Little Things Remastered
Genre: Hidden Object

This is a remake of two games: Little Things and Little Things Forever. The latter of these two (Forever) was released on iOS as a premium game. You just find little things and after that, find more little things. Even though some levels have time limits, there's no pressure. It will keep giving you more items to find until you run out of time. If you don't find anything, that's okay too. It'll just give you something else to find.

It ran on my prior extra potato laptop - Intel UHD 620 graphics, 8GB Ram
Little things looks clever. If they put that onto windows, linux or mac. Ill probably add that to the list.

Just because i dont add it to the list, doesnt mean its bad. Its just not top quality. Eveyone is free to suggest games and everyone can see said suggestions. Deciding what they want for their own use. :)

The Windows and Mac versions of Little Things Remastered were released in 2019. There are no Linux or iOS (iPhone/iPad) versions.

Am I missing something or is it a typo, cCan only see Win, OSX and Android, no Linux though.
Rayman Redemption
Hey folks. Thanks for finding more titles. I know as the list grows, there are fewer and fewer to add to it that fall into the category of quality. But there is always more people making something interesting for us to try!

Added Little Things Remastered and Rayman Redemption to the list. Have fun!

edit: also added Dwarf Fortress Classic as it is still free to play.

How about some classics in the Roguelike genre?
These should run on virtually any PC made in the last 30 years.
Of course, we start with Rogue itself
https://www.free-culture.ir/Rogue_1984-The_DOS_Game-The_History-The_Science.html

Then there was uMoria
https://umoria.org/
Note that if you can't run this version, search for the game with Google and you can find the older DOS version. This game has also been ported to the Macintosh (both 68K and modern), Linux, Unix, and the Apple IIGS (Available on the Ground or Caltech FTP mirrors).

Another good clone was Project Omega.

Omega also has been ported to Mac, Unix, Linux and the Apple IIGS (although the link for the latter isn't above. You'll have to find it on either the Apple II Ground or Caltech FTP mirrors)
Desktop Dungeons alpha, the alpha version of Desktop Dungeons Enhanced Edition, is quite complete by itself and offers tons of contents. It’s rogue+puzzle+math to me and probably not for everyone, but it’s absolutely addictive if you enjoy its gameplay.
According to Yair Morgenstern, UnCiv (an open-source remake of Civ V) can run on a potato. :)
Available for Windows, Linux and Android:

There was a fan remake of Star Control 2:The Ur-Quan Masters made about 15 years ago. Works great on a 22 year old computer with Win98SE or XP. I haven't tested it on anything newer.

Here is a fan-made remake of Quest for Glory II that tries it's best to imitate the Q4G1 remake's look and feel. Runs great on a 22 year old computer.
Sierra re-released a VGA version of Quest for Glory I in the early '90s with a point-and-click interface.

Ross Programm Products released several games.
One is a virtual jigsaw puzzle that lets you import any graphic into the program. I'm aware Macs had a similar program included with Mac OS System 7-9.
Also was the self proclaimed "Best [Virtual] Rubik's Cube" program, which is really a very good Rubik's Cube simulator, which is the game I'm recommending here. Works on my 22 year old computer.

An RPGmaker 2000 game "Mysterious Song"

Birth of Empires is a clone of Star Trek:Birth of the Federation.

The Marathon Trilogy was released as freeware
http://trilogyrelease.bungie.org/
Also there is a clone called Aleph One to allow Windows and Linux users to play Marathon 1 and Infinity, which were Mac-only (Marathon 2 was released for Win95 and the ISO is at the above link).
https://alephone.lhowon.org/

Halo is Marathon's spiritual successor, and re-used several elements from Marathon.
IMHO, it's like when they made Halo they decided to reboot the Marathon Trilogy, then decided to make it a totally new franchise inspired by Marathon but going in a new direction. Kind of like some of the different Gundam series.
In any case, if you want to see Halo's roots, check it out. Both were made by Bunji.

Added Unciv and was mulling over some rogue like games, but decided only to give an honorable mention to Tales of Maj'eyal instead of a listing on the front page. The base game is free even though gog sells it....for some...reason?? >_>

Anyway, if you do not know if it is right for you. Then try it for free first and then consider upgrading the game if you like it.

Thanks for the suggestions and keep an eye out for anything good!

edit: Also added Marathon Trilogy and Birth of Empires. They seemed legit after I dug a little deeper. Any game that seems broken or has any problems with it, that makes the list. Please let me know about what the problem is. I may not be able to fix anything, but I can stop directing people to it by removing it from the list. Thanks!

Marathon trilogy is fantastic, yeah. Infinity is my personal favorite.

Have you played the Alephone games? Any good?

yep. the original games' reimplementations. not the fan-made games. had a lot of good time. still replaying Durandal and Infinity now and then.
also, Aleph One is a cross-platform re-make of the original engine created after Bungie made Infinity's (or Durandal's?) source code public. so I wouldn't call it a clone.
