dedoporno: Oh darn, I just stood up for my "scumbuddy".
I wasn't even looking for it. I was looking for scum building a false consensus via this magic "town tell" that a scum player or two "found" and managed to convince a townie or two to see something that wasn't there as well. Instead I found someone who, without an edit, managed to "edit" his post for something he ostensibly hadn't seen yet.

Oddly enough, it also happened to directly reference you.

I really understand. To actually believe some people refresh the topic prior to posting is preposterous.
Sage: I meant to state that I had read all of the posts, not just a few of them. Looking back at my post, I can only say that I apologise. It was a bit of a mess, honestly. I composed it in between two (rather long) stints of playing Europa Universalis IV, so my mind was elsewhere.

HijacK: A valid argument against my 'gut reactions'. However, I must say that I never argued that it was a particularly good, scientific, or logical way to go about things. It is merely the way that seems to work best for me, even though these 'feelings' cannot be used as evidence to build a case, and I stand by it.

In general: This game has become bizarrely acrimonious, and become so rather quickly. To those in the "I don't get it camp," I'm in agreement with you. I just don't see it either.

I've trawled through the whole thread, looked at all of Bookwyrm's posts, and still cannot see it. Perhaps I just need to look a bit harder. I'd like to ask for a hint, but I know that this would be seen as fishing of some sort. Thus, I shan't ask for hint.

Lastly, and this goes back to my 'feelings' thing, dedo seems very off to me this game. Never before have I seen him so sarcastic, aggressive (in a play-style sense), and downright angry seeming. There's something amiss here.
Two minor points:

1) I meant to type,'To those in the "I don't get it" camp';
2) Thus, I shan't ask for a hint.

That is all.

Ixamyakxim: Greetings, STALKERs. I am new to the Zone.
Heyas. Read up and vote for someone; this game need more votes. (I would love it if everyone voted for their scummiest read ASAP)
...
Oh, got a few more posts down, and you voted. I am positively giddy!

dedoporno: Wagon? You know I was the first player to vote for trent, right?
Not the type of wagon I was talking about, Jumpy McJumppyants. It is a turn of phrase in English (although, I did use it in a nonstandard way).

This is totally correct (no sarcasm here). I didn't plan for this in advance but flub and krypsyn kind of got it out of me. At one point I had to revise and lighten it up a bit, since I got afraid it may sound too harsh and offend trent. The angry vibe is pretty much because I didn't like how the game started. "Shut up about everything, but don't lurk and try to scum hunt, but don't place votes without reasoning, but don't ask people stuff because fishing, etc.". At one point I was like "wtf are we supposed to do then?!" I'm usually a pretty sarcastic guy IRL (usually in a mild and funny way) but try to not behave like this in such games, since I don't really want to offend someone.

Got it.

By the way, @Ix, I just didn't refresh the thread before replying to CSPVG and I didn't see Kypsyn's post in order to add a reply to it as well. Because that is something no one does.

Ah, so that's what this is about. Noticed it when I was backtracking, wasn't sure if she was getting a power, night had fallen or what. Looks like setup for a potential modkill.

I find it interesting that the first thing that came to you thought when reading Lifthrasil's post was that she may be getting a power. Could you tell us why you thought that to be the case?

avatar
dedoporno: Oh my! I have been waiting for this for so long now. I just didn't expect for it to come from trent.

If I may ask, who did you expect it would be and why?

The fact that I didn't expect a specific person to be the one doesn't necessarily mean I expected a specific one instead. I already made a list, so the people in it would have been a better start, I guess.

What can I say, I like to keep things lively! Keeps things interesting here in the Zone. That, and the wild mutant dogs. And the guys with guns. Oh, and those things with a tube on their head. Can't forget those!

