real.geizterfahr: 3.3 Your GOG account and GOG content are personal to you. You can gift GOG games and GOG videos to other people (up to a limit of 5 per day and provided the recipient doesn’t already own the GOG game/video being gifted) however this might differ on a case by case basis, but you can't sell them or charge money for them.
avatar
moonshineshadow: The wording is really confusing, but I already tested it. It just limits you to buy a maximum of 5 times a gift copy of a game per day (if it is not bugged). You can still buy other games as gift copies and normally on after 24h you can buy more gift copies of the game.
It does not limit the giving of gifts, just the buying.

(If they did not change this in the last two months)
That's absurd, don't they know how much gift people buy in sales promotion like Insomnia, Winter / Summer / Christmas sales?

They know, but apparently it is better to have this solution to hinder keysellers... And they are arguing that it should be fine since you can buy every game on the catalogue five times every day...
You can imagine how thrilled I was when I went on a gifting spree for a certain newly released game and was then blocked... and the system did not even work correctly... there was a bug, they needed three days to find the bug and unlock me for buying that game again...

real.geizterfahr: Yours! Just keep point 3.3 of GOG's user agreement in mind:

I don't know how this works, so... If you can't redeem Death to Spies, just give it another try tomorrow.

Still available:
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Star Wolves
It worked fine. Thank you for your kindness! :)

Hey that, Amnesia the dark descent still available?

I didn't realize that they have add the linux versions. I guess some kind of optional notification for specific platforms when a new "release" happened would be cool.

Check chat.

Star Wolves is the last one (Alone in the Dark is waiting for marsrunner's response).

Aningan: I'm ok with most of it. Except the excessive amount of bitching. I'm not ok with that.

real.geizterfahr: This! GOG forums took a horrible route recently... I'm not a friend of pointless Steam comparisons, but General Discussion feels more and more like Steam Community, which I NEVER use (even if have a Steam related question) because it's full of butthurt idiots.

I just wanted to find this weekend's promo thread and ask if Wasteland 2 is a good game. On my way to this thread I clicked a couple of other threads and found nothing but idiots (worst example is this one) and countless threads with bitching (people rage quitting GOG because of the shelf view, people throwing around "You're gonna sued for false advertisement" crap because of speculated Witcher 3 graphic downgrades, etc.). Everyone's in full doomsday mode... And this after we got Warner, Disney/Lucas, Star Trek and a hand full of not so old AAA games (stuff that was impossible to get for GOG) DRM free. The games are what matters and GO's been doing an awesome job with some releases this year. But people throw shit (complain and criticize all you want, but keep it civil, reasonable and don't be aggressive towards everyone who doesn't share your opinion!) because of the game shelf... No, now I don't want to ask stuff about Wasteland 2 anymore -.-

Too much is too much. This place isn't fun anymore. I'm out of here for a couple of weeks/months until everyone's calmed down a bit... or leave for good if the bitching won't stop. Maybe Magmarock was right and we need some "modiration" ;P
I agree with you on the bitchin' and all. I don't like Steam mostly because of its *community*.

Seems to me the mellow *GOG-feel* on this forum is evaporating... Hence hesitation posting is next...

(Asking *silly* questions or making remarks that don't fit the mainstream opinion will easily get you bashed).

NOW, about Wasteland 2: I liked the game a lot. Dense storytelling; packed with content. Gritty atmosphere. Graphics are good, though not state of the art. A lot of playtime but I never got bored. After playing X-Com I felt the fights could use a little improvement on the tactical elements, nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised.

I payed full price; if it is on sale I would say go get it...

Well I tried to buy more gift through the website but failed. I had to resort using galaxy to buy gift. I donno if that gift limit cause that.
Just thought I'd post something here.

I have only been on GOG for a short time (I guess I'm one of those "noobs") this is my first post on the forums.

I must say I am impressed. I have always despised registration codes on games and what not. This, among other reasons, is why I gravitated to consoles for gaming.

I came across this site while looking to purchase Neverwinter Nights. I could not for the life of me find it anywhere, so my google search lead me here.

I was worried there would be difficulty with installation, but I did not have a problem. I experienced a couple of crashes in game, but that can be expected.

Since my purchase of NWN I have bought a pile of other games I've missed out on, due to console gaming. GOG is the reason I'm playing PC games again, and I couldn't be happier. For the first time in well, forever, I am more than happy to throw my money into something. GOG has my full support and I will continue to buy games from here.

I despise Steam, Origin, and other such programs. I am holding off on downloading this GOG Galaxy client, for now..

Anyway, just thought I'd add this to the mix, for positivity's sake. Complaining is the way of the world these days, but I have none here.

Welcome and enjoy your stay.

But be warned, keep a tight lookout for your wallet. I am like you and so happy with GoG that I buy games I unlikely play during sales because it is cheap, want to support GOG and feel I own the games unlike steam rental.

Then my backlog grew to 800+

BreOl72: Sorry for the slight derailing, but since this is about the new GOG/shelf/etc., I think I might even ask here:

Yesterday my account showed a total of 706 games, today it shows 709.

Isn't the unbundling done already, or is anyone aware of other reasons for such a change in numbers?

Thanks in Advance for any helpful answer.
Do you have Alone in the Dark 1-3? Because we unbundled that not too long ago :)

Aside Alone in the Dark that Judas already mentioned, this might have been either Shadow Warrior (2013) split into DX9 and DX11 versions, or Dark Forces 2 split into the base game and the expansion.

It would be cool, yes. The current changelog and notification system work fine for the games you already own, but that's all. Some people don't buy games they want because they're not supported for this OS or are not available in that language, so it would be convenient to notify somehow about this kind of changes.
After thinking about it for a while, I will have to side with the OP on this one.

I still don't like the removal of manual sorting, nor do I like the new look of the shelf compared to the old one, but functionality/content is indeed the most important part. My installers are still DRM free and fully funmctional, and GOG has been on a roll lately, as far as new releases are concerned. (I mean for example, we've got to appreciate the fact that Disney, of all companies, decided to come here and release some classic LucasArts games DRM free, something that GOGgers were wishing for since day one!)

As for Galaxy.... well, as far as I know GOG has been keeping it optional. (at least I can manage my friend invites from the website with the new account system, so I'm satisfied) I'd still like some of the functionalities from the old PM system to be restored in the new chat system though, such as the text box getting bigger when you write lengthly messages, clear conversations, etc.

So yeah, definitely not going to abandon GOG over these changes. If other people want to abandon GOG, fine, they can shop wherever they want. Personally I find these changes much easier to roll with than, say, GOG adding DRM, or forcing the Galaxy client upon us and making it non-optional. As long as those negative things don't happen, I'll stay.
