adaliabooks: I'm just going to put those two posts together... so you mock me (and/or Twilight) for saying discussing the game mechanics might give scum knowledge of roles etc. and then tell Hyper you don't want to discuss roles and powers in case sensitive information is disclosed?
Just Twilight, since he voted on me for mentioning game mechanics. Interesting thing to note is that I just shared an opinion without asking anyone else for theirs, yet I got the vote for "discussing". I don't appreciate his reasoning, but since we are in RVS I won't bite back yet, just make sassy remarks for now.

From my point of view game mechanics are very different than personally identifiable data and we'll have to go there sooner or later. Anyway, actual roles discussion (as in what some might be and who might have one) is what I don't want to discuss with HSL or anyone else. Would you like to press the matter further?

Agreed.

But you posted this in post 69:

avatar
dedoporno: From the OP I'm more inclined to suspect that abilities may shift overnight from one player to another, or just appear/disappear. Maybe from a set pool of possible powers.
Talking about various points in the set-up to determine what we might be up against is one thing, but I don't really want to talk about potential abilities. That is an easy way for scum to glean information. I figure much more will be clearer on all counts after at least one Night has gone by, and then we will be in a better position to possibly revisit such discussions.

dedoporno: Would you like to press the matter further?
Nope. I would like to hear from some of our more silent players though. How do they weigh in on this discussion?

I don't want to press the matter at all. I just think we disagree on what constitutes role discussion, to me discussing the mechanics is tantamount to discussing who has or hasn't got a role. Right now we don't know whether we are looking at Role Madness or not, if it's role madness; fair enough everyone has a role and an inclining of how roles in general might work. If it's not role madness than only people with roles are likely to have authoritative information beyond what has been mentioned in the OP. So discussing the mechanics is, intentionally or not, tantamount to role fishing.

Unlike Twilight I don't really see any of this as reason to place a vote (other than possibly on him for jumping in with a vote so quickly)
This discussion of possible roles or not has already gone too far. Each game the same thing happens, someone claims early on and then a mass claim follows shortly thereafter. I would hope we can refrain from revealing anything except in a situation where it can't be helped.

Discussing the setup of the game as far as what we face is fine, but no role talking or revealing. Any talk of roles or hinting at one is what the scum want.

Neither do I. I only shared a possible way the OP may be read. Nothing more. I never asked whether someone has a role, ability or whatever, nor anything in that direction. This exactly why I said I prefer not to discuss things further with HSL, since I see a possibility of things heading there.

Same applies as a reply to books' #93.

My question "what then?" still stands. Generic answers as "we find scum and lynch them", although may seem like the right and Townie thing to say, are useless. Pretty much every game-related topic seems to be a taboo, even though I'm sure some of the people behind the shushing are just trying to look good. Not talking / lurking is equally frowned upon. What then?

Right now it's difficult to say what is the best route to take. We have no information to go in except for a few posts of nonsense. What I hope we see is more people posting and interacting as lurking just means you are disinterested or hiding and neither is beneficial to town.

Bookwyrm627: 2) Not complaining (yet), but why Sage?
My guess is since I made him listen to whine and rant about my bad day he decided to repay me in the first way he would find.
Scum will take any and all information that is dropped and use it if they can. I think we need to see what is going on and how things are going to work before we start just handing information over for anyone to use.

As part of the Lurkers' Worldwide, I object strongly, sir.

Before I attend to anything else, I should Unvote: HijacK.

Well, this isn't the way I would have liked us to come out of RVS, but I guess we don't really get to choose. At this stage, discussions about the mechanics of the game are fairly pointless. All we have to go on at the moment are the number of players and the flavour. The former gives us only scant information and the latter, while fun, is usually not too revealing until later on (or never, if the moderator does not give a fig about such material*).

Having said this, I do find the suggestion that we may have powers that shift from night to night quite interesting. I don't think this is true, but it seems an oddly specific suggestion. What led you lot to believe this may be the case?

Furthermore, if we aren't to attend to these questions, dedo is right in saying that we should answer the question,"What should we talk about then?" I agree with him that saying,"Hunt scum, of course." is a little too vague, and offers no real course of action.

I, at this point, suggest that we list our three scummiest players. Yes, I know that this is still very early on in the game. I am not, however, requesting that you all give detail explanations as to why, merely that you give us a gut reaction to the situation.

My top three scummiest players are:

1) Robbeasy (sorry Rob, you're always that guy for me);
2) HijacK; and
3) RWarehall.

P.S. Am I just dreaming, or was DarkoD13 in this game at some point?

*I am not suggesting this is the case in this game.
Correction: In the above post it should be,"...that you all give detailed explanations as to why, merely that you give us a gut reaction to the situation. " and not,"...that you all give detail explanations as to why, merely that you give us a gut reaction to the situation."

How do you suggest we do that? "We need to do something" is equally helpful as ".....................................................".

So, don't discuss, but then discuss :D? I won't answer your question unless you take the responsibility of bringing the topic up and pushing it further. In order not to leave you entirely hanging, let's say it's an educated guess based on a bunch of bits and pieces, including being familiar with the actual S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.

What should this list be based on? What is your list based on? Right now this is no different than any RVS vote, especially without giving any reason at all.

dedoporno: No need for clarification, at least on my side. I suggest we leave that conversation for another time, though. We may end up disclosing sensitive information. We can get back to it at a later stage.
I'm not sure we're having the same conversation. My point is that if anyone is unclear or uncertain about anything in their role PM, they can always ask our mod for clarification, instead of speculating here.

We can leave that conversation for another time.
Some of you are immune, like the Monolith scum is. Some of you have been secretly converted and want to bring the heart back to the Monolith! Some of you want to prevent you from leaving the Zone and for now they have succeeded.
Sounds like we have a scum team, and possibly a couple of third-party players that are anti-town (that's in relation to flubbucket's post #54).

@Lifthrasil
1. Does one have to have played the game?
2. Does having played the game give one any "advantage" over those that haven't or at least help?

These are good points that I'd be interested in hearing the answer to. Particularly in light of dedo's post saying his guess was based on knowledge of the game...

Having never played the series and knowing little more than that it is set in and around Chernobyl I'd hate to be at a disadvantage...

It's off-time in Germany, so I can chip in here - I've never played any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. I feel confident you don't need any experience with those games to understand this one. Everyone is one equal footing regardless of familiarity with the original storyline of the games.
