In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won. The Overlord’s merciless armies dominate the face of the world, and its denizens must find their new roles within the war-torn realm... even as discord begins to rumble among the ranks of Kyros’ most powerful Archons.
Players will experience the new world order under Overlord in a reactive role-playing game (RPG), interacting with the populace as a powerful Fatebinder in the Overlord’s forces -- roaming the lands to inspire loyalty or fear as they bring control to the last holdouts of the Tiers.
Branching, unique stories in an original setting: The battle between good and evil has already taken place, and evil stands victorious
Choices matter – make world-altering decisions with far-reaching consequence: As a Fatebinder in the Overlord’s army you wield a vast amount of power in the occupied lands of the Tiers. Will you use that to inspire stability and loyalty, will you be feared, or will you seek your own power?
Challenging, classic RPG combat: Tactical real-time-with-pause combat with new party-driven mechanics and modern presentation
A rich original setting: Not just another “hero’s journey” -- Tyranny turns the archetypal RPG story on its head and allows players to explore a new take on good and evil

Over 100 hours in the game because I got a decent way through the first run and decided on a more "Good" path joined the rebels and the game was much better for my liking. great spell crafting, leveling and storyline , it's so sad there will never be a Tyranny 2, this game was so badly let down by Obsidian in terms of advertising that it's criminal.
The story and the initial gameplay really had potential. Story was set-up to be an epic struggle between insane warlords, a mysterious, all-powerfull god-overlord and insignificant old you. It delivered during act 1. Act 2 was decent and I really looked forward to the conclusion. Then Act 3 happened in a blink and you were left with kind of just uncerimoniously murdering everyone, never as much as seeing the mysterious overlord or their armies. I'm probably not going out on a limb to assume that production of this game was rushed and the developers had a larger game in mind than they had the chance to deliver.
Even still, I liked it for what it was and some of the characters were memorable, gameplay was engaging and I could have definitely played another 50 hours without getting bored of it.
The Bastard's Wound DLC was worth it, if only for the companion quests. The new DLC area was pretty bugged and I couldn't finish the main questline; at least not without replaying the whole thing again, which I very much didn't do because it was rather boring (as of March 2023)
I'm in the second act (~27 hours of gameplay) and getting frustrated trying to finish an area - when most of it is accessible by finding activation items/hidden elements. I keep going over the area to find some hidden switch/toggle only to do a websearch and learn I need something an item from an entirely different region. Are the designers actually expecting players to continually hop back and forth between regions just to open individual doors?
Character creation could also some help. It's fine if you have been through a few playthoughs and know what you want, but it's easy to bad combinations of talents if you are new to it.
The positives are very enjoyable dialog/voice acting and likable graphics.
Play it if you are into RPGs that are not turn-based and you like reading a lot of text. A few nitpicks from me: there are times where the voice-acted parts are not consistent, and not all skills open up a dialouge option.
Story is great and a lot of the quests are influenced majorly by choices you have made in character creation, dialogue, and solutions to previous quests. Combat can get boring in the mid-late game after you have found a full party of a healer, tank, and dps, but at that point you're so close to the end it doesn't really matter.
