AngryAlien: For fucks sake, I get it that it is not GOG who decides whether a game is available for a certain group of gamers, let's say... gamers in Germany, or not. But in case a game is not availabe for german gamers, then showing the promo for said game to us germans and then, when we click at it, simply redirect us to a general list of games is careless and actually kind of mean.

Is it really SO difficult to hide that promo from german customers?
If you're running the page in English, try switching the language to German.

Themken: I compared file sizes and I am afraid it is the larger bin file that is afflicted :-( so it is either a 2.8GB download or you can tick the (do not know exact wording) 'No thanks, I do not want the awesome Galaxy client installed' during installation.
avatar
Bodgeit: Thank you Themkem, I have just had a look at the bin & it is bigger by what seems to be 100mb(0.1 gb). Will re-download it one day, not in to much of a rush to do so though, at the moment :).

All my other games are set to Classic Installers by default, never had to change a thing before, so easy to get caught out with this, if you aren't looking properly.
The GOG.com downloader automatically downloads the classic installers. I find it's much easier to just click the downloader link than to have to remember to click the "more" button, followed by "classic installers", followed by each individual file.
When appears Quake 4 on GOG?

I have the original Retail box in the closet. I would like have the NoCD Version from Gog.
The original disc version doesn't like windows 7 either.

edit: Managed to get it working so maybe it does work ok but it needed config settings changed to get the graphics working properly.

It's here already. But invisible for customers rooted in Germany ... ;-)

In case anyone missed the sale by GOG and is using a Mac, it's $4.99 USD on MacGameStore. The game is DRM-free.

If the game doesn't run after installation try running the game via Spotlight instead of the MacGameStore app. When setting graphics options run the window at 16:9 and 720p to keep the game itself from crashing. I had set the resolution to 1440p to test it and when relaunching the game the game window would show for a split-second before crashing to desktop; clicking anywhere in the window before it crashes should allow it to stay while you go in and lower the resolutions.

This happeneded while playing on a 27" 2013 4th-gen Haswell iMac with a GTX 780M, so YMMV.

Note: the MGS release is the 2012 version ported over by Aspyr Media.

You have the extremly censored German store version. But here at GOG they sell the uncensored version which is banned in Germany and therefore you cant see it in the store. See here for more infos: http://ogdb.eu/index.php?section=title&titleid=4398

WebJunkie: So, is Quake 4 on GOG censored in anyway?
avatar
Berzerk2002: It is uncensored.
Thanks, read that something was censored, not sure what though!

I am running the page in German.

As it was explained here before, you can thank the German legislators for that (and as a German yourself, maybe remember it in the upcoming Bundestag election). The only thing you can reproach GOG with is that they have no age verification for games that have either no or an adult age rating from the USK that became mandatory in 2003 by the amendment of the Jugendschutzgesetz and its supplementary Jugendmedienschutz-Staatsvertrag.

When you pay with normal creditcard here in germany you must be 18+ jears old.

So when I pay with my creditcard here at GOG, they can be really shure, that I´m more then 18 years old.

The Nazi-problems here are annoying enough, so we didn´t need the state for that %$%&%§$%,
I´m 48 years old and I play such games since I´m 16 and I´m a very peaceful person and didn´t
harm anybody in my life.

Normal keyshops like MMOGA or G2A or Kinguin and so on are selling 18+ keys without any problems,
but normally I want to support GOG before the keyshops would earn my money.

Just MY 2 cents.

What if your kid pays with your credit card? Is your kid over 18 years old or not? And how do you check that without checking an ID?

G2A and Kinguin are not normal keyshops. They are the guy selling stuff off the trunk of his car. Some might be legit, some might not be, and you'll most likely never see that same guy again.

G2A isn't a normal shop. They sell bogus and stolen codes.

I don't know about the others.
One more reason for GOG to install a verification for older people like me!

@JMich, I see it on the bill and my childs are old enough for themselves and have no chance to use my card.(pin)

And if I have a chance to get a key in a keyshop, I will use it, better a "wild" key than no game.

I have a good distributor in the past which organizes US Games for me, but actually there´s no need
anymore to buy a box, when you can buy a key for Steam/Uplay/Orgin whatelse.

If I can buy a GOG key in a keyshop, I would do it, but I would prefer GOG first. (But they won´t)

I'm with you in that.

That's your choice, but comparing shady key resellers to an authorized shop like GOG is unfair in my eyes. Playing by the rules requires more effort, time, and money. Non-authorized keys can also hurt the developers who made the games you like and surely want to keep getting in the future, since many buyers of such keys nonetheless expect technical support. Your presumably hard-earned money, however, could land in the pockets of fraudsters somewhere on the key's trip (often around the world) from its original source to you.

Two very detailed articles about the grey key market and its possible repercussions:

gameBee: Sind Key Shops legal? (German)

Polygon: The truth behind those mysteriously cheap gray market game codes (English)

Again, it's your choice, but it should be an informed one. If you already knew all that, maybe someone who didn't will find this helpful. Cheers.
