High Recommend it

To start off I'd like to say I got the game on origin with their origin access (monthly payments and whatnot) and now I've bought it here, -- being that it's on sale so it just makes more sense that I do -- just because of how much I love this game. Also, I saw someone try and claim they beat the game in 15 hours, which is complete nonsense, they clearly didn't even play a majority of the game. I think my first playthrough of the game plugged near 30+ and I really doubt I did every single thing. (It was kind of a quick playthrough to get the general feel of the game and now I'm on my second playthrough.) This is an absolutely excellent game, there is so much in-depth lore and interesting things to see and do in the Tyranny world. Which is one of the main thinks that I personally look for in a game claiming to be an RPG. I want to feel immersed in this world and a part of it, I want to feel emotional if a character dies or something happens and I certainly do when I play this game. I've been playing this game ever since I've got it I'm so into the lore and story-telling. You can tell that a lot of though was put into this and I applaud Obisidan and Paradox for this. -- If I were to compare it to anything else i'd say 40k Warhammer meets Dragon Age. The combat mechanics work very well, not too much to write home about considering it's like most old-school RPGs in that regard, however it never gets boring even though maybe a bit grindy. Your ability to customize your character's traits is pretty well done and thought out, It requires you to actually think where you want to allocate your points, I can often spend quite some time pondering this. You have to make sure what you're doing coincides with your play-style otherwise you're just gonna bite the dust. All-in-all it's a really well done game and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys RPGs and story-based games.

Fantastic

This is a fantastic game. It starts slow, I had a hard time getting into it for the first 5 hours, which is a bummer, but it grew on me big time. The main issue I had at the begginning is the staggering amount of backstory that is thrown at you, it's just too much, but it's done in a truly masterful way, the characters don't flat out tell you everything, things that are implied your character knows (like past events in the world) are explained in tooltips during dialogs, which you're free to ignore if you want, but a great source of contextual lore for those willing to delve deeper into this world. I did not enjoy Pillars of Eternity, I thought I might have lost the taste for isometric RPGs like Baldur's Gate, but this game made me relive my love for the style. The combat is far simpler than Pillars, closer to Baldur's Gate, and so much fun, the magic system is very intriguing and very original (you get to, more or less, design your own spells). The characters are very interesting and have so much depth in their motivations, dialogs are really well done, lore is presented in an interesting fashion, world building is really nice. I'm some 25 hours into the game and I'm just in Act II, I don't understand what have people been playing when they claim this game is short, might not be Skyrim, but this so far is a very enjoyable experience.

Unexpected masterpiece

This game have a marked powerful bloody style, able to draw you in and make you feel at home in no time if you have testicles. What's so good about this game? It comes to my mind the party management and the fresh combat system deepness, you can spend a while trying to figure out what's the best composition of every elements best fitting your play style. It got the most impressive and smooths character interactions since Mass Effect, not as good as Planescape: Torment though, because of the trivals convos about in game infos and slightly lower characters charisma... still it is in my opinion better than Baldur's Gate which was also amazing. My favourite characters were Sirin, i'm kinda infatuated with her even tho her bitchy side and i also like Kill In Shadow. I warn you tho, sadly there is no romance in the game apparently (i checked in the forums and they experienced the same issue). I like it how you can realistically move though the game history crafting your own story but i feel like something is lacking, maybe the fact you need others to guide your paths even if you rebel against the Archons. At least I have this feeling but it could be unmotivated since i followed the path designed by Bleden Mark in my second gameplay.... but i was force to talk with him to unlock a new locations, so i wasn't ever totally free to explore. What's not so good about this game? Not so good there are few things like as i mentioned the limited control over your locations path, the loading screen time, some bugs i encountered and the highest difficulty is kinda too easy especially when you can pull mobs. I also wasn't shocked by the higher reputations rewards and companions reactions (even when they reached 5 stacks of fears they didn't leave me or 5 of of loyalty love or worship me). While there are things the developers could have improved, for instance the game length which is already good and better than Tides Of Numenera but makes you crave for me... i wanted to fight Kyros, then the game price which is in not really inviting after a year by its release. I'm really happy about this game and i liked it way better than Pillars OF Eternity, i don't know how the crew could improve so much and i'm looking to see the same results in Pillars Of Eternity 2, not talking about the graphic which is different but identical in overall pleasantness but the power of the story line. So keep up with the hard work and thanks for making these games.

Excellent RPG worth replaying

I have no idea why this game isnt more popular or why some reviewers think its short? STORY 5/5 Pro: The story is unique(reminds me of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn a bit) and told in a tightly knit manner that just works. I loved the twist in the setting (You start off working for the big bad who rules the world) that adds a touch of "reality" to character and events, making them more relatable. Companions are believable and help add flavor to the world. Just finished my first playthrough at 54 hours and at no point did the game feel like it was dragging on or getting boring. There are no meaningless side quests or large locations to run through for little or no reason. Con: Thanks to Bioware, we have all come to expect companion loyalty missions which could have been done better in Tyranny. ROLEPLAYING 4/5 Pro: This is the first time I've played this style of CRPG in a truly fluid manner. I made decisions as I saw fit without worrying about how the game would react... and I loved it! Characters change behavior based on almost all decisions you make. The world really feels like what you are doing matters and shapes subsequent events. Con: The flexibility of choice-making does hit some bumps, especially as you are locked out of 1 "main path" at the end of Act 1. Further on, a few small encounters force fights based on this main path which conflicts with the flexibility shown in the rest of the game. COMBAT 4/5 Combat is fun and intuitive but has a bit of a learning curve at first. (Especially if you haven't played POE or similar isometric RPGs before) I ran an unarmed self-buff character and enjoyed myself throughout. All combat options seem viable with companions being quite flexible as well. The magic system is intuitive and customizable allowing for various combinations to deal with different situations. Lastly, the game does a great job of making you feel involved and major accomplishments feel immensely rewarding. I would love to see a sequel to expand on the events of the game and am starting my 2nd playthrough with different choices now!

Excellent albeit expensive

I've enjoyed this game immensely ! The lore and worldbuilding are fascinating, and I've taken much pleasure in discovering more of it. It had been quite some time since I last played a game in which I genuinely wanted to know how the story would unfold. The story and setting are quite original, and are actually a great opportunity for those who want to roleplay something other than a good character without feeling like the game is punishing them at every turn for being morally ambiguous. It's been a great roleplaying experience. I also really enjoy the visual choices. I humbly disagree with criticism about the game's alleged too short length : with the extensions my run tallied about 47 hours of play which I believe is a perfectly respectable time. Indeed I'd rather play a short(ish) well-paced captivating game than a Dragon-Age-Inquisition-Go-Fetch-My-Yack type which could have taken at least 2/3 of its current gameplay time to tell the exact same story in an even better way. As for the abrupt story ending, i'm torn. While I'm curious as to where further confrontation could have taken us, I also feel that in order to be satisfyingly resolved it'd have probably needed a whole new game. The real downside, to me, was the fighting gameplay. Tedious at first, one that I had to micromanage, until finally my characters started to snowball and I could speed them up and let them solve everything themselves, only intervening so my main character would cast some spells to level up the related skills. While I really recommend buying both Tales from the Tiers and Bastard's Wound from the start (they made the world feel more complete), I do feel it comes out quite expensive. Thus I'd recommend getting the game during a sale (which will probably still amount to around 40 euros since BW's sales haven't been greater than 10% so far) Thus ends my review that maybe at least someone lost in the last reviews pages will stumble upon and read
