I would suggest, that if you're going to buy it anywhere, you buy it from GamersGate. If you buy it on Steam and run out of activations, you will have to buy the game again - further, Steam support will not remove the game from your account under any circumstances. So then you'd have to make an entirely new Steam account just to buy the game again.

Whereas with GamersGate, if you run out of activations, you simply contact GamersGate support and they will get you more - even if they have to give you a brand new CD key in order to do so. And that, with no questions asked (within reason).

That's a good point there, Bansama :) Though I do love Steam for several of its services, the ability to change game language at will being the main one (It can be very useful for language students such as myself). Still, since it's not being sold for $10 on either storefront it's not like I'll get it not anyway :P

Ubisoft support is supposed to provide you with additional activations in case you run out. I can't comment on the support quality as I hate this system as well (not even sure if I'll buy it for 5€), but it's not supposed to be 3 activations and then eternal lockdown ;)

Nope. I just know that GamersGate WILL help you without claiming you're a pirate. I cannot say whether or not Ubisoft's own support or that provided by TAGES will do the same.

But then your post is a bit misleading isn't it? You make it sound like the only option is to rebuy the game on Steam when the actual difference is is that you'll have to ask Ubisoft for more activations instead of Steam support. (rather than Gamersgate support on Gamersgate)

Not really. Considering the huge likelihood that Ubisoft will tell you to contact Steam support as you purchased the game on Steam, and they in turn will tell you to contact Ubisoft. Leaving you in a never ending circle of redirects. Just search the Steam forums, you'll find that happens on a near daily basis.

I'd still recommend the game sure the DRM is a little nutty but the game is good enough for me not to care and despite whats said I've somehow managed 4 installs so far so I'm kinda assuming they roll you more over time when your on your last...

Deus Ex 7.99 pretty good.

Any hardware changes requires a new activation. Got a new graphics card? There's one. Added a new RAM module? Second. Changed anything else? Done, three.

I don't really think I should be forced to contact a publisher and request for a new key, having to wait several days, in order to be able to play a game I paid for. If the activations were given back over time (3 a month, for example), that'd be ok by me. But 3 lifetime? I'll get that when the game costs the same than a lunch.

Also, Ubi won't give you new keys. There's this website (can't recall the name) that was doing benchmarks with the game to see how it'd run in different configs. They ran out of activations, obviously, and contacted ubi to ask to have them unlocked since they were benchmarking their game, doing something that in the end should help ubi sell more. Their answer was that they weren't going to give them seven keys (for 21 hardware config) and if they wanted them they should get the game seven times. Thankfully BlueByte stepped in and unlocked the key for them, but still. That's hardly good PR at all.

Does anyone have the Amazon.com list of daily deals for which you can use the 5 dollar coupons? I need to know if there's nothing else I give a shit about so I can give out coupons I'm not going to use.

The website did all the installs in less than 1 day as I said it seems after so many days you start getting activations back. This is pretty common and is known on many other games.
They contacted the UBI support on a weekend at odd hours and it was NOT UBISOFT that wanted them to buy 7 codes (UBI hadn't responded at that point) that was the company they BOUGHT the game from, infact if you contact UBI about ANNO 2070 your told to contact BB direct. You'll also find theres no forum for 2070 on the UBI forums etc etc.

Steam version does activate, can't see why this one wouldn't.

Both Steam and retail versions of base game and expansions activate on Origin, so I'd guess this one will also.
