Are you Strogg enough to survive?

<span class="bold">Quake IV</span> is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 75% launch discount.
The fourth chapter in the legendary FPS series takes the fight to planet Stroggos, home of galaxy's ugliest cybernetic meanies. When things go sideways you must rely on your big guns, armored vehicles, and fellow marines to survive this desperate mission but nerves of steel might help, too.

Feeling nostalgic or just awfully trigger-happy? Check out our <span class="bold">Bethesda shooters</span> sale.
The 75% discount will last until August 28, 1 PM UTC.
Jep, i guess the uncensored version isn't available in Germany. It has nothing to do with gog.com.
I've been lickin' my chops for Quake IV ever since Quake III Gold hit GOG. I know Quake IV's multiplayer can't hold a Bic lighter to Quake III, but its single player is pure awesome. Hell, I actually like Quake IV's single player campaign more than Quake II's.

hollunder: So either GOG provides us with keys or we'll have to resort to illegal methods to get a legally purchased game working.
You can also try to get an pre-owned original CD + key legally.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't blame GOG that you can't use an old Linux port with the Windows version you bought here. If anyone, blame id software who gave the (probably unofficial) Linux port a CD key check and didn't remove it later.

Turbotobi: GOG wouldn´t earn my money for a DRM free backup version.
As it was explained here before, you can thank the German legislators for that (and as a German yourself, maybe remember it in the upcoming Bundestag election). The only thing you can reproach GOG with is that they have no age verification for games that have either no or an adult age rating from the USK that became mandatory in 2003 by the amendment of the Jugendschutzgesetz and its supplementary Jugendmedienschutz-Staatsvertrag.

edit: Removed Wikipedia links because the forum software didn't like them. I want a preview function. :/

A preview function is built into Adalia Fundamentals, which I highly recommend. https://www.gog.com/forum/general/adalia_fundamentals_fixing_gog_so_you_dont_have_to/page1 While you're at it, check out Barefoot Essentials, as well. https://www.gog.com/forum/general/barefoot_essentials_2_gogcom_enhancement/page1

So I had a short look at a video of the gameplay and I have one question:

Is the game just running around indoors?

I think there's a couple of train rides.
No, there are outdoor sections and vehicle sections as well.
Whatever, I guess I will empty my wallet leaving a few pennies in it, except we have cents now. I hope it is worth it.

And bought, I totally forgot I would get the two old Elder Scrolls games as a bonus.

Thanks to Smannesman and Guter!

Thanks, I'll look into that.

mike_cesara: Great to have the game here. Would be even greater if we could get a cd-key to make the game work properly under Linux : )

Quake IV runs absolutely fine on Debian, needs a cd-key though..

eiii: So in the opposite to Quake 1 and 2 there's no way to use the GOG version to play Quake 4 native on Linux?
What a pity! I just was about to buy it...
Well, the linux client should work, GOG just doesn't provide a key at this time. I hope they will do so. I've contacted support.
Here is the relevant forum thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/quake_series/quake_4_on_linux_no_cd_key
For fucks sake, I get it that it is not GOG who decides whether a game is available for a certain group of gamers, let's say... gamers in Germany, or not. But in case a game is not availabe for german gamers, then showing the promo for said game to us germans and then, when we click at it, simply redirect us to a general list of games is careless and actually kind of mean.

Is it really SO difficult to hide that promo from german customers?

If i needed a "nanny" i'd vote for Merkel. Now even assholes overseas decide what i am allowed to?
For sure the last time i bought a game on GOG.

Lifthrasil: Of course not available in Germany. Stupid German storefront!
GOG sind einfach ein Haufen Arschlöcher. Ein online Shop mit Sitz im Ausland will mich bevormunden. Offenbar in vorauseilendem Gehorsam. Ich kauf hier nichts mehr!

A German calling Polish assholes? Ahahaha... WUT?!

Seriously, though... Is it not possible to change the German law about violent games?

GOG has two offices: Nicosia in Cyprus and Warsaw in Poland. Although you might call Cyprus "overseas" as seen from Germany since it's located in the Mediterranean Sea, but I think you just didn't know or researched where GOG resides.

To repeat myself, German laws are not GOG's fault, but they must obey them if they maintain a German storefront. If you want to educate yourself about this, look up the verdicts of LG Karlsruhe from 16.12.2011 file number O 27/11 KfH III, and OLG Hamm from 17.12.2013 file number I-4 U 100/13.

(If anyone knows of newer verdicts in this matter that I missed, feel free to post them.)
