Red_Eagle_LXIX: This is just sad, both from GOG and worse from HelloGames.

Disappointing that folks used a cracked version of the competitive distribution platform's patch actually can get it working, using the patch directly from the competitive distribution service can get it working, but not the ones who use the patch provided here.

So what fixes are/did we get comparative to the Steam version?
What version are we at as comparative to the versions on Steam? The GOG version number matches one of the Steam build numbers (according to SteamDB), except that build on Steam has fixes not in the GOG version. The GOG version is broken where that build works from Steam.

Anyone from GOG or HelloGames like to speak up?

micktiegs_8: What do you mean? I used the patch from here and it is improved.
Look through the thread.
One clear sign this version does not work as well, or does not have the same fixes.
Phenom users of the GOG patched version still don't work.
That was fixed on Steam by experimental patch #2.
It was still working in Experimental 3,4.
It works in official steam patch 1.
It is also still working in experimental 5.

It even works in cracked versions of those patches, but not GOG's patched version.

That one item alone shows the patches between Steam and GOG to be majorly different. Severely lacks major code changes that went into the game engine (by HelloGames own words of the rewrites they did to support such), or just has some changes still majorly broken in the GOG version. Since we've not been told which patch this matches to, it is hard to say for certain beyond it does not share the same fixes as the Steam version in a working state.

mayahana: Your end of life, 7 year old processor is probably a bottleneck. It's almost half the performance of a currently i7, and even 15-20% slower than a low cost AMD FX chip.
Dude im playing the game on these specs:

*Intel Core2Quad q9505 (overclocked to 3.6ghz)
*8GB DDR2 800mhz Ram
*2GB Nvidia 650 PCI-E
*Soundblaster Audigy 2
*CRT Monitor with 1024x768 native resolution (hint: the game responds insanely well to lower res settings)
*Windows Vista SP2 x64 (yeah it works)

Its playable for me, been playing it all week, heres my settings:

Textures - Low
Shadows - Medium
Generation Detail - High
Reflections - Medium
Resolution - 800x600
Vsync - off
antialiasing of all types is off

the game has optimization issues, im enjoying the game on a spud, while people who've dumped thousands into their rig are miserable, it only seems to care about certain settings, like the resolution and texture setting, if i turn the resolution to 640x480, it goes straight to near 60fps (like 58), its really smooth but man, its tough to read text even on a tube display at that setting because the game has zero scaling built in, so the text turns into pixels..

(edited to remove reference to PS4 hardware, as i feel its pointless to the issue at hand, the game should be working as good on a fast machine as it does on my potato, and i doubt it'd be alot of fun to play nms on a digital display at low resolution since it'd look like rubbish compared to a tube display.)

(edit2: the w3680 CPU scores 9100 points on passmark, you'd need a FX-9590 to outpace that intel chip which likely cost a fortune when it came out, so no, his CPU is not a bottleneck)

My game looks worse than before. I had a picture taken before this patch, it looked great.
now everything is blurry. I know I sound crazy, like how everyone seems to be getting a better graphics
for me, it looks like I downgraded. Almost like playing in 720 res instead of 1080
This is yesterday:

This is today:

Note the jagginess , despite having FXAA on and in general, the planets look like sh1t
from a distance and there is more pop in and less visibility, I can barely make out anything out while flying over the planet's surface.

I'm seriously considering dropping this game for a while. I lost my save game too (22hrs) yesterday. The game was saying
it was saving it, but it wasn't.
On the other hand, I had a lot of things going bad in my previous save. I kept getting messages what blueprints I "already have" by visiting factories and opening broken machines, but I didn't. I barely had anything, no V2 chip and a bunch of other stuff was not showing up. Now, restarted, after 4 hours, I got blueprints I never seen before or got a lot later and now I'm seeing unique items (!- marks), which I never saw before (playing 22 hours).
Despite all this, the graphics look like crap for me right now. Same driver like yesterday..didn't change options.

chaosWyrM: its not gogs fault the game is buggy...but it most certainly is gogs fault that their customers still dont have access to the fixes others got 4 days ago.

it doesnt matter if its hg that just wont send it to them...its gogs obligation and responsibility to ensure they get the same level support as other platforms. they obviously failed miserably in doing so.

if you dont understand that...then you dont know how businesses work.

as a paying customer...i dont care at all what the reasons are. all i know is that if i had spent that same $60 over at steam...id be playing the game for 4 days now.

but im not. its still broken...nearly a week after launch...even though theres been a fix for 4 days.