Bookwyrm627: I did not say that lurking meant scum. I said that, and I quote, "Lacking any other leads, selecting a lurker to vote for would be decent play." I've read, multiple times, that lurking can and is used by scum to avoid making slips: conversation and explanations help town. Did you miss where Krypsyn got some suspicion for not communicating reasons? Read what I say, not just what you want to think I said.
Yeah, no. This doesn't fly with me. That is your conclusion to the statements you came up with, but you conveniently forget that right before this conclusion you have in parentheses the Lynch all lukers policy. Furthermore the sheer logic of lynching the least "active" player, whatever the hell that means, is purely crap. I can post 20 times a day. If 80% of the time it's filler garbage that is carefully worded to not appear suspicious I basically help the town maybe less than a luker whose posts are quality. Let me say it again, your idea is simply bad.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: My bad. I'd already put together 5 theories to pick from after saying that I don't know why Dedo is so convinced. Next time I'll try to figure out your next guess and add that too. Then figure out the theory you'd propose after that, and add that to the list. Repeat ad nauseam, until I've got a wall of text even more massive than those I've already been outputting. It couldn't be that I just stopped trying to come up with even more possibilities for something I didn't know.
Drop the WIFOM, will you?
avatar
RWarehall: To be clear, I, presumably we, believe this town tell to only be recognizable by town. As such, by taking more time and allowing other town to acknowledge recognition, we gain confirmed town. Once revealed, anyone, even scum, can claim "Oh I saw that". So once revealed, the additional benefit ends. Is that too hard to understand?
Oh, really? Is that so? In a game where nothing is certain you are sure you can confirm town by that?

Ixamyakxim: *in best fake forum Russian accent*
No. Just no.

HypersomniacLive: I find it interesting that the first thing that came to you thought when reading Lifthrasil's post was that she may be getting a power. Could you tell us why you thought that to be the case?
I saw I had several pages to browse since last time I checked in, and I clicked past one or two of them and saw story from Lift at the top of the page. I wanted to catch up starting from where I was so that later posts wouldn't be confused by earlier posts (I wanted to establish context), but I did scan pieces of this one because it stood out and was at the top of the page. I didn't read it fully at the time because I wanted to see what else had happened first; I saw something about Ddickinson being knocked out. You may recall the previous discussion about powers possibly shifting around and the reference in the OP to how powers might not stay with someone.

By this point, I honestly can't tell you which of the thoughts that rolled through my head at the time was first, as several speculation scenarios occurred to me while I went hunting for the last page where I'd read posts. As far as typing, the power shift scenario simply happened to be typed first. Regardless of whether or not you believe me, there is nothing significant about the order of that list of thoughts.

Yes, that is MY conclusion after using the preceding steps of logic that I listed. I listed the common name of the general policy/thought process. Since I need to wait 10 minutes anyway, I'll go dig up some links while I'm at it.

Here's the Administration thread linked from the OP.

Here's a link from the first post of the Administration thread, and the link is titled "A Beginner's Guide to Being Awesome At Mafia". Oddly enough, being a new player (or do you want to contest that too?), I decided to read it.

And here's a direct link to the section in the Beginner's Guide that talks about posting versus not posting. Guess which action is stated to lean more towards town?

And oh, hey! Here's a link to a post that I made that says, and I quote, "I guess alternatively we could start looking at lynching the player with the least number of posts (or helpful posts); that should apply some pressure to speak up, but it could very easily be counter productive".

Interesting. In post 212, you even quote the section where I say that. But now you seem to have forgotten how I not only suggested least number of posts as an option, but least number of helpful posts, or that I stated that trying that method at all "could very easily be counter productive".

First you complain about my missing a theory, and then you complain when I post a reason for why I didn't try to come up with more theories?

Congratulations, Hijack, you just passed Trent on my personal list of probable scum, straight on into a serious vote. Vote Hijack.

Feel free to escort my logic to a back alley and go all Jack the Ripper on it; people (including me) can learn from it when holes are punched in it. Trying to misrepresent what I'm saying and attacking that? That just makes you look scummy.

Oh boy, if you think some guides are your way to success in this mafia forum group, you've got a lot to learn.

Oh, but I didn't misinterpret anything. That is your downfall. I find your username very ironic. Bookwyrm. Seeing as you vehemently follow some guides over others with experience that only destroys your credo in front of me. You're literally nothing, but this nothing awarded you the amazing honor of being in my top 3 scum suspects.
