Wow!

GOG Galaxy has come a LONG way, I am loving it! Good job GOG team! This is my new home! (Hope it's okay to post this and it's not off topic).

Have a good one everyone!
[posting this here, for future googlebinging GOG users, who may find this post in this thread]

Issue: GOG Galaxy - Fatal Error (Linux/WINE)

"Connection to Communication Service was lost and could not be restored! Gog Galaxy will now shutdown"

Happens in Linux Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (WINE 4.3 staging (latest)). No matter if installed via snap-in (Ubuntu Store) or 'on foot' ( = Galaxy Installer.exe from the GOG website.). Multiple user forum threads reported this issue also on Windows. Multiple 'solutions' and workarounds have been offered. Some work for some users. Others did not.

This here, works for everyone:

Solution:

L e a v e t h e e r r o r m e s s a g e b o x O P E N(!)

... until your download has finished - or you are done clicking inside the app! The GOG Galaxy app is still running and the communication is still active (game is downloading!). The moment you click on the "OK" button inside the (MS) Error message box, it will shutdown.
Getting a "Installation Failed: Configuration Error For Europa Universalis - Rome Gold on Galaxy 1.2.53 BETA". Report on mantis here: http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=5935

From what I can tell, based on the logs, Galaxy tried to launch: C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Dependencies\__redist\dotNet35\dotNetFx35setup.exe but the only file I found in the dotNet35 folder is "dotNet358 - Copy". As far as I know I haven't touched anything in the dependencies folder, and Galaxy isn't reacquiring the file.
Galaxy is not updating. I've been stuck in the 1.2.51 version since forever. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it a couple of time by now but I can't get the client to update. What is going on?

Are you enabling beta updates?

Other than that, maybe your antivirus is blocking it from updating

Yeah, I'm dumb, it was disabled. Thanks for pointing that out.
I have been have had this issue twice now. I have been playing a game that I got from GOG and recently I have tried to turn on the game and it comes up with a message that says that the shortcut to this game no longer works. This happened once before and all I had to do was uninstall the game and reinstall it. It worked. But it has happened again. This time when I uninstalled it I can't figure out how to reinstall it. I have looked on gog and there is no button on my game that I pwn saying to reinstall or download. Please help.
This is a problem for me and I need some guidance
Thank You!!!

Amazing info Shared.

You're saying there's no button to reinstall or download. Does anything show up in the place of the Download/Install button? A screenshot might help.

Also, what game are we talking about?

Hey,

we have released 1.2.54 version of GOG Galaxy.

It is a release of a version, which was available on Beta channel for quite some time.

Most notably it includes an update of Chromium to version 71, making GOG Galaxy use even less resources than before!
Apart from that, we've put some work make GOG Galaxy to operate in more secure manner when it comes to managing games on your PCs.

The rest of changes can be found in changelog.
Enjoy and happy playing.

That's not what I was expecting ;)

I think the Chromium update may have solved some of the issues I was seeing with Galaxy rendering CSS. So this is a good update in my book and performance does seem a bit better...

But... please for the love of the all mighty, please fix this bug: https://i.imgur.com/D229QT4.jpg ... I am so tired of clicking on icons after a restart, that I leave Galaxy running just to avoid it. It's existed what 3 years now? GOG has had plenty of time to find what is causing this issue, and it's easy to reproduce.

We will, In the future :) Sorry it takes so long.

Yeah, it's a bit unusual :)
We want to have the same version on Beta and stable channels, and in relation to 1.2.53 Beta version, nothing noticeable really changed, but fear not, we will not stop improving Galaxy.

I'll have to take your word for it I guess.

I think your wording there is more of the problem. 1.2.54 is a release yea? Not a beta yet you have beta in the changelog. Saying "No new changes" is also not great.

Instead it would be more informative to say something like: "Includes changes from the 1.2.52 and 1.2.53 betas." That people that don't use the beta's understand what exactly is in the release version.
