HypersomniacLive: @Lifthrasil
1. Does one have to have played the game?
2. Does having played the game give one any "advantage" over those that haven't or at least help?
No on both questions. You don't have to know the game. It just helps in understanding the flavour. I'm not even sticking completely to the canon of the game and all you need to know can be taking from the opening post.

To be on the safe side a short overview of knowledge from the game(s): the Zone is an area around Chernobyl in which paranormal things happen. A side effect of these Anomalies is the creation of so-called artifacts. Items with powers beyond current scientific understanding. And you've found the strongest one ever discovered. 'Clear Sky' was a faction in one of the games, dedicated to understanding the Zone. There are other factions in the game: Freedom, Duty, Bandits, Loners, who all have their own agendas. But I've chosen Clear Sky as 'town' for this game.
And then there is a mystical Monolith rumored to be hidden deep in the Nuclear Power Plant and there are some religious fanatics revering that Monolith. They are the only humans in the game, who are not killed or zombified by the emissions and by the Brain Scorcher and they are hostile to every other faction in the game. That's why I wrote in the opening post, that the fact that someone apparently was not knocked out during the last emission leads to the conclusion, that someone (or several someones) is among you, who is immune against the Emission - and that immunity has up to now only be seen in Monolith followers.

adaliabooks: These are good points that I'd be interested in hearing the answer to. Particularly in light of dedo's post saying his guess was based on knowledge of the game...

Having never played the series and knowing little more than that it is set in and around Chernobyl I'd hate to be at a disadvantage...
Well, I got the games not long ago, but haven't played them yet; even if I started now, I'm sure the mafia game would be over before I finished even the first one of the series. :-)

I've been wondering about this for a couple of days now, and dedoporno's comment brought the questions to mind again.

Thanks to both Lifthrasil and yogsloth for the prompt replies.

If this game goes with the same pace as the last one you should be able to complete all three games before night 4 :D

@Lift, thanks for the summary. I was trying to remember what was the name of the anomaly byproducts - artifacts.

Anyway, in order to put a stop to the question "why, oh why, would I believe the powers may come and go" I ask everyone who feel so baffled to re-read the OP. Actually, let me make it even easier.
avatar
Lifthrasil: Additionally, some of you feel, that they have been changed by the last emission. They feel new powers coursing through their veins. But you also feel, that such powers come at a price and, with the unsteady nature of the Zone, may not be there to stay. The next emission might change everything and who knows what tomorrow will bring?
The text I bolded for you practically says it. So, do we continue doing this?
avatar
HypersomniacLive: .............<snip>..............

avatar
dedoporno: From the OP I'm more inclined to suspect that abilities may shift overnight from one player to another, or just appear/disappear. Maybe from a set pool of possible powers.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: From the OP? Inclined? And here I was thinking that role PMs wouldn't leave room for speculations about this...

..........<snip>................
Agreed. My role PM is quite clear about what I can do regarding emissions and artifacts.

avatar
dedoporno: So shut up about game mechanics, as well? That's fine by me. What do you suggest we do instead?
avatar
adaliabooks: Honestly? I haven't a clue. First day is really tough, you have no info to go on and are basically waiting and hoping for someone to make a slip.

But I'm not sure there is any way of making people slip up...
Day One is challenging and it's not always a matter of a slip up. Usually a Day One lynch is a townie simply because of the number of town versus scum. So scum can usually sit back and let town violence do their job for them.

Now about that list of suspects...

1) RWarehall - Power lurking

2) Robbeasy - Almost Power lurking except he puts a vote down. I realize he's out of town, but his post #47 reeks of unconcern.

3) trentonlf - This is really just to have a third, although his defense of dedoporno and subsequent squelching in post #94 gives me something to ponder.
Just to clarify I was not defending dedoporno, but disagreeing with your statemnet of dedo trying to "resort to fear mongering". When Lift was discussing the setup of the game he clearly states that the day cycle will be unknown and could end at any time. All dedo did was remind us of that fact.

As to me squelching talk about roles I stand by my statement that the talk had already gone to far. When it is stated by someone that they are unsure if this is a role madness game or not that is clearly saying "I am Town with a power role" or "I am scum hoping to get others to talk about roles", and neither benefits town. So yes the talk about roles has gone far enough.

My list:

1) ddickinson - Her overall lack of posts and interest thus far

2) Adaliabooks - I did not like the role madness post he made

3) Hijack - Just because he is due to be scum eventually
I must apologize. With how busy work has been and how lovely GOGs alerts are. I missed a pm from ddickinson two days ago. That she was going to be absent from the game due to a family emergency. I have pmed Lifthrasil to let him know and I figured I should post in here to let everyone know that she is MIA because she is dealing with family stuff. She said she understands if Liff needs to replace her.
I've been trying (and failing) to reply to this thread for almost an hour.

@HypersomniacLive - your assertion in post #102 regarding third party is an unsafe assumption.

@trentonlf - your reply is noted. Also YIKES!! I missed ddickinson. She might make a better third than you.

@Sage103082 - Thanks for the heads up. Noting she "contacted" you instead of moderator.
I think CSPVG doesn't appreciate me using his playstyle. ;_;

CSPVG: 2) HijacK; and
Oh, really? And what is this based on? It only looks like sugar sprinkled BS to me.

avatar
trentonlf: 3) Hijack - Just because he is due to be scum eventually
Another sugar sprinkle BS based suspicion.

So let me get this straight. Flub who has been town for so many straight games (was he ever actually scum or anything else?) gets a free pass, but you pick me out of everybody based on a totally nonsensical and unimplementable point? Automated scum points for you.

Who said flub, or anyone for that matter, gets a free pass. All your posts up till now have been RVS style posts (meaningless as far as the game goes), as has most everyones. So almost any 3 names can be made into a list at this point. All the list if for is to elicit a response from people. Your response seems overly defensive.

HijacK: ............Flub who has been town .........
Correction...I'm always town, goober.

Your post. A more acute case is ignored in favor of a lesser one.

My posts have been RVS? Really? Is that so? How about we pile them all up and compare to everyone else's. I can even give thorough explanations as they are not in fact RVS.

When have they been not when the reasons people bring are utter nonsense?

1. Flub has been mafia before, and it means little either way. As I said the list is just to get a response out of people and the reason I gave to put your name on the list was as good as any.
2. I did not say only yours, I said "as has most everyones", trying to make it seem as if I meant only you is misleading
3. You are still being overly defensive

trentonlf: 3. You are still being overly defensive
And I always will. An impenetrable defense is what I like to call it.

dedoporno: @Lift, thanks for the summary. I was trying to remember what was the name of the anomaly byproducts - artifacts.
So you read neither the OP, nor your PM? Vote dedoporno.
