Zchinque: By the way, anyone know of a good (free) program that can be used for testing out/blueprinting Minecraft constructions? I kinda want to 3D-ify Bowser's head from the Super Mario World map, but doing it in Minecraft would take too long, as I would surely mess it up a bunch of times before getting it any good.
Not sure how good you are at 3d computer modelling but I came across this when wondering how people make some of the really large complex builds.

It will do exactly what your after and you still have to actually build it yourself but it lays down a layer by layer guide.

I think this is perfect for you :)

I didn't try it, though, so I hope it works
kudos to you, runehamster! I'm finally starting to get the gist of the game. It might not be my genre per se, but if I ever get into a creative mood, I might try to build something in minecraft. it seems so silly though that no'one has thought of this game concept before? or have they?

I'm glad to hear it! Minecraft's not the most readily accessible game; I think I died three or four times when I was first trying to learn to play. I'm only just now getting to the point where the stuff I build has form as well as function.

Supposedly the game's idea was borrowed from a much more simplistic game called 'Infiniminer'. But no, other than that, the closest you can get is Lego bricks :D

Holy shit. I don't know what's more impressive. The fact that Japan looks set to do some truly epic things with Minecraft Or the fact that Japan might now be forced to acknowledge that there is indeed something known to the rest of the world as PC gaming.

I'm sure they probably hacked it to play it on there wii's and PS3. No need to worry about that.
That Castle is sweet. And they've managed to do this in the 128 height limit?

/me is now playing the "guess which mods are not compatible" game, on medium difficulty [around 10 mods]
Did you guys see this?

Awesome!

I need to try something... 100 times simpler, but similar.
Recently started a texture pack, which I based on Ultima (mostly U6 and U7).

Still needs work on various bits, but it's mostly completed.

It's being hosted over at Ultima Aiera.

[edit]

Standard MineCraft texture size (16x16)
Made for Minecraft Beta 1.2_01

Oh! This is great news!:)
Since tips are appreciated:
-Specify the texture pack size [i understand it's in the default 16x16]
-Specify for which version of MC it is [for updates sake, like dyed wool]
Wildgrass would be nice later on.. ;)
That's about it, when it comes to my whining, thanks for the pack, i'll check it our!:)

Wildgrass?

I haven't changed the grass texture yet, but not sure what you mean...

Wildgrass is a popular mod, adding varied heaps of grass on the grassy dirt texture, looks niceish. As fas as i know, it needs some help from the texture pack, but I MAY BE TOTALLY WRONG. My Painterly seems to dislike wildgrass.;/

Ahh... I see.

Unfortunately, my intention is for the texture pack to be usable without requiring other mods and such, I wanted to keep things as simple as possible (besides, it's my first!).

Oh and the version being hosted is a bit older than my current one, by next week I will have changed a fair few things (if I have the time!). By version 2 of the pack I'm hoping to have all the armour finished.

I should also mention that Ultima Aiera is also hosting two of my player skins (U5 and U6 Avatars).
