Thanks folks for the search as usual. I think that a short term give away is nice, but not really a thing I can put on the list. Also, the other two titles are more of a honorable mention in this thread. As in not making the list, but that doesnt stop anyone from checking them out! Thanks again and keep searching!

Stuff i know works on a 2006 MacBook:

Pioneers
https://eigen.itch.io/pioneers

Roguelight
https://managore.itch.io/roguelight

Java Fabled Lands
http://flapp.sourceforge.net/

Villager
https://partnano.itch.io/villager

Soulike
https://esistpaul.itch.io/soulike

Tales of Maj'Eyal
https://te4.org/

void pyramid
https://willyelektrix.itch.io/void-pyramid

For anyone who has the time to scour through the masses, itch.io has quite a few of short, low budget and/or low quality games that should work on abysmal spec PCs.
Was looking for some old games and I remembered that people can run a free client version of Ultima Online.

When I did a little digging, the free shard UOGDemise is still an active shard and it has a discord to join too.

Running the UOClassic client and grabbing either Razor or Razor Enhanced, the player can jump into the game fairly quickly and play for free. Yes, it is actually legal to do so when you go to the Demise shard. The reason is:

Game = freely given out --> Not using the official servers or program to get it to run(hence Razor/ Razor Enhanced) --> Thus it is legal to play in this manner. The free shard has been around for a long time and it is one of the beginning free shards available.

Just thought I would share the info if anyone had any interest in a potato online RPG with a long history.
Having fond memories of UO, I think it is an honorable mention. Not due to anything legal. Mainly because it is an online game. Unlike Veloren, which has a single player mode. UO is pretty much online required.Although I do recommend it.

Chiming in as a friendly reminder to check out the first page if you have not done so, for a list of free great games. Hope everyone has a nice time with them.
Unfortunately, I have a negative result to report.

I decided to try Janosik on my "big" laptop, which has an AMD 3500U and integrated graphics, and from what I attempted to play, the game kept stuttering to the point where it's not comfortable to play.

(This is a computer that can run Oblivion and the Pathfinder games without issue. Worth noting that I used the Linux build, if that matters.)

Linux can be sketchy at times. I have several games that work flawlessly that shouldn't and 90% of the games that I should be able to run in linux are either incapable from broken elements or seemingly no reason I can find.

Maybe grab the Windows version and test Wine and/or Lutris? Wouldn't surprise me if it will run just fine like that, instead of native linux.

Looking at the system requirements, that definitely shouldn't happen.

Do you have the package Winetricks installed? It's a frontend for Wine that tweaks it to your needs, including installing additional Microsoft components.

Indeed I do. I can set up most games if I really put in the effort, but frankly I shouldn't have to. I digress, this is off topic for Chuck's thread. Thanks for the heads up in the event I was not aware of it though =D

What is Janosik? I can't seem to come up with anything.

So I'm reading every post on this thread and to my surprise, 0 AD hasn't been mentioned yet.

It's historical RTS that's not only free but also open source and multi-platform!

EDIT: nevermind, it's on the clone list XD

i recently completed The Dark Mod game it's like the Thief series, it started out as a Doom 3 mod but turned into a stand alone open-source game

Also Doom 3 is ancient now it was released on the original XBOX.
I have 0AD on the first page as is the list of freebies. Thanks anyway :)
