ivi1010111: Can't seem to find my "code" on my "game shelf", whatever those things are. need some help here, pls.
Click on the cover of Shadowfall Returns and there should be a code under the installers of the game and the DLC, then you just redeem the giftcode as any other giftcode.

inc09nito: Again, a DLC mess.
I think I will wait till the whole game is assembled into some form of Ultimate/Complete/Uberfuckingawesome Edition.
avatar
JudasIscariot: What DLC mess? The DLC is being turned into a standalone game...
Only GOG users could turn something nice into an unholy conspiracy.
avatar
inc09nito: Thanks for clarifying things :)
Does this come with Level Editor too? (like the original game, if I remember correctly...)
avatar
JudasIscariot: Yes, yes it does :)
It doesn't seem to be present in the OS X download. I see the game itself, but no separate editor application as before. And it doesn't seem to be hidden in the game instead, since clicking the "Editor" button does nothing.

skeecher: No, I think he may be right. The more I think about this, the more I think that it is a bit of a DLC mess.

They may well have released it as a standalone game, but I'm growing more concerned as to why they removed the original DLC of Dragonfall, instead of upgrading it (and the base SR game) too. It seems more like a move away from the Shadowrun Returns game, in favour of updated editions. This I gleened from their comment on UGC files.
The new version of Dragonfall is also using a new version of the game engine, and by the looks of it, the changes are enough that it isn't really backwards-compatible anymore, so it would end up breaking Dead Man's Switch (and mods written for the original SRR engine) if they simply upgraded the whole thing.

There's probably another factor: decoupling the two means that someone CAN buy Dragonfall without having to buy the original one, and that's both more consumer-friendly and nixes the general "expansions don't sell as well as the original" problem.
Gaah! Another addition to the wishlist! GOG is going to be the ruin of me! :-)

I would love all (good) video games to come as a whole, consistent experience. I'd love to have them in a Complete state, not chopped into pieces. Is this something wrong? Is this a conspiracy?

I believe this is what they are doing. Constantly updating the game so it is a more consistent, complete experience. I've played it, it's great. They have also done it for free if you own the game.

No, they aren't updating the game, but the DLC to it. So now there's one of their products that's left behind (the base of the game) and the expansion living its own life. That's something far from consistency.

The old base game is included with this game. They have decided to use the expansion as the base game now. Slightly confusing but sorry, I just can't see this as a bad thing. I think that Hair Brained Schemes, on the whole, have done a very good job. The actual game is reasonably priced, they have kept updating and improving the game and made any subsequent improvements free to those that have already purchased it while making it more appealing to those that haven't.

Is there something with the original Dead Man's Switch that is bothering you? Maybe you need to take it up with the developer?

Here is something from a FAQ on their website:

"Is there any possibility of a Director’s Cut for Dead Man’s Switch?

Currently, we don’t have plans for a DMS Director’s Cut. However, we’ve released several updates to DMS over the course of the last year, including a major update with the new save game functionality when Dragonfall first launched. A few weeks ago, we pushed another DMS patch which includes some balance changes to key parts of the game. While it’s not a Director’s Cut, we hope those changes will provide a better experience for everyone."

Sooo... Wait? Until it, just as any other popular game which game out in several pieces in history of videogaming, comes out in a complete edition?

Well, if you say so. I've got to admit that I haven't given it a try yet. At the moment all I can say is that I am really confused which of the two I should buy, because it seems they are sold separately. So again:do I have to buy both to get the "complete" experience? or just one?

Okay: Wait until a complete edition comes out. Solved. There's no need to complain about companies releasing expansions, really.

I think that Dragonfall Director's Cut is the only version you can buy now and it doesn't sound like it comes with the original Dead Man's Switch campaign. This was apparently because the original campaign wasn't well liked by the fans and the thought Dragonfall should be the main game. Which is a shame because DMS wasn't bad at all. However, Dragonfall is better and they have put a lot of work improving this version and I think it is great value for the price. Some people don't like Shadowrun because it isn't really open world enough and is quite linear in gameplay. However, the writing and characters are great and I was addicted to it!

The only thing missing from the GOG version is the Steam Workshop (i actually have this on Steam) because some of the fan made campaigns are really well done. The GOG version may still have the campaign creator so you can make your own campaigns? Or this may be a feature on Galaxy? Best to as GOG or the developers.
