teceem: It's all relative isn't it? If I wanted to change current communication methods by bringing back cave paintings, would you call me conservative or progressive?
avatar
SirPrimalform: That would depend on your reasoning for doing so. If you were making a case that cave paintings were in some way a functional improvement over current methods then I guess that would be progressive. If your reasoning was "because it's traditional" then it would be a conservative position. I see your point.
Ok, here's a (my) view: Politically/socially speaking, conservative change is for personal reasons (/views) only. Progressive change might be, but not necessarily.
Try to make a list of conservative politicians that try to change policy, while hurting their own self-interests.

That comes off as a little too blamey for my taste. I do think some conservative politicians legitimately believe that lowering taxes for corporations will spur growth and thus be good for everyone. So I don't think they always make decisions based solely in self interest. Just because I disagree with someone I don't think that makes their choices selfish or even wrong depending on their point of view. I might not agree with someone, but I have a different base of knowledge and life experience than they do... they may have perfectly valid reasons for something based on their personal experience that make sense for them and not for me... that doesn't make it selfish, they just have a different understanding of something than I do.

Ignoring how many politicians have an interest in the well being of some corporation or other. How does improving the economic situation of any corporation ever affects them negatively?
Locking this thread. For anyone wondering as to why - political discussions not related to games. Shocking, I know.
