Please regain your sanity, before doing such thing..

As for all the fuckwits here I certainly hope nothing but bad luck dogs your footsteps.

Sure is:-)

hedwards: They can't be 100% certain, but there's numerous ways in which they can make it less convenient.
avatar
Tarnicus: None of which are remotely effective. It takes minimal effort or even computer knowledge other than "use a search engine" to figure out how to circumvent anything GOG could do. The closest I could think of is to enforce identity verification, and that would create an absolute shitstorm and is still easily circumvented by using another person's identity.

Maybe retina scanning via webcam? Bugger I'm stuffed then as I don't have a webcam, not to mention that it is discriminatory towards those without retinas! :P
Reminds me of an XKCD panel. Honestly, you sound like that guy who thinks that a lot of crypto will prevent people from getting into their files when a $5 wrench would do the trick.

Other fora with rep don't have these problems to anywhere near the extent that I'm seeing here.

I'm not sure I follow your correlation re "you sound like..."? You stated that that GOG could make it less convenient to create multiple accounts and I disagreed without going to some extreme that would ultimately be detrimental to GOG's business(and inserted a joke about retina scanning).

Other forums probably don't have the problems anywhere near to the extent seen on GOG as I've yet to see a forum with the generosity exhibited here, which is a major cause of rep discussions and issues. I cannot think of a single time where rep has ever been an issue except for the following:

1/ Requirement for giveaways
2/ Determines order of trading
3/ People get upset when it is lowered (I've been in that camp so not casting dispersions here)

None of those affect people's ability to:

1/ Purchase games
2/ Play games
3/ Post on the forums (apart from linking, if it is still coded that way) and PM/chat

Most other forums I've used have post count rather than a reputation number.

It's a strange scam isn't it? Offering something tangible, i.e. a game that results in something intangible, i.e. reputation. I understand the point Gunsynd is trying to make, and that is that those with higher rep receive more generosity generally publicly and privately, but there is a bit more to it than that. People don't just keep on giving due to a reputation number but rather do so due to the connections and interactions they have. The issue I believe he is trying to raise is that those with a high rep will almost always be preferenced initially, and that those with low or negative rep are often perceived as someone to be wary of.

Would someone at GOG please just do as he ask and delete his fucking account already!

Jesus! I've had root canals that weren't this fucking tedious!

They are probably going to "discuss it for a while" and decide against it, as it would be to comlpex and time consuming.

And yet you cannot help but look at this thread :D It is more enjoyable than a root canal (or so I've been told - I can barely afford extractions and the cost of 1 root canal would fix my dental issues for life!)

So, high reputation users get better.. reputation? That's the point! :P

I don't understand where's the problem.. even IF all people did giveaways or helped others only to get more rep.. would that be so bad?
It seems just a positive incentive to act good.

When have GOG ever discussed something (or asked for input) and then not acted on it? :P The amount of comments almost 1.5 years ago about the rep system in that thread is pretty hefty. I'm sure that Gunsynd's demand to fix the rep system or delete his account will result in the system being fixed (to his liking).

Thank you Gunsynd and GOG for improving my forum experience :)
