Easy to fly and get into, but rather lacklustre overall. Only Eastern Europe scenery, no varied world locations like in many other Microprose sims. Poor variety of unit types in the game. Graphics rather basic / ugly looking in some respects. Is this the same graphics engine used in M1 Tank Platoon 2 I ask myself! Once again though, GOG seem to be only hosting the weakest fare from Microprose's old catalogs! The UI is terrible also! Not much really positive to say about it, except it has a mission editor, that always gets a thumbs up from me!

In this GOG review climate of "good reviews only cronyism, shillism and fanboism posrepped to buggery by said giant clique of "cronies, shills and fanbois" there is little point me giving a critical review. It will only be negrepped by those shits. But I will have my say and up yours to anyone negrepping it. This is just too old. The VGA graphics are terrible. It's difficult enough to identify what it is right in your gunsights on much higher res sims such as IL2 1946 (when info labels are turned off), but on this blocky mess it is impossible. Scenery is either a dire mush of green pixels or blue pixels, depending on whether you are over land or water. It is also very slow with barely 5FPS. Good job this was just 60p or so. In fact just buy IL2 1946 instead, that has everything 1942 has - except for the "carrier battle" mode, and another 100x more besides. You won't miss "carrier battles" as the omniscient cheating enemy AI renders it unplayably difficult and unfair.

After the debacles of the robbery level overpriced Command : Modern Air and Naval Operations, and the treatment I got from both the developers and their army of shills over on Steam, and the way they frauded customers over DLCs for Panzercorps I, I expect nothing but this kind of crookery from this company. And what's this? Another overpriced DLC with small content that should have been in the base game from the git go. I wouldn't touch any of their products with a ten foot shitty stick.

To the folks who already reviewed this expressing distaste at the way the developer treats customers, well, I am not suprised. After the debales of the robbery level overpriced Command : Modern Air and Naval Operations, and the treatment I got from both the developers and their army of shills over on Steam, and the way they frauded customers over DLCs for Panzercorps I, I expect nothing but this kind of crookery from this company. SE1 is just so basic it isn't even worth acknowledgment. And it came two years after Master of Orion 1 was released..... :/ SE2 has a bit more too it, and has the feel of an ancient Windows 3.1 game! Ah, memories. But it's still extremely basic, way behind that standards of it's 1995 release date. SE3 gameplay is starting to get more like SE4 in complexity, but graphics and sounds are still 1990-esque Win 3.1 style basic - and it's AI seems to consist of just "all computer players attack the human player mercilessly". SE4 is good, even if a little "weak" graphically. I already had SE4 Deluxe Edition here on GoG though. Existing SE4 owners get a discount on this bundle too. SE5 is also good, but marred by a lot of bugs, and I mean a LOT. At least it works, unlike the Steam version, that is just a broken pile of shit! So, really it's only IV and V that this bundle is worth buying for. And at £15 fullprice, that is way, way, WAY too much. Wait for a sale, it can come up on a very strong offer. I got it for £2.29 for example.

the biggest 5-star review hysteria madness in the whole of GoG! The game is absolutely awful, it's just another necro-developer raising the foulest of undead out of the abandonware graveyard. Eek. Did he just say "abandonware". Eek. EEK. EEEEEEK! So let's have a head count of all you fanbois, shills and other degenerates....... you "no" which button to press below this review.

I never was impressed with the Quake series even back when they were new. In 2002 (as it says on the store page) this would have seemed out of date even then. Nevermind 21 years later. The gfx are butt ugly and so dull and low poly, and the gameplay is tedious run and gun fps with boring, dull, tedious maze like maps. Sounds are just the odd "oooh" "aaah", like some under the counter nasty gay porn VHS tape. No music whatsoever. After quarter of an hour you will be thinking "what is the point of persevering with this?". I only gave it two stars because it knows it's actually monetary value. ZERO. It's free! So you have nothing to lose and may as well try it.

Finger twistingly, hand breakingly awful controls. And as is often a trend these days, NOT remappable. This really is another console port, and intended for console controllers. PC mouse, keyboard and joystick users can go fuck themselves seems to be common anti-gamer attitude from the lazy developers of today. Well, I never really thought much of the original Amiga 500 version in '93! Despite the hype back then. Just another combat platformer. I want to ask "Wiewioor" how much he was paid for that 5-star review as well!
