Magmarock: I'm surprised I haven't seen this bought up before. I've read a few threads and posts that have turned unpleasant from from users that abuse, harass and even bully other users at times. So I've made a wish list for forum moderation. You can vote for it here. http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/moderate_the_forums

I'm not going to name anyone or post links to any threads in particular. Also yes I am fully aware from those who know that that I myself would probably be guilty of breaking a few rules here and there. Still I believe good moderation helps.
It's been brought up before and people just aren't interested. Sorry :-\

tinyE: I would encourage this for anyone that hates me because the second moderators show up I'm out of here.
Where do I sign? :P

awalterj: I can understand your sentiment but imho it's very easy to avoid threads like that. Very often, you can quite accurately guess from the thread title alone whether the content of the thread will have hostilities and posts that might upset you. Reading and participating are entirely voluntary. And getting upset is also voluntary. There are plenty of awesome threads where you are guaranteed to encounter no toxic elements whatsoever. Example: Draw and Guess the Game.
Well, how about a "General 'Fuck you, you worthless piece of shit'-Discussions" sub forum then?

No, sorry, I don't think avoiding threads where people are likely to insult each other is the solution. A new TET (someone telling people to calm down once in a while) is.

Regarding the giveaways:
While I stopped doing any new giveaways (because there are just too many people hopping from giveaway to giveaway), I don't think that they're the problem here. What's happening in the scammers thread is only partially related to "leeches, lurkers and scammers" (and the witch hunting is done by regulars). The people from the Gamergate thread aren't your typical giveaway crowd. The stuff in the TotalBiscuit thread was started by long-time members with high rep. And I haven't seen fr33kSh0w2012 and monkeydelarge lurking giveaways either. But what they did in the death threat thread would've resulted in an immediate perma ban on every other forum I've ever seen.

And then there's this problem where some people (and I guess they're no "code grabbers") use the "report spam" button to delete threads and postings they don't like (recent example). So, instead of moderators we have a user police who deletes harmless threads they don't like and leaves harassment and insults untouched. Great!

No, this is no giveaway related problem... What's happening here is that no one fucking cares what users do here anymore. TheEnigmatic-"We Don't want to moderate, so please keep it civil"-T had an eye on the forums and stepped in when it was necessary (and this seemed to be sufficient). Now that he's gone, we have no moderation at all. And what happens? Higher rep, long-time members start to go postal (which reminds me of the Hatred thread -.-).

I should've just used poll monkey or something.
MODS YOU NEED TO STOP IGNORING THIS.

IT IS NO LONGER ABOUT TRADING AND GIFTING AND LEECHING.

THIS IS ABOUT HARASSING USERS WITH PORN, VULGAR LANGUAGE AND WORST OF ALL, DEATH THREATS.

DO SOMETHING, GODDAMNIT, UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE USERS.

YOU WOULD NOT BE WHERE YOU ARE TODAY WITHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

Well that's worth a +1 ^_^
I'd also say you need to look at the serial derailers...
For me, the forums I've frequented over the years always starts with someone being nice to me as a new user.
I look at these forums and its seems nowadays many people are just outright rude to anyone asking a question.
Yes, maybe they are posting it in general because they couldn't find the game forum, but so what?
They don't deserve to be called idiots for not finding the Witcher 3 forum or to get toyed with by people pretending not to know what game they are talking about. How would you feel if someone did that to you?

These are potentially good people who could join our community, instead, these cruel posts if anything just encourages more cruel people to stay in our forums to be cruel to the next new guy.

If you want to be mean to anyone new to your forums, guess what? Soon you will have no new blood and the ones who stay aren't an asset...
i think i'm going to leave the forum. i have better things to do than being some sort of ersatz-mod and letting assholes insult me.

Now he's threatening to DDOS me.

JudasIscariot ?
Even lightly moderated forums usually have moderators who can move threads to the appropriate sub-forums and ban the total idiots. Its sad, but I'm pretty sure Steam forums have better moderation...
Someone just start an uprate thread. Whenever someone talks about having low rep, they're told its not important. So if its that unimportant, I say commercialize it. Someone start a new topic where people with 6 months or longer history can refresh their rep!
i'm not afraid you idiot. you can only get yourself in trouble.
