Description

Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.

In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?

Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

Good, but not yet great.

It was alright. Feels like it was rushed out the gates yet i backed it from Fig so ive been waiting. So why is it not great? Well for starters its got bugs, oh so many bugs, to name a few; Barely an hour into the game i manage to unintentionally crash the game while making characters leaving me with a 10 man custom made squad when i load back in, some stuck underground. Naturally since they are stuck i cant leave the map so i trim the party down to normal size, but re-adding the 4th premade char in one go keeps crashing the game. Later one of my "Original two" breaks and get borked with some random stat pool, an attribute debt of -7 and no skills so gotta scrap that one. Then there is balance. I finished the game on "Supreme Jerk" and i feel like it was like a "normal" or "easy" compared to oldschool rpgs, i basically used no consumables other than food and injury kits. No drugs, alcohol or any other type of buffing or healing eh cause on supreme jerk armor and health pool is redundant, you get 1 hit regardless and so the tactic brews down to "kill off as many enemies as possible in the first turn" and well, damage scaling gets a bit out of whack with a certain weapon type and build meaning you can quite literally 1hit anything in the game. Yes even armored tanks and bosses. This also means that many other weapons & skills are redundant. Story feels rushed in some places and well crafted in others. Fps is pretty choppy for a isometric game, reckon it could use some optimization. And the loading times. slightly better after patches To end on a good note, some of the story, dialogue and choices are downright brilliant and makes you think that whatever judgement you are going with is a grey shaded palette rather than the "Good" and "Bad" choice. I love the graphical fidelity, the characters and the char creation, the visuals of the weapon and armor is a real joy to behold and huge step-up from its predecessor

Trust the F*ckhead

(if you get the reference for the title you're PEAK my friend ^^) you can have a chainsaw sword!! Coupled with one of the many (and sometime mighty) Power Armor and you can go maimed , slaughter and "Kill the Xenos", because "the Empe...The Rangers protect". There's also some Flamethrower for those who prefer to "Burn the Heretics and Purge the unclean"

An enjoyable sequel to Wasteland 2

I spent about 72 hours with Wasteland 3 over the course of 4 months and I mostly enjoyed my time. It has a few minor annoyances but ultimately is a worthy successor to Wasteland 2. Pros: +Great soundtrack. +Fully voice acted. +Multiple ways to complete most objectives. +Choices matter and affect the story. +Lots of different character builds available. +Tactical battles are both fun and challenging. +Adjustable difficulty (in case the battles get too challenging). +Story is entertaining, if predictable. Cons: -Songs get repetitive as they play on repeat during boss fights. -I experienced several glitches where the combat would get stuck on a friendly or enemy turn but nothing would happen, forcing a reload. It's especially frustrating when it happens during a long and difficult fight. -I had several areas where my framerate dropped substantially. (I'm playing with a Ryzen 7, RTX 3070, and 32GB of RAM.) -The DLC's are a pretty big jump in difficulty over the base game. Especially the Cult of the Holy Detonation. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a distracting jump in the challenge. -The journal that tracks your quests could be better designed. -The final battle is a walk in the park. I finished the fight expecting it to be one of several leading up to a climactic finish, but the next thing that I see is the ending cutscene. My first thought was, "That was it?" -Some of the weapon specs could be described better (or maybe I needed to look harder). -You really need to play Wasteland 2 to fully understand and enjoy this one. (Not really a "con" since it's a good game too.) -Base building/ally recruiting is mostly pointless. Overall, it's a good game and my "cons" are mostly minor. If you enjoyed Wasteland 2, you'll probably enjoy Wasteland 3 as well, for most of the same reasons. If you didn't like Wasteland 2, Wasteland 3 won't change your mind. And if you haven't played Wasteland 2, why are you reading this? Go play it.

Dissapointing

No journal, no way to sort inventory, no way to look at the question you are answering again. No pause outside of combat. If some of your soldiers are poisoned or bleeding, you are going to have to fight timer on that. No way to customise quick bar. Fights are ok, but enemies often have JRPG levels of health. During Steeltown fight some rando raider had more health than a tank they brought. Cheat Engine is your friend with this one. You can even edit unique Steeltown metals.

Fallout: Colorado

Tired of the same desert environments seen in Fallout or Wasteland 2? Then come cool off in snowy Colorado! PROS: - Gripping story, constantly making you second guess your own decisions, the people you side with or against; - A shorter but more FOCUSED campaign than the one in Wasteland 2; - A very well implemented skill-check system; it feels so satisfying overcoming obstacles with the help of the skills you've been constantly honing; - NPC lines are all voice acted, which I greatly appreciate; CONS: - While graphics have been improved since the previous game, Wasteland 3 still LOOKS DATED when compared to most other isometric games; - Performance isn't great either, with loading times taking far longer than they should; My final 2 issues have been fixed by MODS from over at Nexusmods: - "Free Retrain" let me respec my soldiers for free at the base, avoiding the hassle of starting the game over several times; - "Better Equipment Mods" allowed me to remove/reuse weapon and armor mods, a feature that should've been in the game from beginning;
