Just how they used to make them.

Eschalon Book I, an old-school RPG with open world, isometric graphics, and classic gameplay mechanics, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the first week!

If you're an old-time computer role-playing fan, the chances are that you said the following at least once in your life: "They don't make cRPGs as they used to, nowadays". For the better part, you would be correct. Most of the modern role-playing games don't look nor play like their classic predecessors. It doesn't necessarily mean they're not as good, but they are--well--different. For all gamers disappointed by that state of things, here's a title custom-tailored to their nostalgic needs!

Eschalon Book I was developed by people who are old-time hardcore computer role-players themselves, and you can see it in every aspect of their brilliant game. With classic isometric graphics, traditional gameplay mechanics, a large open-ended world, tons of quests, and randomly generated loot, this game is everything you need to get into that nostalgic mood only a fantasy adventure can induce. Highly recommended to all cRPG gamers!

Prepare for a truly old-school and satisfying cRPG experience with Eschalon Book I, for only $2.99! That's 50% off the regular price until Tuesday, May 14, at 9:59AM GMT.
I know JACK SQUAT about this game or series. Donwloading the demo right now but is there anything, or any aspect of anything, that compares this title to other well known RPGs?

BTW Love small parties.
Don't love over done TBS/movent points ie Jagged Alliance and X-Com.

MadalinStroe: Who cares? What kind of question is that? I would say that it's obvious that SpiderFromMars cares. I also care because in the last 30 days we had Overlord and now Eschalon: Book 1&2 launched as classics. The classic release is losing all its meaning.
The classic release lost all meaning years ago when King's Bounty got released, that was a game from 2008, as opposed to Eschalon 1 from 2007. Keep in ming, King's Bounty was released when GoG was still officially standing for Good old Games.

So yeah, who cares? What qualifies as a classic game shift every year anyway, time is not standing still.

assassin33: Looks a bit like a Spiderweb Software game and the discount is nice as well, might give this a try.
Yep - I thought the Spiderweb Software similarities looked intriguing as well. Bought both.
I certainly recognize the name of the game, but know nothing else about it. If someone had said it is a RPG from Spiderweb, I would have believed them.

Consider this, and sequel, bought. Good thing they decided to put it to discount promo right away.

I grabbed the first game myself as I am enjoying Geneforge and I just got Avadon when it was on sale so I guess I will get to see just how similar they are.

I just played the demo and it reminds me of Geneforge A LOT, which is a good thing. What confuses me is that is seems so primitive for a game from '06. I'm not upset mind you because my pc is archaic but I was a little caught off guard by that. I'm going to go ahead and look for a EB2 demo. Normally I wouldn't bother given it's 2010 release but if it's as 'retro' as #1 might as well see.

dieselguy: How long until release promo is finished?

DrIstvaan: According to the game page, until 14 May, 9:59 AM GMT.
Whoops. Didn't see that over there, I missed it somehow, thank you :)

HiPhish: So yeah, who cares?
The people that still care. Just because you moved on doesn't mean everybody has. The way things are going I'm certain that the "classical" tag will be eventually removed, but it hasn't yet.
I may buy this, it looks kind of interesting.

I get paid on friday so if there isn't a good promo I will buy them both
I like you Phish, really, but you can be such a dickhead sometimes.

FYI both demos are readily available all over the web and they are pretty small and both offer a nice taste.

Ok I'll buy them both now before I forget to do it later. Old school RPG I hear. Well I'm so old school I haven't been to school for years so sounds like a win for me.
Ah. Patience pays off. I've seen this series elsewhere but thought it would make it to GoG eventually. Thanks!
Hmm, game looks wonderful! Never even knew about it! I will definately be supporting the developer (Basilisk games). I see a third game (to conclude the trilogy) is on the way. Looking forward to it. Man...I am such a sucker for isometric old school RPGs...

Yeah, I bought here Avernum before because I thought it is this game. :-)

Well, Book 2 is quite a bit more polished than Book 1 and has some nice improvements and new features, but graphically it's about the same. Both are worth playing through though.
