Tyranny - Standard Edition

Just another perfect RPG from the good old gang - Avellone, Sawyer etc. You will spend your nights thinking about the decisions you make! I really liked the graphic - it reminds me of the Baldur Gates 1 and 2.

I actually wish there were more stars to give this game. The combat, skills, equipment, interface, etc. are all good, top notch polished stuff. But the story is where this game really shines. It is really, really immersive. I've read bestselling fantasy novels that were less developed. (Yes, it's all text, so if you don't like to read, look elsewhere.) I've done one and half playthroughs so far, and if I had to guess, I'd say I've seen perhaps a third of the possible text. I would recommend Tyranny to anyone.

I would say my experience with Tyranny was much more filling than I expected. When Obisidian and Paradox announced this, I initially dismissed this as some filler CRPG until the next Pillars of Eternity would be released. But I was very wrong. Tyranny is a well thought, introspective game. I must say, double-crossing your allies halfway through the game is something I haven't experienced before. The various directions that you can be taken on are the core of this game. I'm aware Obsidian encourages this, so you can get a fully fledged feel of the game. I intend to replay soon. As for my critique - it's a bit overpriced. It took me around 25 hours to complete all three Acts. While the replayability is high, I often found the Tiers slightly lacking in world building. Perhaps if there were more individuals or side-quests it would be better. Either way, get it in a sale. Perhaps that's what the new DLC is for. The art style is interesting, but not as beautiful as PoE(although Vendrien's Wall and the Oldwalls are very pretty). The ending is a bit more abrupt than I would like. But other than those things, it's a fantastic game.

I just finished my first playthrough of Tyranny and I am exceedingly pleased with the quality of the game. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys story based games with lots of tough decisions to make. The combat is solid and the magic system is fantastic. If you're looking for a challenge in combat, definitely play Path of the Damned w/ Expert mode enabled. I played on Hard w/ Expert mode and by the middle of the game, the fights were fairly trivial. I plan to start a new playthrough on Path of the Damned soon! I don't really have any negative things to call out. I thoroughly enjoyed the game for what it was. Some day I hope to see a game with the story depth and decision making of Tyranny and the combat + vastness of Divinity: Original Sin 2. But, I expect I'll be dreaming on that for some time :)

I enjoyed this game very much - if you like izometric RPGs you will have a good time. Remember - this game is like 50% reading, and it's great if you like it - but you have been warned. Pros: + very detailed and interesting setting + many decistions that actually affect gameplay + the best spells system I have seen in a while (making your own spells is super-rewarding) Cons: - the closer you are to the ending the more tidious and pointless combat becomes (and all that accompanies it - like developing skills or otimizing items). Its very good when you begin and very boring when you end the game. - the weight of past decisions sometimes weigts too much. Who you choose to support in Act 1 closes most options for the rest of the game
