stuntology: If you've saved a character in the first game, you should be able to right-click the icon and select one of the options to view the files in the folder. Find your .sav that you created, and copy and paste it into QFG2's folder. You should see it in the list of files when importing.

rmordcav: I did save my character from first but I don't know what you are referring to when you say :right click" on I see (in qfg2) a list of files(?) and a change directory to the right of that and when I open up qfg1 i can go back to saved games to play or change directory but I have no idea what that means. Sorry to be such a numbskull but I don't know these things.
You're in the game, on the save/restore game screen for what you're referring too, right? I mean that from your desktop, where the icon to launch the game is, you need to right click the icon to get to the files. None of this is actually done while playing the game. (I'm using a mac, so I don't know exactly what you'd click to view the files, but I know that there would be an option).

Hope this clears up some of the confusion!
Sorry, but there is no icon in qfg2 import menu. Not sure if this series is worth the trouble.I don't even know where the qfg1 saved games is stored let alone know how to change directories. Oh well thanks anyway.

I think that It's definitely worth the effort! They're awesome games!

So....

You know how on your desktop, you have various icons? Such as Internet explorer, Microsoft word, etc. One of them is Quest for Glory, right? DO NOT LAUNCH THE GAME. Right click the icon on QFG1 to view the files, and copy your .sav file. Let me know once you're there.
Ok so I have the saved files I found it and copied it straight to my desktop but still don't know where to send it, by the way is it going to be this difficult (judging by other posts) everytime? Thanks for sticking with this by t

Almost done. Instead of the desktop, open the QfG2 folder (same way as you opened the QfG1 folder), and paste the .sav there. Then you should be able to import the character in the second game, by selecting the file in the list.
Actually where in the in qfg2 game? I did this and then went to import in qfg2 and couldn't find it in the list. What is the save file directory for these games?Where in qfg2 or any of them for that matter do you place save files from previous games? I don't have an "A" drive on my laptop, do they still make floppy drives??? Thanks once again for baby walking me through this.

I just put it right smack in with the rest of the game files. (I don't think that you need to put in a sub folder or anything).
Didn't work did that right away.

I downloaded the quest for glory pack, so no physical disks. I did not "mount" anything in the dosbox startup. I cannot export/import characters in the next game, nor to any other game in the series. I have saved the character from Quest for Glory (qfg) 1 and tried to just "stick" into the next game but it does not appear in the game directory(ies) such as qfg2 as an example. I am using a laptop, running windows vista (home version) I placed the games in the C: / directory on my computer. Any help whatsoever would be appreciated. I have completed the first and second qfg and have the glory1sav file is there a chance it is empty and is there some way to tell I have clicked on it tried to use "explore" to see what is there but nothing happens I have also saved qfg2 game character but again can't add it to qfg3 it does not show up in directory of qfg3. So, what am I doing wrong besides wasting time on this mess?

See attached image for the Export screen of QfG1 (Ega Version). Assuming this is the screen you used to export your character, proceed to step 2 of the FAQ.
You say you installed the games in your C:\
If that means the games are installed to C:\Quest for Glory Pack\, your exported character should be at C:\\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 1\EGA\glory1.sav in which case copy that file to \Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2\ and import it in the 2nd game.

I had the same issue and find that closing the game deleted the created save file so after i created the save i had to alt-tab and search for the file and paste the save into the quest for glory 2 folder as described by many of the posts here, THEN exited the game.

Help!

3. I am using Windows Vista/7 with UAC turned on, and my exports aren't found in the game's
directory

I tried everything listed on this board and others, and still could not fix the problem, so I came up with my own solution that actually saves you from having to copy/paste your saves across games as well. Here's what I did:

1. Create a directory that sits outside of the "Program Files (x86)" directory tree. I put mine at "C:\QfgSaves"

2. We need to modify the dosbox configuration files to mount the a: drive to this folder. Each game has its own dosbox configuration file (QFG1 has two). Go to "Program Files (x86)\\Quest for Glory Pack", and go into each directory and do the following:
a. Grant yourself write permissions to the dosboxQG#.conf file (through the security tab in the properties menu)
b. Edit the file in notepad. In the [autoexec] section of the file, add the following line after @echo off:
mount A c:\QfgSaves

Once this is done for all games, you can simply export your saves to a: (ie a:\). When importing a character, just change directory to a: and you will see all the exports you have made for all games. No more copy/paste. It just all works.
