Just how they used to make them.

Eschalon Book I, an old-school RPG with open world, isometric graphics, and classic gameplay mechanics, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the first week!

If you're an old-time computer role-playing fan, the chances are that you said the following at least once in your life: "They don't make cRPGs as they used to, nowadays". For the better part, you would be correct. Most of the modern role-playing games don't look nor play like their classic predecessors. It doesn't necessarily mean they're not as good, but they are--well--different. For all gamers disappointed by that state of things, here's a title custom-tailored to their nostalgic needs!

Eschalon Book I was developed by people who are old-time hardcore computer role-players themselves, and you can see it in every aspect of their brilliant game. With classic isometric graphics, traditional gameplay mechanics, a large open-ended world, tons of quests, and randomly generated loot, this game is everything you need to get into that nostalgic mood only a fantasy adventure can induce. Highly recommended to all cRPG gamers!

Prepare for a truly old-school and satisfying cRPG experience with Eschalon Book I, for only $2.99! That's 50% off the regular price until Tuesday, May 14, at 9:59AM GMT.
Good games for a good prices. But I would prefer Siege of Avalon, if you asked me.

Iain: Love these 2 games, have them both on Steam already but to support the devs I will buy them here also for the extras, I contacted them to say thanks for creating a series of games that has actually held my interest. I am 22 hours into the second game at the moment and have been loving it (You can get around 60 hours out of the game if you do everything from what I have read). I actually got an email back off them saying thanks for supporting our games, I did also mention in my email why not get these games on GOG and here they are!!!

Its not often a dev would even take the time to reply to a fan so it was really nice getting a reply that wasn't automated.

It can be played like the Baldurs Gate / Icewind Dale games. You can do hack n slash or pause during combat to set what you are going to do. If you wish you can also turn on a turn based grid.

I prefer these games over the Spiderweb games, they are considerably more accessible and easier to get to grips with and don't punish you for mistakes.

Really high point for me is also the sound, the music and effects add to the whole setting, they have got the balance just right between visuals, music and effects.

So stop reading this now and BUY BOTH GAMES!!!!

Not forgetting Book 3 is out later this year :)
Don't worry - they're must buys for me at the end of the week :)

Thanks for the mini review though!
Sorry to say this, but.. Tuesday was for gog classics (commercial?) new games and Thursday was for indie gog new games... and this is not a classic comercial game but a classic indie game. Or maybe i was wrong. Im fine with those spiderweb and basilisk games here, but im feeling that we're getting indie games even on the release days we were getting real classic games... and maybe some of us wait for Tuesdays with hope to see something else and get another indie game (ok.. classic indie game, but indie game).

Not my cup of tea, but im happy to see others jump to buy it asap.
I played both and they really scratch that oldschool RPG itch. They scratch it good. I recommend them!

Kunovski: I might write some once I get home... in the meantime, buy it :D
- it has great combat system (it's realtime and turnbased at the same time!)
- it has good RPG mechanics
- it has decent story
- it's cheap as crazy and it doesn't take that much time to finish :)
(Thumbs up).

PMIK: But it is on sale! How can you resist?
I can't! That's why I'm making excuses! :(
My rpg sense is tingling, my credit card is screaming in terror and I am getting two new games today.
Already have them both. Rebuying them both here because love. <3
Interestingly, PCGamer puts Eschalon Book III on their "Best PC Games of 2013" list.

Yep - these are all going to be must haves for me :)
Nice release! Will definitely buy while it is still discounted. Seems to be a steal for $2.99.
Wishlisted. I know it's on sale but it will be again. I barely have much to spend on games so it's wait and see for now.

morciu: my mind isn't blown yet
And it's only the 7th, show some patience. :P

I don't expect that my mind will be blown though, lets see if GOG proves me wrong. XD

Between this and Avadon 2 (and the new rebooted Avernum 2 coming as well this year, I think), it's going to be a very good year for old-school small indie RPGs. I bought these for full price some time ago on the MacGameStore, but I have no problem rebuying them at these prices.

Yeah. These are good old school rpgs. That's for sure.
Meh, this doesn't really do it for me.
But still, a release is a release.
