Happy to report that the RC1 solves the crash problem for me and I am able to play. Original release and first attempt patch both crashed. Many thanks for your hard work on this crash problem.
I'm getting an issue on SS1 Enhanced where if I try to read any email or logs or even double clicking on the papers on the ground it crashes. I'm on intel HD 4600 if it matters.

Have you applied the RC1 patch from the link NightDiveStudios provided at the top of this thread? Only I don't think that patch has made it into a GOG updated installer yet.
I'm an idiot for not carefully reading the OP. Seems to have fixed it. Thanks!
The link to the RC patch on the first page doesn't work for me it seems. Are there any alternate download links?
Can someone get us a working link to the RC patch please?
My game crashes anytime I use the keyboard so I have not been able to play it yet.

no idea why it would be removed, maybe accidentally? here is a mirror for now.

Um, the .7z archive in that link appears to be empty.

EDIT: Nevermind, my unzipping program was borked.

Hallelujah, it works! Thanks a bunch Mr. Voodoo47.

Hello everyone!

I've been wanting to try out the original System Shock for a VERY long time, but I never got around to it. The release of Enhanced Edition with updated UI and resolution fixes is exactly what I was holding out for, so I'm pretty excited.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get past the difficulty selection screen. When I type on the keyboard to put my name in, the game crashes.

Prior to this I wasn't able to launch the game at all until I closed the AMD Gaming Evolved / Raptr application. (I'll probably uninstall it some time soon, it basically does nothing useful for me. Haven't won anything off points sweepstakes, the "rewards" now suck, and it's an insanely bloated driver update reminder for my needs at present.)

GOG Galaxy says I have version 1e.16 -- I verified the files, everything seems okay.

Haven't really bothered to poke at the sshock.ini settings yet, as it seems to only trigger on key input -- not some kind of rendering issue, so I assume it's something different.

Any thoughts? I skimmed a few threads and googled around a bit, but didn't see any obvious fix.

Thanks for your time. :)

Just a quick follow-up, I also had the problem about SSEE crashing whenever I pushed any key on my keyboard. This patch fixed the problem, thanks a lot!

First post should be updated to fix the broken URL, though.
In system shock enhanced the reactor destruct code is always "539579", when it should be random on every playthrough.

This bug makes the game less replayable, it should be fixed
I did boot-time scans with Avast antivirus and it found following (parts of the report line):

GalaxyClient\Games\System Shock 2\Data\res\snd.crf|>PDamage\DMTHUME2.WAV Error 42125 {ZIP archive is corrupted.}

GalaxyClient\Games\System Shock 2\Data\res\snd.crf|>SONGS\10MEL4.WAV Error 42125 {ZIP archive is corrupted.}

Has anyone else noticed this? I would appreciate it if one or two more ran boot-time scan to see if the issues' root lies in the game or my computer.

will check - I remember that some early build had a problem with a few audio clips corrupted (actually a vanilla thing), but those should have been fixed long ago.

//no problems, fresh galaxy install.

Apparently this demo doesn't work for Windows 7 32bit edition.
At least the error I get tells me to inform the admin about which version of Windows I have.

Any work arounds or am I screwed out of playing this long awaited remake?
the minimum requirements (for the remake alpha demo) are 64bit and 8GB ram, and while I was able to run in on 6GB, 32bit and its 3GB maximum are most likely out of question.

shortly, yes.
