Now would be a good opportunity for GOG to open their doors "just a little wider" to the indie community, rather than letting more of the market go to Steam.

Thank you indeed. Here's something to note for future. Take the same attitude towards that specific joke and apply it to EVERYTHING I type. You probably won't argue with me ever again... or if you do it'll end up like a Monty Python sketch.

All depends on why they rejected them. While I suspect that GOG in some cases did have some bizarre concerns about "not being a good match", I have a feeling that others still may have been trying to encourage GOG to include Steam keys or allow "DRM-lite".
No, no, no and NO!
It was specifically the Early Access concept that proved to be Desura's downfall, with many games not being completed and the storefront ultimately turning into a graveyard of such games. Even Steam is struggling with this concept, and as the wider community becomes acutely aware of the dangers involved in such endeavours, the willingness to invest is greatly diminished.
In short, no Earty Access without a contractual commitment to release a full and working product at the end of it and guaranteed refunds should the project not reach completion. And no developer will agree to that.

pimpmonkey2382.313: I also think we should be rid of the voting system and go with a simple post count.
While I agree that the rep system is a bad joke, I'm not entirely sure that getting rid of it is a great idea either. It might not make a lot of difference to you and me, and it might make the fuckwits among us feel big and mighty for having clicked on that little red button, but there are a number of immature twits among our ranks who place value in the size of their e-peen, and the only thing keeping them in check is the threat of seeing "low rated" next to their post.
If we dispensed with it, we may find that active moderation suddenly becomes a necessity. Personally, I find the rep system is the lesser evil in this case.

Thanks for the heads up about this. The question is what to do now. I have some games on Desura and a lot of keys for it which I haven't activated. The question is whether it's worth saving these games. I also have some Steam keys I can get from Indie Royale, and I guess it's time to at least get them and write them down somewhere.
(Yeah, that's what I do, buy bundles and never even look at them, never download or activate any games.)

To be honest, this is why DRM-free is so damned important. (Yeah, that's what I do, buy bundles and never even look at them, never download or activate any games.)
The likely imminent demise of Desura may be fairly low profile, but it'll still be the biggest failure in the PC digital distribution market to date, and more will follow. The thing about Desura though is that it had no inherent DRM system - either you had Steam keys, which means you can migrate the game to Steam for the time being, or they were DRM-free, in which case you can download them for long-term storage.
Eventually it'll hit a platform with an inherent DRM system like Steam, UPlay or Origin, not necessarily through bankruptcy, but perhaps through changed priorities. EA may suddenly decide they no longer want to support PC, or Ubisoft may suddenly decide that DRM-free is the future and discontinue the UPlay service (I wish!).
With DRM-free platforms, at least you have some measure of control over retaining your games. You can download them and assume responsibility for keeping your own backups. If a DRM'd platform goes bye-bye, chances are that the games will be unrecoverable, at least without "external assistance" in the form of DRM circumvention tools.
