fronzelneekburm: Me three.

By the way, did any of you who signed up for the beta get any sort of confirmation mail?
They said it'll take a few days, so I wouldn't worry .

the dirty unshaven dude in the jeans and t-shirt .... was he dragged in from the homeless shelter to give this presentation ?

i would like to think that someone from GOG would dress a bit more professionally for a conference instead of disguising himself as a vagrant, or maybe that is the marketing plan somehow?

Normally, I wouldn't, but when I go to the goggalaxy-page, it still asks me whether I want to sign up, so that had me a little confused.

Rodzaju: I hope some kind soul will post the news as it happens.
I am at work so cannot watch :(
20% off for Witcher 3 pre-order, new client that can also be used for multiplayer, figurines for Witcher 3 and beta keys for Witcher Adventure card game, that you can sign up for here :

Maighstir: http://crowdtamers.com/about/about-trevor/marketing-maestro-for-hire has been mentioned a couple times already, but a quote from it:

This is worse news than yesterday's announcement of Bohemia pulling out of gog.

skeletonbow: This is just speculation as I don't think there has been any official story, but ArmA used Gamespy for online multiplayer and Gamespy got shut down completely so there is no more online multiplayer. They updated the game apparently to add Steam support to it to continue to have online multiplayer via Steam, but GOG games can't rely on Steam for online multiplayer so their options are to have a multiplayer game on Steam and a single player only version of the same game on GOG. That is not viable because even though some players only want single player, many want multiplayer and people can easily buy a game expecting it to be multiplayer without reading the fine details and end up pissed off when they find out it is single player only, but available somewhere else multiplayer and wonder why no multiplayer here.

So that leaves a game company few options really. One is to just port the multiplayer matchmaking to Steamworks which is relatively trivial and that's what almost all game companies are going to do because of the low cost and ease of doing it, and the fact that Steam is the largest gaming platform out there with the largest reach. To keep the game on GOG.com with multiplayer would require them to either convince GOG to allow a game to use Steamworks for multiplayer matchmaking which probably is a no-go for GOG and for GOG gamers, or they would have to go and reengineer their own multiplayer matchmaking service /just/ for GOG.com which is a huge expense for an old game just for a fraction of their game players in all business reality.

So it actually makes sense from a business perspective for them to remove the game for sale from GOG.com for the time being at least. With the announcement of GOG Galaxy however today, once that service is actually launched, perhaps we will see the ArmA series get updated to support GOG Galaxy for multiplayer as well, and that would also allow gamers on GOG to play with gamers on Steam without having to have Steam accounts.
That explains why they're removing Original War too?
Okay, I'm digging the new announced stuff. I won't even be able to play the new Witcher for a few years, but I'm still planning to order it.

My question is: How long is the pre-order period? Will we be able to pre-order it till right before it comes out?! Because I'm a bit low on dinero right now :D

The Galaxy announcement was pretty cool too. This was expected, but it's good to know something for sure nonetheless. And nobody's forced to use it, so everybody should be happy.
And this cross-platform feature sounds pretty good too. And we can add friends, yay!

The new adventure game...doesn't really interest me much, but yeah, why not?

Only thing I missed was an announce regarding a forum overhaul!! But I guess that will come at some point in the (hopefully near) future!!

GOG & CD Projekt RED, you guys rock! Keep this up!

I don't know dude. Some of us are having fun here in the 21st century. Feel free to join us.

That's a totally awesome Atari 2600 compatible trailer! LOL I'll have to watch that movie, hopefully there is an English dub of it though. Still, I think a modern Hollywood trilogy would be suitable. Directed by Peter Jackson or Sam Raimi preferably!

kellzap: Great announcements! Wild Hunt looks bad ass and I may be per-ordering it. But I'm even more excited for GOG Galaxy!!! I've downloaded and back up all of my games, and I would love to use it for easier organization. (Any dates for release?)

But, I'm extremely disappointed that there was no mention on GOG's endeavors with Linux, since we haven't heard anything about it since March.
avatar
Fallen_Zen: We're not forgetting Linux guys. We'll be giving more info later this year.
Galaxy is being done with PC, Mac and Linux in mind.
No "no Wine tweaks required anymore" installer for the DOSBox games in the meantime? :(

Just added this post to the increasing common question about the Collector's Edition and the GOG.com pre-order.

Licurg: Probably a bug, I'm sure blue can answer better than I .
Never mind, I tried signing up again and it said "It appears this e-mail has already been entered.", so I guess I'm in the clear. Looking forward to the beta!
So when will GOG galaxy come? Was there a release date or estimated release date given?
Amazon.de preorder: STILL FAIL.
avatar
Wishbone: So, as someone who only caught the very end of the conference, I have to ask: What the hell is Galaxy? An optional DRM free multiplayer client is the impression I get, is that accurate? And is there a reason that the URL exists (they did say "come join us at gog.com/galaxy), but only shows the normal GOG.com front page?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyYW9AOWh-8

The http://www.gog.com/galaxy link works sometimes and doesn't work other times for some reason. One of their servers might be out of sync or something, I've had it do that a few times. The youtube video above is the direct link to the video though.

One thing to note: my first few attempts to sign-up for the beta were apparently failed. It was not until the last attempt that i saw confirmation text (a small bit seen just after entering email and clicking go). The previous attempts did not show that confirmation text, but everything else about the page was the same. -so it may be very easy for one to think they have signed up, when in fact they had not.

*On the Galaxy page, i still can't view the "Discover our vision" video. i click where would be appropriate, but nothing happens. Using FireFox. -i figure this news is new, so servers might be overtaxed, and not all the parts may be in place. So i'll check back, and perhaps it'll show in my youtub playlist.
