IMPORTANT: Please read before posting This topic has been provided to discuss the latest releases of our Downloader (for both Mac and Windows systems) and to submit bug reports. The stable releases (recommended for most users) can be found at this address:http://www.gog.com/downloader.

Latest version:

Mac OS X - 1.2 (build 512)
Windows - 3.6.0

Both Downloaders now have the option of sending Error Reports directly to us (this can be found in app under Settings).

Just tried the downloader for the first time, and it doesn't even seem to want to start. I'd like to try it, but if not, I'll download manually until a day when this is fixed.

.NET is up to date, so is everything else on the pc. The strange thing is that this seems to be font related somehow.

Version 3.4.8 stable

feya: I bought Neighbours from hell compilation yesterday but until now I was not able to download it. I tried to download it with windows installer but after almost whole day of waiting for it to finish downloading it says it is corrupted when I tried to run the file. I already downloaded the gog .com but it is not giving any option to add the file. I attached the screenshot. I hope somebody can help me on this issue.

Szulak: 1. Go to the https://secure.gog.com/account/games#open=neighbours+from+hell+compilation

2. Make sure the GOG Downloader mode is turned on - http://i.imgur.com/ZEd1XPw.png

3. Press the Windows installer button, it should add a game to the queue.
I already did the instruction above but the problem is it is already 354.53MB out of 355.96MB but it is not moving since 3 hours ago..this is quite frustrating now...

You must disable "Windows Presentation Font Cache" Windows service. Hit Ctrl + R, type "services.msc" and enter.
Scroll down to the "Windows Presentation Font Cache", right click on it and in the startup type set "Disabled". Also, if the service is running, stop it.

I have checked your log file, and there are some minor errors. I already fixed it. The next version of the GOG Downloader shouldn't have such issues.

As I could see there was some net connection problems. The "download going backwards" means, that the GOG Downloader downloaded a chunk, but it doesn't matche the checksum.
In other words, the downloaded part of file is broken - thus, it removes incorrectly downloaded chunk and sets the progress bar back.

Tried that, same error in the log. I even tried disabling "Windows Font Cache Service" and it didn't change anything.

I'll try again when the downloader is updated. For now, I've manually downloaded my games, so I'm good for the moment. Thanks!
I'm afraid that doesn't ring true, though. See, when the downloader progress bar went backwards, the actual file on disc did not shrink, and in fact kept on growing (albeit slowly).

Also, at some point, the downloader progress bar went to 100% full whilst it was still only partly downloaded.

I then proceeded to just watch the file on disc grow until it reached full size, at which point the downloader changed to show completed.

If there were indeed broken parts of the download, it would have had to have downloaded in total more than the installer size due to redownloading parts, but it didn't have to do this.

If the chunk is broken, it will not be shrank. The Downloader will overwrite broken chunk with the new one. Moreover, the progress bar usually shows different progress of download (while the file size might shows another).

For example, the GOG Downloader might shows 50 MB from 100 MB, while the file size might be 90MB. It happens due to the multi threaded downloads (one downloader thread might start at 10 MB, another one at 80MB) - the windows explorer will shows it as 80 MB file.

Here is a image how it looks like in real:
http://www.linuxjournal.com/files/linuxjournal.com/linuxjournal/articles/063/6334/6334f1.jpg

As you can see, there are some data in the different places in file. Anyway, the windows explorer will show this file as it has 208 (0xD0) bytes (where in real, there are around 20 bytes).
I've just noticed a bug.

When downloading a file that's had its contents changed but the filename is the same the downloader will act as though the previously downloaded file is valid but during installation the file will fail its integrity check.

I bleieve this last happened to me with NWN Diamond edition with file setup_nwn_diamond_2.0.0.15-1.bin though there were others.
Hrm, it just happened again with Heroes of Might and Magic 4 Complete.

When I downloaded it the first time it scanned the already existing file and downloaded a small amount of data to it.
When I moved the file and re-downloaded it, it's a different size and checksum even though it's the same filename.

Yes, the digital signature is valid on the second download (the first doesn't have one)

Szulak: If the chunk is broken, it will not be shrank.

As you can see, there are some data in the different places in file. Anyway, the windows explorer will show this file as it has 208 (0xD0) bytes (where in real, there are around 20 bytes).
How large are the chunks of data?

What I was seeing was the progress bar steadily increased. I noticed it around 70MB then watched some TV, then looked back and it was down to 50MB and had started increasing again. A little while later, after it had been increasing it then dropped a few MB, then dropped again, then dropped continuously until it was down to 0MB. But as my file size was still going up I ignored it. Shortly after the downloader then said it was 486MB done (the entire file) but not completed, and the filesize steadily increased until it reached 486MB, then the downloader said it was completed.

I know I have a bit of an iffy connection right now (ADSL and wi-fi range problems) and it isn't that fast at present (1.6Mbit even though I should be getting more like 2.5Mbit) but I really don't think from my net usage that I redownloaded much of the file at all, even though the downloader progress bar dropping suggests I had to redownload at least 70MB.

korell: How large are the chunks of data?
Normally data is downloaded in 10MB chunks (per thread) with some exceptions like The Witcher games (chunks are 50MB).
