ryan_sm99: It might also be better if people stopped marking all the posts as spam and deleting them all the time. If we allow the forum to get full of this crap then maybe GOG will take more notice. I doubt some new customers would want to stick around after seeing such insults, homophobia, porn, person attacks, etc. on the forum. If GOG loses a few customers, and thus loses money, maybe they will start to try to help fix the problem. All people are doing by marking them as spam is covering up any evidence we have to report to the Blues and show the kind of forum this place is becoming. Why should the users keep covering and helping GOG if GOG does not want to help their customers. Just a though.

What we need is Ricky, he would fix this place up. :-)
Ummm, the Ricky I'm looking for is not a he.

Acriz: That's kinda ironic about those mods. People having a nice discussion going off on bigger or smaller tangents and then mods coming in and berating everyone, effectively disrupting the discussion.
avatar
gunsynd: And if a mod got banned for being unfair or whatever, how would their credibility look?
It would make them look terrible, that's why something like that rarely happens, when at all, even though there are tons of ban-worthy mods out there abusing their authority.

Well,it needs to be implemented that way or else no mods.
Slightly off-topic, but why do so many people quote giant walls of text to type out a sentence or two? It's not hard to delete parts of the quote that aren't relevant ;_;

Not saying it's ban-worthy, mind... [url= I feel like that counts as "explaining the joke" which makes me sad that I can't figure a better way to write it out :/ ][/url]

Why does that appear when replying to your post? Failed link?
Umm,better get this leprosy seen too.

Acriz: Why does that appear when replying to your post? Failed link?
Intentional.

[url= Main post covers whatever I think I should be saying, but then sometimes for clarification - or just because I want to go off-topic or be silly - I may add in additional stuff in a URL tag. If you don't care what I'm saying, why should I take up more screen space? If you care enough to perhaps reply, then it's there to be considered or ignored, at your leisure. ][/url]

Interesting approach.
[url= With that you can have whole conversations in secret. Ingenious!][/url]

gunsynd: How do you know it was a guy?
He sent an email saying he was a guy, no question asked, i deleted the email so no proof.

There you go.

real.geizterfahr: I slowly start to agree... GOG needs some irate mod to stop stuff like it's happening in the known scammers, I got a death threaf, Gamergate News and TotalBiscuit Recommends threads.
I can understand your sentiment but imho it's very easy to avoid threads like that. Very often, you can quite accurately guess from the thread title alone whether the content of the thread will have hostilities and posts that might upset you. Reading and participating are entirely voluntary. And getting upset is also voluntary. There are plenty of awesome threads where you are guaranteed to encounter no toxic elements whatsoever. Example: Draw and Guess the Game.

tinyE: While I am reluctantly starting to warm to this idea, I want privilege, or to be more concise, I want mods with a knowledge of the regs and a SENSE OF HUMOR!

Keeping those you mentioned out is all well and good but I don't want some asshole mod who doesn't know the lay of the land tossing bans out to people like me for being a smartass, or Sachys for mentioning sausages, or, well all of us, for mentioning Ricky. Every once in a while some noob will show up and see a running joke taken out of context and insist that the poster is a spammer or a troll. God forbid they give absolute power to someone without a sarcasm detector; the fucking forum would have three people left in it by the end of the first day. :P
There's a point in that, I agree that a sarcasm detector would be a requirement - not just for mods but for anyone coming even remotely close to the internet. How about implementing a short quiz before the forum can be entered, you know a few pop-up questions where you have to select whether it's sarcastic or not (a sarcasm captcha, so to speak).

Example question:

"If you don't buy Sacrifice within 3 months of being a GOG member, Licurg will eat your children"

A) It's sarcasm
B) It's meant for realz!
C) If you don't have children, he'll eat you.
D) Licurg is a vegetarian, duh

On the other hand, your post sounds like you want a fool's license for yourself (but not for everyone or anyone). Imagine the horror, an officially licensed tinyE... Next thing you know, there's a tinyE figurine in every Happy Meal, and so on. Release the Kraken?

Elmofongo: And my goodness the GamerGate thread. How much can people talk about this topic its almost infinate to the point that I think people are just pulling "related" topics out of nothing.
I think it's good that there is a specific thread for that topic. That way, anyone interested in participating can do so and anyone who isn't interested in participating can easily ignore the topic, as most of the discussions regarding the topic will be contained to that thread - which you don't have to read. A solution that imho works ok for everyone.

Cyraxpt: Better yet, what was the name of that guy that was leaking gog's games to pirate bay? I want to search for that thread and see what happened to him.

gunsynd: How do you know it was a guy?
It's not a guy, unless there's a guy out there named Sarah116. I've seen them on PB and usually they're always posted by someone with the user name sarah116. Could be a dude pretending to be a chick, I guess.
