Zeewolf: Yes, and that's a pity. Because I like the current tension in the game, and I think the balance works well. I'm not too keen on playing in peaceful mode, but OTOH I don't really want the standard mode to become harder either.
Peaceful mode has it's downsides too. Such as the difficulty in obtaining string =/

What I'd like to see eventually is perhaps the ability to tailor what monsters spawn in your world and their general difficulty level. If something like that was possible, there'd be something for everyone =)

I'd say 2x wool [placed like wood when making sticks] = string, would be lovely.
There are many downsides, when You get the snowy scenario, You can't have books, though You can uses snowballs as ammo. ;P

But there will be mods when the game gets done. Hopefully a Bluestone will be added. ;)

Yeah I was thinking string should be craftable from wool too. As for snow, etc., that's not going to be a huge problem for new worlds with the introduction of the biomes.

Oh, i read about that, but i didn't know what that was, due to my wonky english, and my wonky memory prevented me from wiki'ng it. ;)
I'll try to farm reed in winter though.

I'll miss my map which gave me a giant mine [all caverns naturally connected, sometimes separated with a block of dirt, with 3 spawners, spent about 7x 64 torches on the whole system. I wonder if it hapens often, i'll miss that.

Also, need to kick my friend in the ass for not buying this game for me back in August as a bd gift.

Haha, yeah. Everything but the creepers. Or maybe some weak ones. Or maybe they go up in flames in daylight too. Whichever. They need some work.

That's what i thought, but then again, with the clock added, it'll be easier.
I don't know if that's how it really works, but for me, creepers near my house appeared only at dawn, when i left my house/mine a bit later, let's say, midday, there was no sign of those.
So i think it's cool, that at dawn, there's a possibility to make a few holes in a creeper to get some gunpowder [though TNT is not all that cool...].

The best thing would be some goggles that the character would craft, for example, special goggles to see minerals or monsters, that would wear over time [though that sounds crappy], but with a bit of caution i was able to avoid/kill all the creepers at dawn. ;)

Well as long as they find some way of reducing their effectiveness, I don't mind. I can see pretty far from my tower, but everywhere is covered with trees now so it's difficult to see exactly what's down there.

Some kind of detector wouldn't be a bad idea.

Personally I want a teleport though.

"RIP THEM ALL DOWN!";)
I plant mine a bit further away, so i can see more from above, and have a fair view when on ground.
I kinda like the creepers way to silently BLOW ME TO PIECES.. But hey, that's me.;)

I want a mapping tool [craftable]! Those x-ray thingies are lacking.
Once my new credit card validates this is my first purchase..

Any hints for a n00b?

Not really, except I'd recommend slowly increaseing the difficulty. And be creative. And go underground. And build.

So um is the difficulty dynamic in game, i.e.e you don't have to change the area to start a new difficulty?

Yeah, just get into the settings menu and change it.

Start out on peaceful. You want to limit the number of problems you have to contend with.

Remember that you have to hold down the mouse button to hack away at things.

You need wood first. But only build one wood pickaxe. That will be enough to chop away at enough stone to get you a stone pickaxe (which actually isn't all that bad, really).

Caves are your best source of rarer block types. Take a lot of mud with you to build mud staircases and dam annoying rivers.

Build a compass as soon as you can. It will tell you where your spawn point is.

Keep in mind that some blocks fall down. Mining the block directly above you can be fatal. Same goes for mining the block at your feet.

Equally, you want to be aware of other potentially problematic adjacent blocks. So sometimes it's wise to clear adjacent blocks before going after the one you want. Generally you've got a better chance of grabbing a block as it falls if it is at head height when you're mining it.

If you're mining a block you want (particularly obsidian), make sure there are no lava pits or chasms behind it for it to fly off into. Again, mud is good for this. You can use mud to dam lava too.

Start a new game several times first. Get one you like the look of. Personally I like mountainous ones as I can carve my towers into them and clifftop mud shacks make good initial lookout points on less peaceful modes.

If you block the entry point to rivers you kill them entirely. This might not be desirable in some circumstances.

Yeah, maybe the trees have to go. Which is a shame as the area is quite pretty at the moment (see attached).

Well some people are managing to import objects into the game. Such as that scale Enterprise model. So some kind of official editor surely should be possible.

Reminds me of [see attached] ;P
No wonder some handless green guys are running around. ;)

I was thinking of a mapping tool, as in, a craftable object that makes a map of your realm. Though it would be tricky to make a 2d map of 3d space, i guess there are ways.
