bmgermani: Is this the thread where we go to get downrepped? Can I get some downreps please? Thank you.
No it was the guess that game giveaway

ghostgate2001: Posting here purely because I don't even know what my rep score is, or how to find it - apart from posting here and then looking at my own comment. Clearly it's a very important number, so I guess I'd better find out.

EDIT: 32. Hmm ... meaningful. Doesn't sound very high, but then I don't post very often. Does it affect my credit score with banks or something?

hedwards: The rep score is occasionally used by people giving give aways to cut down on people making a new account for their giveaway or known troublemakers.

If they'd implement something that would allow us to automatically ignore posts by people with negative rep or rep under a certain level it might be useful, but as it is it does basically nothing.

The only real exception is that if you down rep somebody you have the option of reporting it as spam. And if that account gets too many of those it gets auto-banned. That is unless they've actually bought a game.
Thanks! Most informative. If it's based entirely on up / down votes on forum posts, though, then that seems a little unfair on people who mainly just come here to buy games and rarely (if ever) engage with the forums. Bit like myself. Oh well, as they say, it's not a popularity contest (or IS it?) :) Right - Necrodancer, here I come! Been waiting what feels like ages for that one to leave the "coming soon" list and materialise for real in the GOGsphere :)
Hmmm.. so I guess OP isn't going to post more "high rep scabs"? I was looking forward to that amusement. :p

Those would be leeches. Whether or not they're buying games, they're not contributing to the community.

Well, assuming they aren't being targeted for massive negrepping.

BillyMaysFan59: Soooooooo did they delete his account yet?
This. I want to know. If it isn't deleted, it might be resold by that "nes" clone/scammer, then GOG really should delete his account for scamming.

DProject: I've lost my 4th star roughly after making a post in the trading thread last weekend.
Which is pretty much why I avoid trades in general and trading areas on the GOG forums like the plague.

DProject: I don't know if the post was relevant to it happening, but that's how I noticed it, anyway. I can't say I care too much - if anything, it's amazing I haven't been targeted before - the way this forum has gone to shit because of trolls makes stuff like this inevitable. More than getting annoyed about a meaningless number subtracted, I'd like to know the reasoning behind any of it: what I mean, is that somewhere out there is a person (I'm very doubtful it's a group) who's life mostly consists of waking up and logging in, finding new posts to downrate, logging out, logging in with another account, downrating, repeat etc. etc. If anything, I feel sad for them if this is all there is to their lives :( I suppose this makes them feel like they have a job, because I'm dead sure they don't have a real one.
I'm pretty sure that the people doing it are using a script or bot, which may or may not have been adapted from a script that someone supposedly wrote to downrep spam posts back when this place was hit by a rash of forum spam.

As for the reasoning? I personally suspect that this all came out of one person's desire to take part in the various giveaways and free code drops often seen here, but came away *feeling* that the giveaways were all unfairly biased in favor of long-time/"popular" forum members with high rep or older join dates. Hence his desire to derep people into oblivion, and the apparently obsessions to do anything and everything to squeeze as many free games and +rep as they can out of the community.

I actually am in the camp that believes he sold his account to nes400, out of sheer spite towards both GOG and the community at large. He knows that even if he is as publicly blatant in his wrongdoing as nes400 has in the past, GOG likely won't actually ban or delete him at all.

I wrote the scripts, but they were designed to mass downrep and report spam threads from the thread overview, since we had to deal with 20+ pages of spam threads at the time.

Of course anyone with a little knowledge of JavaScript and jQuery could make similar scripts to downrep people inside threads.
