trusteft: That's not what I said. I am against clients. I said I hope GOG doesn't listen to the people who ask for a client like steam, because they risk listening to the same type of bad advice as the people suggesting the previous changes which were not received well by the majority of people here.
The just announced GOG Galaxy is their in-development new GOG client. It's completely optional as explained in the awesome video they provided (linked many times above), and pretty much answers any concerns one might have about such a client. Don't use it if you don't like clients, nobody ever has to use it. Anyone who doesn't want to use it and complains about it's existence is just being negative and hostile towards GOG for no actual good reason and just from pure irrational fear uncertainty and doubt. I say "get over it". :o) Or don't, either way the client is coming now for sure, confirmed and the overwhelming response on the GOG forum postings I've seen so far is more or less summarized by "woohoo, fucking awesome, holy shit I can't wait" drowning out any whining and complaining.

Yes...I know. Thanks.

yyahoo: That explains why they're removing Original War too?
avatar
skeletonbow: I'm not familiar with Original War, never heard of it. You could always call the game studio's 1-800 number and ask them though to avoid speculation.
So, after the conference, they not only did not promise a big wave of "new" classic games or new big publisher but also warned about removing them?

I miss the old conferences :-(

Since you are around, can you help me out with the answer to this?

If you download games through the GOG Galaxy Client, will it give you the option to just download the .exe files, so you can keep them for backup, or will it be like Steam, and install the game directly into your drive whether you prefer that or not?

Smannesman: Who?
I haven't actually finished any of the Witchers.
avatar
piwer: Dude, you should read the books. Seriously :)
Not all books had been released outside Poland.

Sacr3dus: It was to show Ciri and Yennefer ^^

Smannesman: Who?

In short: Yennefer is Geralds beloved one and Ciri is their adopted daughter. ...And let's call them both a total badasses. I won't spoil more, just read the books if you can ;)

K_1269: Quick question for the blues.

Went to the Witcher 3 preorder page and saw this in the FAQ:

"Will the content of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt differ between regions based on the age ratings?
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt doesn't have its official age ratings yet, as the game is still in production. The official age ratings will be annouced closer to the launch in February 2015"

Does that mean I could end up with a cut, german only version of the Witcher3 if I preorder it from you?
This I am also very interested in... I would be rather unhappy if I had to put up with some silly censorship crap.

Other than that I'm pretty hyped now! Digital or retail is the big question, but since the price for the CE in Germany doesn't even seem to be announced yet I guess I'll give it a couple of days...

Not out yet.
At this point everything that has not been said officially is just speculations.

Though no doubt, they will implement the feature you are asking for or so I believe.

The only information available is in the video provided today which is linked many times above. Anything else you'll have to ask someone from GOG.com and since it is in development still and not finished a lot can change and there are probably questions that have no solid answers yet. Since the client is optional however nobody ever has to use it for anything period, they made that quite clear. So people can pretend it doesn't exist and download games from the web page or GOG downloader as usual if they prefer to do so, or if the client doesn't give them the solution they're looking for. I'm sure they'll accept feature requests via support though too.
So no gog cards or Lucasarts?

GOG surely has to oblige to the law as everyone else. I don't think there is much risk because traditionally nudity is not a problem here. It would depend how many children you have to kill in order to win the game though. But what can GOG do? Nothing really. I actually hope that the creative vision of CDP artists does not involve too many extreme violence fantasies.

IAmSinistar: Oh, and I'm one of the folks who is looking forward to GOG Galaxy. Even though I'm not an online player, it sounds like it may have some useful functionality.
I'm not an online player either, but I like the achievements. The one thing I don't get is why you have to be online to unlock them? With Xbox 360 ( and what I remember from ps3) you don't have to be online to unlock them. So what happens if your internet has connection issues ? Do have to replay that part of the game or just chalk it up as a loss? This is a question for Gog.
Am I alone in finding it odd that GOG Galaxy shares the spotlight with The Witcher 3 pre-order? It makes it seem like the most significant addition to GOG in some time is just a footnote on the 8 month pre-order of an AAA title.

Really excited about Galaxy!

If GOG could now somehow fill the void left by Gamespy and keep good old multiplayer games alive, I think it would bring a lot of attention to the client in offering something Steam cannot.
With Apple's Game Center you do not have to be online to unlock achievements either, it seems likely/plausible that GOG would tie achievements to a local file stored on your computer so even if you're offline it would record the progress. However, that might make achievements more prone to hackling/manipulation.
