a lot of nerve? infinitely enough of nerve
all i was supposed to do was to pay money, that's my part of the agreement
everything else - i don't care as long as it does what it's supposed to do, which it did not

it saves time this way

if you expect anything and it's different than change your expectations, easy..

AdmiralBarrett: You have a lot of nerve accusing other people indirectly of being childish when I and every other member of this forum have witnessed your hypocrisy. So you are upset that a GOG product is not working perfectly out-of-the-box. Fine. I have been burned by GOG, too. However, I did not bring an attitude problem to the forums. You have done nothing but vent your spleen since the game came out. What have you done here other than be a disruption? Nothing. Either complain to your local consumer advocacy agency or take your gripe to GOG directly. I am, quite frankly, tired of seeing your puerile ranting and attempts at trolling. I would expect this nonsense on the Blizzard forums or a Chan. Not here on GOG. I am earnestly surprised that you have not been muted or banhammed yet and, to be blunt, the mods should consider it. If you are not going to help, then kindly shut up. If you want to warn people to not buy the product, write a negative review and post it accordingly.
of course i did get refund.. you're so naive
since they know the history of my refunds, they pretty much know how much i am/not abusing anything..
fanboyism at its best!

avatar
svatem1: i want refund
i have no trust in them catching "every occurence" of the bug considering the way they perform testing..
i don't want to play for 4 hours to find out there's another problem rendering it as unusable as it was..

and BIG NO, i do not thank for something that was promised to be part of the deal and wasn't..
avatar
korell: As already stated, you've no insider knowledge of how Night Dive carry out their testing, you've only seen a quick (yes, a week is pretty darn quick) fix to a bug that some (only some) users were getting, a bug that was not seen during testing.

As for you wanting a refund, I hope you DON'T get a refund as you have stated that the game now works for you.
http://www.gog.com/forum/system_shock_series/sshock_enhanced_edition_crashes_2_sec_after_intro_started/post161
Why you only played for 10 minutes I don't know. If I were ever so eagerly awaiting a fix to let me play a game, then as soon as I get a hold of that fix I'd be playing it.

You know, you are starting to sound like someone trying to get a refund just to take advantage of GOG's DRM-free installers. I bet if GOG gave you a refund, because you claim it doesn't work for you (when it does now, as you stated), then you'd keep the game installer and play it for free.

korell: And again with the insults (that you say you don't do).
avatar
toxicTom: But the strange thing is that the game now works (so far). And believe me, I've tried quite a number of things (uninstall/reinstall even with reboot, config tweaks, compatibility settings, run as admin...).
avatar
MarkoH01: Often you don't know WHAT exactly could help. It may as well be something completely different you did of which you was not even aware of (maybe you have installed or uninstalled another prgrogram in the meantime or you have changed a setting which you thought would not be that important). Believe me, I have worked in the software business for a few years (not games but anyhow) and sometimes you'd never expect one thing to have to do with the actual problem you are experiencing and trying to solve. Because of so many different configurations, settings and nowadays even operating systems it is so extremely difficult to make sure that a game will run on every single machine no matter what - especially if it is as old as System Shock which in core still remains an old DOS game. But I tell myself that I don't care WHY it is running as long as it DOES run :) I had a quite similar experience with the classic version of the game under DOSBox. After moving the mouse the game got slower and slower (using different cycles did not help). Then I tried to get another game (Starship Titanic - GPU problems) to run and after managing that System Schock also worked fine. The bad thing is that a few days later that was not the case anymore. No idea what I have changed but I will find out eventually when I finally decide to play the classic version. Another time I received a German Patch for an old LucasArts game grom Gandimann and I also got an error message when trying to start it. Gandimann told me that it runs fine for him and in the end I found out that it only worked when starting the game with the desktop link and not direct. Bug searching is fun but its's also time consuming and you have to be very patient :)

svatem1: thx again for your advice
unfortunately for you you cannot make other ppl baheve the way you want by telling them, you'll find it out, once you grow up
avatar
MarkoH01: Yes, that is very unfortunate. I am 45 and until now I though that if you talk to people you can solve most things calm and without insults. I guess I was wrong because you just won't stop. Maybe I have to grow up too? I will also try to grow some skin and to not be a fool anymore. Everything to please you because you really seem to be the centre of the universe.

Sorry, but I just could not resist to be a little sarcastic here. The way he behaves is far beyond reasoning and I really, really, really hope that GOG will give him back his money (even hough the game works for him and they have no obligation for that anymoe) so this will finally stop.
definitely looks like i've touched your holy cow
no offense

actually I can, and I do it all the time - it's called asking nicely, and not handling other people like trash. you should try it sometimes.

also, let this be my very last post in this conversation - I agree that time should not be wasted, especially on people who don't deserve it.

you could've save tons of useless noise by saying "i don't agree with you" once, but somehow you had to reply & reply .. looks like touched holy cow syndrom to me

Oh I assure you I could not care less about you. I care about people not little kiddy-trolls who still have not learned how to communicate in a civilized kind.

Because the, oh so bad guys of GOG have the policy to not censor the forums. The most time this is a great thing it only gets sour when people who haven't learned how to behave in a community turn up out of nowhere.

Whilst you just insult & insult. The latest to the long list of insults being referring to me as naive and fanboyish.

Actually, this is what you agree to:
https://www.gog.com/support/policies/gog_user_agreement

Notice the part where it talks about refunds? Nowhere does it say you get an instant refund, it says GOG Support must have a reasonable time period in which to try to resolve the issue. So the game not working straight away is something that can (and does) happen, here on GOG and elsewhere, too.

But it looks like you managed to get your refund even though you managed to get it working with the fix that the developers made available (and that I'm sure once finalized will be on its way to GOG for a new version installer).

EDIT: Oh, just something else to point out in the GOG user agreement:

Section 9.1(d): Don't hack, harm, grief or misuse GOG services or GOG content.
Section 9.1(g): Don't do or say anything which is or may be considered racist, xenophobic, sexist, defamatory or otherwise offensive or illegal. Be nice to each other please!

Looks to me like you are griefing here on the GOG forums (the GOG forums being services and content) and being offensive by insulting people.

The game worked as far! Thank you for your hard work! I'm really appreciated!

By the way, I'm glad to help ya with the crashing / freezing problems in the game. My obsession of System Shock games helped me so enthusiastic to troubleshoot the game. Heh!
patch looking good. though I'm slightly concerned that when comparing the RES\DATA folders of the Enhanced and Classic editions, some files are still missing from EE - it'd probably be prudent to double check this.

Which files in particular and do we know what content those files provide?
LOFRINTR.RES
LOGEINTR.RES
LOWDETH.RES
LOWEND.RES
LOWINTR.RES

I'm thinking that those are most likely lowres versions of the cutscenes, so probably not a problem, but should be double checked anyway, and maybe included just to be sure (extra 30MB is really of no concern nowadays). better safe than sorry.
Yeah, my best guess as to what the files are:

LOWINTR.RES - low res intro
LOFRINTR.RES - low res intro, French
LOGEINTR.RES - low res intro, German
LOWDETH.RES - low res death animation
LOWEND.RES - low res winning animation
