RPGs like this with my partner, and for whatever reason there's so, so few of them like it. The scarcity in the co-op genre puts it among the top of the genre by default.
This game isn't perfect (what is?), but it has strengths across the board. I'd give it a high 4 star rating, but rounding up to 5 because I can't give a fractional score.
Pros:
* The squad based tactical combat is so much fun it's hard to stop playing "just a little more".
* Graphics are a big step up from WL2
* Story is engaging so far.
* The weapons system, weapons customization, and usable items are plentiful and fun to customize.
* On "Ranger" difficulty, it's challenging but not frustrating. Good difficulty level.
* Music is great.
* It's very adult humor: not for kids.
* Moral dilemmas abound: like real life, the right action is not always clear.
* Zero crashes, freezes, or serious bugs so far (about 30 hours in). Some of the low scores in other reviews were due to bugs, and InXile has patched most of the game breakers by now.
Cons:
Many of the bugs people complained about earlier have been fixed in patches, but there are still some things that need to be improved:
* The key response can be slow, for example in rotating the view.
* Sometimes I wish I could adjust the view tilt, as well as rotation.
* There are some less severe issues, like losing pets if you alter your party.
Overall, I'd give this game top marks if you like RPGs, deep tactical combat, and exploring a well imagined world.
I like most of the game and its story but the humor feels excessive and takes away any other emotional substance this game could have had. I spent half the game with a companion robot named "Party Pal", shaped like a disco ball, a fun joke for 3 minutes but it followed me around for the rest of the game (10hours more).
A more serious take on the next game please. (I enjoyed Wasteland 2)
* world graphics are nice, character models are a disaster
* story is okay, but very predictable
* inventory and character management are still a mess
* having to create 2 player characters is still dumb (but at least its not 4)
* very few NPC followers
* balancing is totally random, expect A LOT of trial-and-error
* EXTREME loading times for tiny maps
Overall Wasteland 3 feels like the Director's Cut of Wasteland 2, a console port of a PC game. You can feel the love the developers have for their game, but you are also constantly reminded that they have no idea how to make a good game out of their vision.
Asking 70 bucks for this is a joke. Get it on sale, then its okay.
Don't give this game 1/5 if it is not running on your system. How is it fair? What does it have to do with me, if this game runs on my system? Why do people still use Win 7? That's the real question. Didn't Microsoft drop support for that 6 years ish ago? Here's another riddle, why don't people read the system requirements before they buy the game? oh well..
Let's address the game then:
Only issue I faced so far is when I am in a crowded place, if I am hitting Shift to highlight objects, it will stutter. And my computer is no punk. But that's it.
The bad:
LOADING SCREENS!!!!! Bring a book with you, so you don't lose your mind. You can get a Phd while waiting for the screens to load.
The good:
1. Shared inventory with no weight limit.
2. If one character has a skill, you will be able to use it in conversation and bartering, even if they are not the character doing the talking. ALL GAMES SHOULD DO THIS (I'm talking to you DOS2). I think in Divinity Original Sin 2, 80% of the time I played, was inventory management and bartering only with the certified character. Inventory management and bartering here is a breeze.
3. A lot of cool skills and weapons. I am a few hours in and already planning my next playthough. The gameplay is fun.
4. Voice acting on some of these NPCs is great. For an NPC to make me laugh after all these years I'm playing games, not easy.
Anyway, I'm working from home, and there's a boring meeting, so I decided to review the game. It is not a perfect game, but neither was Wasteland 2. It is fun to play, that's what I know. I gave it a 5/5 to offset the, what I think, is unjust 1/5s it got for not loading on win7.
But otherwise, it's a 4/5. So you know..
If you came all this way to see if a random stranger on the internet thinks you shuold buy it, then buy it. Otherwise, just buy it.
