IronArcturus: But I wonder if UT99 needs a unique key to play online. Has anyone tried that out?
IIRC UT99 didn't have a serial to begin with. Last year I also played the GOG version online without having to do anything.

JMich: It shouldn't. Patch 436 removed the cd-key requirement from what I recall.
Huh, I don't remember ever entering a serial for my original disc version (and yes, I DO own an original retail copy :P).

Was it the disk check that was removed then? I recall 436 making it much easier to play the game.

I'm not completely sure but now that you mention it I *think* that the original version of the game required the CD and this was removed in later versions.

yep the original required/requires the cd to play, i still have the box and cds (although one disc is missing, wtf)

to those having a grumble about the freebie, think of me, i bought the original years ago for about 12.57 Euro (or 15.65 US Dollars) changed my pc and my O/S to windows XP a few weeks after buying it, then never could get it working again

tbh i'm just glad i got the freebie and that it works on my machine plus that it's multi-player (when others are online :)
