kalirion: Ok, how do you use that Sierra Patch to fix the QFG2 import changing class to Fighter? The Readme instructions say to use the patch on the "installation" disk and then install as normal. But we don't have an installation disk here, GOG just unpacks the fully installed game!
Just extract the patch into QFG2's folder

Ah, that worked, thanks!

Now to see if I'll be able to handle the EGA version's parser interface. I'm guessing the answer will be no, and I'll end up using the point & click fan remake instead.

CAMIR0503: Hi everyone. I have a problem. Because I like to install Games on a different partition then the OS, my Quest for Glory Folder is on the G:\ drive. This means that all of the ways how to import your character from the first post are invalid. The files do not exist anywhere on the system. Furthermore the character editors all don't work anymore, because it's 64 bit OS (Win 7) and I get an error. Compatibility mode doesn't help either for those Char creators.
I would like to import my character from the first game, though. Ideas?

JMich: Assuming you've exported the file as "C:\glory1.sav", the file should be in the game's directory, since it's not a UAC controlled folder. If you've installed the game in
"G:\Games\Quest for Glory Pack\" then the file should be "G:\Games\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 1\EGA\glory1.sav" for the original, or "G:\Games\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 1\VGA\glory1.sav" for the VGA remake. The game's "C:\" always corresponds to the game's install folder.
This was the comment I needed. Thank you!
Can anyone point me to where I can get the Sierra Patch to fix the QFG2 import changing class to Fighter???

The sierrahelp site is down :(

Got it now, thanks!
Something I just discovered, my character save files are under the "Cloud_Saves" file in the game file. It's also found in the "EGA" folder if you're using the EGA version of Quest for Glory 1. This is the Windows version if that helps anything.
Has anyone had this issue:

Basically: when I’m transferring my Wizard character save onto QFG3 from the VGA remake of QFG2 it transfers everything BUT the Chainmail Armor that I had in the previous two games. Any ideas on how to correct this or is there a way I can get the Chainmail through coding it in? Thanks

Unfortunately, the upgraded armour only imports from 1 to 2. Yes, it is possible to mod the rest of the series to make them all import your armour too, but modding QFG5 would be a unique challenge, due to it using an entirely unique engine, different even from its own demo, whereas the other games use variants of the Sierra Creative Interpreter to run. (Or in the case of QFG2VGA, which you played, the Adventure Game Studio engine)

Now, as for modifying your save data, QFG5 lets you easily mod your data with a hex editor - just replace the leather armour you'll start with with chainmail if you so choose. I'm not so expert in modding QFG3 and 4 save data, but it would definitely be different if you were playing via ScummVM, due to its nature as a collection of source ports (you wouldn't be using the SCI, but instead ScummVM's SCI wrapper)

I played Fighter > Paladin first - and it felt cool to keep my armour upgrade I had so prudently bought throughout the adventures. It wasn't until I played Magic User that I realised that... didn't really happen.
I downloaded the Quest for Glory V from GoG, then installed it. Then when I tried to import a character, it crashed. I can't import a character.:( What's going on? What gives here?

I'm using Win XP SP 3 32-bit OS.

Somebody, please help.
Hi all,

I'm posting this here instead and deleting my separate thread -- apologies!

I'm currently (re)-playing the Quest for Glory series and I've so far successfully imported the same character from game to game (QFG1 VGA, QFG2 AGD Interactive and QFG3) by creating/exporting and then importing .sav files.

However, I'm now having problems exporting my character to QFG4. When I'm prompted to create a .sav file at the end of QFG3 the game does not accept my USB-stick (e:) as a valid path, nor any paths other than simply c: (e.g. c:qest3.sav). I've tried creating .sav games in c: and looking for them there and in the actual game directory for DOSBOX, but I can't find them to export them again (I've made "hidden files" visible on my computer, but without success). There is nothing in the Cloud saves.

Has anyone else had this problem and/or do you know a way around it?

My Paladin Ebany Salamander and I are impantient to rediscover Mordavia! :-)

Many thanks in advance!

When you export a character from the game, the file structure it shows is based on where the game is currently mounted.

" G:\Games\GOG\Quest for Glory 3\ "- where I have QFG3 installed on my computer.
" G:\Games\GOG\Quest for Glory 4\ "- where I have QFG4 installed on my computer.

So for instance, when I export a character from QFG3 on my PC, and if I save it to C:\, it saves it in my QFG3 directory. When I want to import that saved character, I copy the export from that directory, and save it in my QFG4 directory. If it's a file that you can't find, open the root directory that has all your QFG games installed, and do a search in explorer for it. Look for qest3, if that's what you named it, or just for .sav files. It should show up, and you can copy it to your QFG4 directory.
As a note, if you have cloud saving enabled, it'll put the .sav files in a folder called cloud_saves within the QFG3 folder instead.

I found that out recently.

Thanks so much for replying!

This procedure worked for me with the previous games, but I can't understand why it doesn't work now.

I've tried several times to save my game as c:glory3.sav and c:qfg3.sav etc and have then looked for these files int he QFG3 directory. I've ticked "showed hidden elements", but the .sav files are simply not there.

When I search for *.sav files in Explorer it finds save-games from other games, but not from QFG3. Even the cloud_saves folder for QFG3 is mysteriously empty (the cloud_saves folders for the previous two games are not). As far as my computer is conderned, there are no save games from this game.

I moved my QFG2 .sav file into the QFG4 game folder and was then actually able to import my character from QFG2, but of course I'd prefer to import my beefed-up QFG3-character.

Might there be something wrong with the cloud saves? I guess there is no way for you to know if you haven't had a similar problem!

Thanks! I thought I had cloud saving enabled (as with the previous two games), but when I look in that folder now it's empty. It's a mystery!

That is weird. I haven't imported a character thru the GOG versions of the game, but I do remember having an export character not having the .sav extension in one of the games. Was never sure if I just mistyped it, or if the export didn't add it.

With most microsoft file systems, If you use c: rather than c:\ it will whatever the current working directory is. Try exporting again as c:\glory3.sav, maybe that's what's happening?
