Just how they used to make them.

Eschalon Book I, an old-school RPG with open world, isometric graphics, and classic gameplay mechanics, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the first week!

If you're an old-time computer role-playing fan, the chances are that you said the following at least once in your life: "They don't make cRPGs as they used to, nowadays". For the better part, you would be correct. Most of the modern role-playing games don't look nor play like their classic predecessors. It doesn't necessarily mean they're not as good, but they are--well--different. For all gamers disappointed by that state of things, here's a title custom-tailored to their nostalgic needs!

Eschalon Book I was developed by people who are old-time hardcore computer role-players themselves, and you can see it in every aspect of their brilliant game. With classic isometric graphics, traditional gameplay mechanics, a large open-ended world, tons of quests, and randomly generated loot, this game is everything you need to get into that nostalgic mood only a fantasy adventure can induce. Highly recommended to all cRPG gamers!

Prepare for a truly old-school and satisfying cRPG experience with Eschalon Book I, for only $2.99! That's 50% off the regular price until Tuesday, May 14, at 9:59AM GMT.
Is a key for the Linux version included by any chance?

BlueMooner: Is this YET ANOTHER game where you're locked into playing a hetero white male? Can you choose skin color at least?
Of the seven male characters available in the demo:
two are black
one is on the greenish side of olive-skinned
at least four are gay (in my estimation)

Finally, one character isn't allowed with 500m of a school.

Edit: I can't spell "on" properly.

Yes, the walking speed is slow in this first game of the series, but somehow the world still managed to suck me in for two weeks until I finished the game. And started again with a different character :) Both games in this series left me wanting for more, and gave me lots of gaming enjoyment. Highly recommended if you are not too action-oriented!
Looks like I'll have to try the demo then. There goes my afternoon.
Hell yeah Eschalon Book I & II !!! I love these games! Yay!
I tried playing this a while back, but kept running into the save game corruption bug it had. Any word on whether that was fixed? This was a year or so ago, and I'd like to try again sans steam.
I believe I own both of these games on Steam, but I couldn't tell you anything about them other than that I died several times and the autosave wasn't especially forgiving.
Here's the dev's demo page everybody for those who want to try it:

Also, GOG staff, FYI there may be a small error on the gamecard page. Above the purchase option there's a textbox that says, "Until Tuesday, May 14, at 9:59AM GMT, you can also get the other Eschalon, 50% off!"

"the other Eschalon" is underlined like it's supposed to be a link, but it isn't. Might want to fix the dead links. I'm guessing since you have the same message on both games, that's why there's no specific link, but just wanted to mention it, in case.

I haven't found the right moment to start these games but that doesn't bode well, I thought you could manually save or won't the game load where you saved or what?

You can manually save, it just used to corrupt your saves sometimes. Not sure if it still does.

It's a link to a promo page :D I checked the link via Chrome, not sure how it looks in other browsers.

It worked in Opera, but not in my standard Firefox.

I guess that would definitely make the saying "Just how they used to make them" seem truer than ever. Anyone who played those old school games upon release or soon after had to live with the bugs.

*sigh*
You're kidding, right?
Hell yeah!
