Red_Eagle_LXIX: Steam and GOG both have new update
I had to restart Galaxy to get it to show the new update.

Kibou: It finally works! :D

I can now get past the Hello Games logo and see the intro and actual game =D

Actually, it runs just fine on max settings - the game doesn't seem to be very demanding resource-wise. There seem to be plenty of bugs where even high-end machines have bad fps, but so far I don't seem to be affected by any.

Red_Eagle_LXIX: Good to hear it is working now.
Fucking finaly. sucks that my progress couldn't be kept on for the TPB patch, but at least it looks hopeful that we won't need to do any of that shit again. fingers crossed
Cannot verify its all working now, but changelog makes me happy again:

Patch 1287169 (19 August 2016)
An issue causing the game not to save after dying is fixed
A crash which occurred during warp is fixed
A crash in the scanning system is fixed
Phenom II processors crash fixed

Fingers crossed it will work for us Phenoms:)

Happy gaming guys!:)

opmopadop: I switched to 'Manual', restarted 'Galaxy' and got to see the update info. For the first time since I bought this game a week ago I just saw the intro animation... Guess I will experience all those fuzzy feelings a lot of people did a week ago.

micktiegs_8: Sure you will. Just as long as you haven't looked at trailers, promotional demos, YouTube videos on the centre of the galaxy... you'll be alright then.
Do you know how hard it is to research why a game wont start without reading spoilers... I did my best. Btw, shout out to Phenom users (965 @ 3.7Ghz with a R9 380 4GB), running at 1080p at max settings, runs great.
After the patch and some tuning on the nvidia driver, I've got 10 more fps on my rig. Now I'm running constantly on 40-50 fps.

Nice!

beldorianer: After the latest GOG patch (1287169) I can finally start the game (on my phenom II)! :D

Game updated via GOG Galaxy, 1.4 GB download.

Regals: in before people complaining now they can run it on their forty year old computer it doesn't run max setttings.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenom_II
You really should learn something about Phenoms before stating things like this.

Phenom was the most popular CPU chipset AMD ever released. For performance for the dollar nothing beat it. Even better, the II version could be ACC bios unlocked with a single click offering full, real 4 core support back when most chips were 2 core. So for $99 or less you got a true 4 core CPU when all of your pans were playing around with Pentium 4 computers still.

Even today, a Phenom II with ACC enabled scores only 10% less in performance than an FX8320 CPU. A Phenom II can run all modern games perfectly fine assuming you have a proper motherboard and GPU. Often tossing a modern GPU into a Phenom system will yield perfect, ultra performance on a modern game. I know this because my daughter has a Phenom II with ACC on (x4) which is a quad core overclocked to 4.2Ghz with a 980GTX-OC and she plays current games maxed.

Hello Game's messed up big. Why? They used a closed loop developed SSE version that should not have been used. Phenom's support SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4a perfectly fine. Hello Games decided to use SSE4.1 which is a ridiculous oversight. It's pretty obvious Hello Games was focused almost entirely on the PS4 version.. OBVIOUS.

Also, kind of mad there is already a patch because of time spent the other day resolving this myself.

What did I do? I went to my first torrent site I have been to in a decade and downloaded No Man's Sky that was patched up to the current level, and installed that because GOG is so far behind on issuing patches in comparison to steam. Now this comes out a couple days later. GOG has been disappointing, probably my last GOG purchase for me unless i need a DRM free game for some reason.

I still have issues getting the galaxy map to work without GoG Galaxy being online.

To me when a game forces you to be on line for 100% functionality it is copy protected and I thought GoG did not sell copy protected games, face it a rose by any other name is still a rose.

When I try to use the Galaxy map in NMS pressing right in the d-pan on controller does nothing but orbit the games around the current star UNLESS I am online then that feature does work.

Some other have said their PC does work directly with keyboard but mine does not. In fact when I go to the galactic map even with GoG Galaxy running it says (Press TAB to search for discoveries) and mine does not work unless you press (X) and then the (D) key to go to closest star system.

Even then Hello Games just was not looking ahead, what if the star you jumped to was NOT the closest and you wanted to navigate back ?? Why did they not at least allow labels on the stars at least for a couple hundred light years out or something.

regardless of how they fix this I will never buy a product from Hello Games again and will do my best to talk my wife and friends out of buying any GoG games as selling one that demands a internet connection for a non internet function IS copy protection.
Admittedly, I have a high end PC, however, I don't know whether it's because I clicked to optimize on the Nvidea Geforce Experience, or the new patch, but it's running super smooth now, at max settings on 3 monitors.

Before it was running well enough for me, but not silky smooth, now it's silky smooth.

And a fantastic game experience, I'm having a great time exploring. It may be that gamers expect a bit too much these days. I've been gaming since the 80s, where there really was some dross around. This is fabulous, congrats to all involved.

And for fellow gamers, enjoy it for what it is. A fun game. Bordering on revolutionary, and as with all revolutions, there's always room for improvement, it's just the beginning.
Latest Patch: 1287169

CPU: Phenom II 1100T
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 6970

Game finally launches properly and gets me into the game starting area with your crashed ship. Dunno about other bugs, but i'll worry about that once I start playing more.
For the love of God... after they was able to fix the problem with FXAA and SSAA in the first patch... It's broken again.

I am the only one with this problem ?
Why does the patch say its not compatible with the game and it may break it?

You don`t need GOG Galaxy at all to play this or even go online. I haven`t used GOG glaxy ever and from the 1st day I ws able to play (and upload to get cash) completely offline, without any GOG Galaxy or being online.

The only penalty is that without GOG galaxy you don`t have your own name in game and just get called `Explorer`, which seems very strange. I wonder why they did it like that?
Ok tried the new patch. No good. Still the same problem. Crash on launch. Yes I met the requirements i7, nvidia updates, SSE4.1 etc etc been through all that before.

I'll wait 2 more weeks so will d/l whatever patch is current then and give it one last go and hopefully it will start.

Glad to see that for most people, it is now either working, or working better.

Did you try to verify you game (under "more-manage installation-verify / repair" in galaxy) after downloading the patch? When I first tried to play again after downloading the patch it crashed (for the first time for me), but after verifying it started fine again.

Because No Man's Sky uses a player's Steam / PSN / Galaxy account to authenticate them. It's much easier for a developer integrate these authentication systems into an app than it is to stand up their own servers and deal with account management, password recovery, account security, etc.

Without Galaxy running, the GOG version of the game has no way to uniquely identify the player and authenticate them to the game's servers, so it just uses the generic "Explorer."

All I want is to be able to name my character in the game. I don`t care about all that `authentication crap`. That`s why I get a GOG game. I don`t want some kind of disguised DRM. I don`t go online, I just want to name my character. That`s it.

Why am I even responding to you, it`s not like you even know. I`ve seen people like you try and tell me what you `think` is happening, then a month later it turns out they can do what i`m asking and people like you just slink away. i`ll remember your name for just when they do impement custom naming for people without GOG Galaxy.
