In space no one can hear you squeal.

Dead Space, the first member in the engrossing space horror/survival saga, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 60% launch discount.

Grotesque nightmares are shambling, writhing, and twitching towards you from every direction. Pockets of zero gravity, which fundamentally upsets the rules of engagement, threaten to throw you off-balance. Devious puzzles only a mechanic with installed Kinesis and Stasis modules could solve, challenge your feverish mind. Welcome aboard the USG Ishimura, a "planetcracker" starship crawling with Necromorphs, a twisted lifeform spawned under the influence of a sinister alien artifact. Made from reassembled limbs of dead organisms, the best way to dispose of them is to dismember them back with your plasma cutter, then stomp on their gross remains to make sure they stay down. But what of the voices tormenting you from beyond the borders of sanity? Will you manage to amputate them too or will you end up just another lost soul, drifting across the void of Dead Space?

Dismember scores of twitching Necromorphs and face the perverse horrors lurking in Dead Space, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 60% launch discount will last until July 21, 12:59 PM UTC.

What's the deal with the Spotify widget?
I love this game so much. I've played through it at least three times.

The over-abundance of jump-scares is disappointing, but there is still a lot of good ol' fashion dread and tension.
Holy mother of necromorph!! SOLD!

IronArcturus: Has anyone tried it with an Xbox 360 controller yet?
Yes. It works fine.
Fantastic.
Call me again when you fix the price, GOG.
Oh hell yes! Looks like I ordered a new graphics card just in time. Love this game, hope my PC can do it justice.
Looks a little too intense for me, so I'll pass. Still, it's great to see this game on GOG.
Wow. Really didn't see this coming from EA. I wish they somehow would with GoG team to bring Original Most Wanted and Underground NFS titles to this service DRM-Free. I would insta buy them!

Other than that, keep it the good work guys.

A new graphics card for a 2008 game? Makes totally sense! =P

mistermumbles: It's the same base price as on Steam and Origin. In dollars it is, at least.

angel_hellsing: In Steam the prize for Dead Space is 9.99€, in Origin it's 7.99€ and here it's 19.99€ without sale.

The both games in Steam are 19.99€
Well, it's still no difference for US users because both games go for $20 on Steam and $35 in the double pack here. *shrug*

It does considering my basic PC only has onboard graphics at the moment. :)

Though I had already ordered it for stuff like The Witcher and the new System Shock and such.

Over time the sales of games eventually drop to the point they're not making a tonne of money any more and companies look for new ways to increase sales. Even being a DRM favouring company, eventually once the DRM encumbered sales of a game have tanked out there will always be a possibility that such companies weigh their perceived pros and cons of DRM and decide that at that point in time the profits to be made from pro-DRM-free gamers will outweigh their perceived losses from piracy and maybe even stem piracy to some degree, so they'll throw us a bone every now and then out of their back catalogue.

Don't get me wrong, it is awesome to get such treats but it's not generally a sign that a company is turning their stance on DRM and becoming all DRM-free happy. It's much more likely that for the individual games themselves, they reached a tipping point where the projected benefits of a DRM-free release outweighed the close-to-heart-held pro-DRM stance on sales.

Very happy to see one of my least liked companies releasing some of their great titles here. Even though I wont buy DRM encumbered games from them anywhere, I certainly welcome them here and will buy their games DRM-free here to show them that this is the way to go. Wishlisted all 3 games for future.

These were all unconfirmed rumours previously based on accidental GOG support web page leaks, nice to see they all came true. I wonder how many of the other big name games (Mirror's Edge, Oblivion, etc.) we'll see actually come to fruition here in the future. Hopefully all-of-em... :)
I'm really, really, REALLY looking forward to playing this! This was one of those games where the online activation DRM bummed me out the most (along with Bioshock, Mirror's Edge, Half-Life 2 and the Ghostbusters game) because I wanted to play the game so badly. Hopefully it lives up to the hype (Bioshock didn't). Can't wait for Mirror's Edge to follow suit. Maybe GOG can convince someone at Atari to release Ghostbusters here as well.
so this is a good shooter?
