Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.
In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.
You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?
Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

M1 Pro/Max note: Apple users with new M1 Pro or M1 Max chips should note that there are known graphical issues when playing Wasteland 3. This appears to impact multiple titles built in Unity (the engine the game is based on), and is known by Unity and Apple to resolve at the engine and/or OS level. We do not have an ETA when this may be resolved. Until further notice we recommend against playing Wasteland 3 on the M1 Pro/Max chips. These issues do not appear to occur on the base M1 chips; however, your experience may vary.

The game is not as serious as Wasteland 2 was, some things got changed to make the game more easy and appealing but I had fun with it, constantly wondering what's going to happen next. Tbh it's first isometric rpg series I played but I can recommend both Wasteland 2 and 3 (didn't play the 1st one yet)
coming from wasteland 2, this third entry is quite frustrating to play
they wanted to make inventory management easier, so they created a shared inventory, awesome right? well this massive single inventory has no sorting options, and the same goes for vendors, with the layout being rather confusing
weapon and armour mods are not removable... so instead of using them and just playing the game, now you get to play the other game of "will i be wasting this mod if i use it"
the control scheme is much less intuitive than wasteland 2's, at least in my experience so far, yet somehow being more complicated
i've also had multiple crashes, bugs that required restarting the game entirely, and other smaller issues within only a few hours of play...
after nearly 80 hours in it's predecessor, i can confidently say i would rather pick that up again than continue to play this sequel
It's been said a million times but if you've played and enjoyed the original fallouts, and wasteland 2, this pretty much takes that formula and improves upon it a lot. I don't often give 5 stars but this definitely deserves it.
At first, I did find the overtly cartoonish art-style to be a little grating, but came to like how it juxtaposes the overt horror of the wasteland with its over the top sense of humour. The story was great, the pacing was good, the combat is fun and overall it was a really enjoyable ride from start to finish. I found myself actually thinking about certain decisions to make in game, trying to understand my decisions from an in-game perspective, and it must be saying something that a simple video game can be that thought provoking. I just found the atmosphere, story, and general hands off character development of my rangers (no cringey by the numbers backstories where I have to sit through boring exposition of some character trying to get me to care about them, ala baldur's gate) , really drew me in.
My only gripe is the pretty much non-existent stealth system, which I feel could have been improved, and sometimes bad pathing from AI triggered combat encounters at the worst of times. Also, it can be a little janky trying, for example, to quickly use sutures to stop companions from dying from bleeding post combat, and unfortunately cost me a follower that I would have liked to take to the end game but couldn't!
But apart from this, I really liked the game and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the setting, or just a fairly long time-sink, that's also enjoyable!
I loved this game from beginning to end.
- Interesting and morally complex main story, where you have to measure stuff in either a materialistic or more idealistic way. Personally, this two views resulted in a big clash in my ranks towards the end with the plot and foes taking a turn I did not expect;
- Interesting side quests that have limited impact on your game world;
- Faction and reputation system and its consequences, just like good old New Vegas;
-Great build variety (reolvers, HMGs, anti-robot hacker, smash everything with a blunt weapon, sniper, shotgun, explosives and so on);
- It's a bit punitive with generalist characters, which is a good thing in my book, so I specialized in 3 skills with each character for a wide range of utility;
- Companions were mostly alright, really liked Lucy Wesson's arc in my run;
- Gorgeous to look at, always wanted a Fallout game in a snowy-area and this really filled that hole.
Have to do other runs, trying different skill setups and going for that more idealistic route in the main story and see how things play out that way. Couldn't recommend it enough!
A bit of a slow starter, took me a couple of hours to actually get into it, but once I got into it, I found it delicious! It's a great improvement on Wasteland 2 (except for the console-like interface, I prefered the old one better, this one's way too clean for an RPG) and it's on par with older Fallout games. All in all, very enjoyable. I played it on Linux via Proton (GloriousEggroll custom) since the Linux version was delayed and I wasn't about to wait on it, but I had no problems.
