Space Empires Complete Pack is a compilation of the five installments in the Space Empires strategy game series.

Space Empires I
The first chapter of the Space Empires series. A classic galactic conquest and turn-based strategy video game where you are the leader of a race of intelligent beings building large spaceships for interplanetary and interstellar travel through warp points between star systems.
The first Space Empires game was created by Aaron Hall in 1993 as a pet project based on his love for other space strategy games. After playing around with that game, Aaron decided to add features and make this prototype a bit more playable. After a year of work, the game was interesting enough that with a little more work, it could be public worthy. In 1995, Aaron Hall formed the company known as “Malfador Machinations” to release the game Space Empires II.

Space Empires II
Explore the galaxy, discover and colonize new planets to acquire enough resources. Design your ships, choosing from different hulls, weapons, shields, and several devices. Once you advance with technologies, new systems will be available, and you will have to update your designs.

Space Empires III
The third game within the Space Empires series brings the dawn of a new age of exploration. Your race keeps running through the fabric of space and moves to other solar systems beyond your own.

Space Empires IV Deluxe
Take up the mantle of command as Galactic Emperor. It is up to you to discover new planets ripe for colonization, encourage scientific discovery, and quell the occasional rebellion. Rest assured that you will not only be challenged from within as you’ll have the galaxy’s other inhabitants to compete with for territory and profit. Some will want to wage only war while others will be more than willing to negotiate. As a strong leader, you’ll have to achieve victory or wave the white flag and prepare your surrender to enemies whose plans are more cunning than your own!

Space Empires IV Deluxe is a grand strategy title in the space 4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) genre. The Space Empires Deluxe Edition adds all the latest tweaks and upgrades to Space Empires IV. You can research technology, design new ships, wage war on a tactical level, put down rebellions, meet and greet new species, and much more. Additionally, all the level and campaign design tools are included; allowing anyone to design and create whatever their heart desires.

Space Empires V
The latest edition in the Space Empires series. This new chapter completely updates the UI and takes the player into a real-time rendered 3D universe. Watch space battles played out in glorious detail and realistic effects. Expand, Explore, Exploit, and Exterminate in a huge living breathing galaxy. New features abound with political alliances between multiple empires, a top-down ship design system, a hexagonal movement grid, and many more. Due to player demand, the game is completely 'moddable' and even adds a scriptable AI system to the mix. Space Empires V boldly takes the next step in the genre of space strategy.

Finally Space Empires 5!

To begin with, yes this does work on Win10. You have to adjust the settings for SE5 though. You start the game it will pop up a menu. Instead of hitting play go to settings. Change the video adapter, the default option will have symbols and stuff. Choose the option below that should have the name of your GPU on it. That will run the game in a window. Choose a resolution if you want. Save that, start the game, and it will run without the massive mouse lag. Some people may need to change a few more settings but this was all I needed to get it working. Yes it is windowed instead of fullscreen but it works! SE4 and SE5 are still the best 4x games on the market today. Everything else has too much fluff or makes major mistakes like focusing on heroes or inventing extra micromanagement. The design of these games allowed for easy modification with modular races and shipsets, techs etc. The gameplay has no chintzy mechanics, everything is straightforward yet the complexity is still there to keep you in your seat for hours. Ship building is fantastic considering when it was made. There are consequences to making the wrong choices, like focusing on politics or terraforming techs instead of better weapons and defense when in a hot war with a close neighbor. You can defend yourself with minefields effectively unless the AI starts putting minesweepers on every ship. Or go with grand fleet unless it gets spread thin from too many wars. Or lots of defense platforms on every planet unless the enemy has more resources and overwhelms your turtle strategy. There is always a counter. SE5 lets you research a tech as much as you want instead of just a few levels like SE4. In SE5 can have super-refined railguns that can compete with higher-tech lasers etc. but research cost goes up in time. SE4 some techs get overshadowed, SE5 progressive teching prevents some of that. I do think GOG or whoever is cashing the royalty checks from sales should fix the full-screen mouse lag

Space Empires 5 has a lot to play with

Have not played earlier games, but Space Empires 5 is one of my favorite space 4X. What's good about it is how much features it provides. There are a lot of stuff which commonly appear in space 4X like being able to design your own ships, controlled real-time battles, construction of colonies and terraforming planets, but a lot of other games I have experience with usually focus on a single aspect, like combat, and simplify others. Space Empires has the most overall depth of general gameplay aspects: - on game start you can fully customize your race - name, image, description, planet type, traits, government, starting technologies, ships style, along with map generation settings. - on each planet you have a good selection of buildings to construct from general production/science to fleet training centers and system-wide enhancers - there are adjustable lists of planets and construction queues to help with overview, I usually create list which allows me to see if there are planets which still have space left for construction - decent constructor to design ships, space stations, satellites, etc from large variety of components - research tree allows you to distribute research over several technologies, most technologies have several levels which on one hand makes you research same thing over and over but on the other hand allows for constant and gradual improvement - spying and diversions in other empires - relatively sophisticated diplomacy treaties - can share different types of resources, maps and vision, allow refueling, migration. - decent space and ground combat with direct control - space manipulations like opening/closing warp points, destroying/creating planets and even stars, can construct Dyson sphere The only real drawback except for simple visuals is AI. It is developing very slowly and generally do not provide any challenge. If you like challenge you have to search for mods that fix AI, I play for empire building, so it does not matter much for me.

Where are you, Aaron?

This is still the best game in this genre, ever. It was the apotheosis of space 4X, and everything since still pales. Fie to those who prefer SE4, btw. SE5 is the best. I'm not sure what happened, aside from the scant notes in Wikipedia about Strategy First, but SE6 would be be amazing. Even a remake/polish/continuation of SE5 would be grounds for great celebration.

Still hoping for SE6

SE5 is one of my all time favorites. I've lost many a night's sleep to the "one more turn" addiction, while advancing my empire closer to galactic domination. I still have my game CD around here somewhere from my original purchase. Like many of the classic strategy games, it is very easy to mod, with all the primary data files being plain text. Definitely worth picking up if you're a fan of the 4x genre.

SE4&5 is the best!

Best example of almost one man game that in strategy plane overpowers most if not all modern 4x strategies. It is simple at first look but very deep if you dive into it. And IT DOES HAVE A MULTIPLAYER! It's little rough on edges but can be played even over email by up to 8 players (at least for SE5 it is).