Rubicanto: How?!

What shall they do if Hello Games don't send updates? They send mobsters Hammer down their door? And after they comeback with the holy patch?

And i know how a business work, thx for asking: if your dealer don't send you anything, you are fucked. You can't do anything. Customers can yell, threaten you, everything they want, you CAN'T DO ANYTHING (if the good you need is very specific).

Now if you are able to negotiate the same deal for "John Doe Gaming" than for Best Buy, you are certainly the best negotiator in the work so plz, share you magic method with all of us.

GOG isn't perfect, and im not a fanboy, but i think Hello Games deserve more critics than our Polish friends.
how?

not my problem how. the bottom line is its their responsibility.

and not for nothing, but i didnt ask anything...i told you something.

i dont give a rats ass WHY the patches arent available. all i care about is the fact that they exist and are inaccessible to me as a paying customer. that is the entirety of what i care about.

how gog provides the service i paid for is inconsequential to me..only the fact that they DO provide it matters...which they have not.

steam is providing the service its customers paid for, so its not like it isnt possible to do. i paid the same amount for the same service and im not getting it...where the fuck is it?

its gogs fault im not playing this game yet. either because they didnt negotiate adequate terms with hg, or they are unable to enforce the terms they did negotiate...either way...this is 100% entirely on them.

We got the same version as Steam, build 1284085. This update includes some updated *.pak files and an updated .exe. The .exe file is slightly different for Steam and GoG, since Steam has some DRM stuff and both might modify the exe to allow the Steam / Galaxy Client to track achievements. When they created the .exe for GoG, they f*** up in some way, ending up with a patch on GoG that does NOT fix the Phenom II issue like the corresponding patch on Steam.

As for the pirated patch, as I pointed out earlier, save data is account-specific. If you start playing on the pirated version, you can not go back in the future without starting all over again.
Anyone else notice beta is disabled on the install page now for no man's sky??
Still crashes at Hello Games start up. Current version 128405, and yes running a phenom II, yet this is the only game that has this issue.. Other newly released games fly along.
Framerate is a bit better for me (i5 / 8gb RAM / GTX 970), but I still have to force Adaptative V-Sync in Nvidia drivers to get 50-60 fps, which results in massive screen-tearing everytime I look at water.

AND... game crashes each time I want to access the Galactic Map, tried 5 times with different settings. This has never happened before the patch.

Some Steam users seem to have encounter this Map problem with the 2nd version of the experimental patch, which was corrected in the 3rd version. So I don't know what to think anymore about how old GOG patch really is.

I'm done with this, I'm going to ask for refund. Maybe the game will be actually finished in a few months, I'll see if it's worth the price then.
Marginal specs, but theoretically should work based on support notes, however it still crashes at the logo for me with the latest version on GoG. I sent my details through to HG support email.

Phenom II X6 1055T
Radeon HD 6850
8GB RAM
Pretty pissed at GOG and HG about this. I sat on this for a week, but have now pulled the trigger on refund request. I don't really care who is more at fault out of both of them, but the fact that if I went with another provider (steam) would mean I can play right now, means I put my dollars to the wrong provider.
It's weekend now here. If they get the proper patch in before COB their time I'll revoke refund request. Otherwise I'll buy from steam and very adamantly pursue refund request.

This is pretty much exactly my take on the situation - this weekend, I'd ike to finally play the game I've paid for, so if GoG keeps up the no support / no communication policy, I'll buy on Steam this afternoon and request a refund here.

revoking refund now costs 200$

Thats right! But i think, i wouldnt by this game at steam, or somewhere else
Patch works great (for me)! Hope they are fixing the remaining problems :(
If some people are saying (like me) that the game now works super fine, then all this talk of "steam version working, GOG version not" it a bit much. This is NOT Arkham or anything although it's being talked about as if it is. It's jjust a shame we have allowed an industry to grow up that can be totally silent. On sales. On returns/refund. Just general information so we know how small/big the problem is.

Sean at Hello said that about 1% had problems, but many say this is just ticketed support numbers, but even if it is, I am inclined to believe it's about 5% that are having various issues. So can we please calm down a little.

There is supposedly another patch next week. And GOG gives 30 days money backs. So there's time.
