MechWarriors, assemble!

BattleTech, the Kickstarted take on tactical 'Mech combat by the creators of Shadowrun Returns, is coming soon, DRM-free on GOG.com.

It's 3025 and the world is being torn apart by conflict while an interstellar civil war is a-brewing. The only way to survive is by leading your own mercenary outfit of MechWarriors through this brutal power struggle between corrupt rulers and ambitious aristocrats. Customize your giant BattleMechs and pilots, keep them upgraded and fit for battle, then unleash them upon your enemies in turn-based skirmishes that might as well decide the future of this war-ravaged world.

htown1980: I find it weird that people are talking about MechWarrior and MechCommander. This is a Battletech game, not a Mechwarrior or MechCommander game (featuring mechs obviously).

Has no-one played Battletech? Crescent Hawks Inception is one of my favourites games from that era.

I kickstarted this. Am looking forward to it (if it plays on my rig).

hohiro: *raises hand* played all, and even the shareware strategy game on the Amiga which simulated the board game best in former times.
I loved the Amiga MechWarrior game! Oh boy I don't even want to know how many hours I spent levelling my warrior and upgrading my mech. I think.
What a great game that was!

whystler2012: Command of a squad of mechs. This brings back memories of Missionforce: Cyberstorm, an old Earthsiege spinoff.
So like when do we get MissionForce: Cyberstorm and its sequel GOG? Those games where really really fun.

skirtish: If we're thinking of the same game, MechForce by Ralph H. Reed (renamed from "BattleTech" after FASA asserted their trademark IIRC), it didn't simulate the board game very well but improved on the mechanics in that it abandoned the AP-based system in favor of a tick-based one where every action had a time cost and the game would let you retake control after it completed. Unpractical for a board game, absolutely great for a video game.

I loved it so much I used to be an official overseas shareware customer back then. I had to save my allowance, somehow get it exchanged to USD, and mail it over there. I think I sent too little the first time and in the end I paid more for postage than the shareware fee. :)

Anyway, this game here has the potential to make me very, very happy.
Aha that's the one I was thinking about. I can never get the name right for some reason.

Probably never, because its an early Windows game. But it works flawless in a Win XP Virtual Machine (if you set colour depth to 16bit or lower)

GOG can fix it! They can fix everything techie for oldies games. Trust in the GOG. The GOG is good.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

guppy44: This looks intriguing. I haven't heard of it before now, but I like what I read/see. In all honesty, I never got to play any of the old MechWarrior or MechCommander games. The only one I ever had (and I believe still have the big box somewhere) is EarthSiege.

ssokolow: Last I checked, Microsoft had released MechCommander Gold and MechCommander 2 as free downloads. (I know they also released the source for a networking-less version of MechCommander 2 as some kind of Shared Source example.) Knowing Microsoft, they've broken my bookmarks 20 times over with their site rewrites, but you can probably still google them up.
Oh neat! Thank you for the heads up. I'll go look in to that. :)
I remember playing lots of Front Mission 3. Kinda hoping this will be like that.
Does anybody know if Mechwarrior 5 is still happening? Don't think I saw any news recently.

But does GOG want to fix it?
Here is the problem. A 16 Bit Windows game would cost so much to convert to 32 bit that it would have to be a really big seller to make it worth while for GOG to do that.
I have never played MissionForce: Cyberstorm and have no opinion about it ,but it seems to have been only a modest success, not the kind of well known classic that would justify GOG's going to the expense of a total conversion to 32 bit if it is a 16 bit game.
Where is that pre-order button already?!

FM3 was a great game. Played the hell out of it on the venerable PSOne myself as well. Wouldn't mind if Harebrained took inspiration from it.

Whoa. Dude. Does this mean they'll eventually get around to the classic Mechwarrior and Mechcommander games?

Hopefully though I would be ok if they just got the Crescent Hawk games and the original Mechwarrior
Now this is a day one purchase for me instantly! I am a huge Gundam, Hawken, battletech fan so this is ticking all my boxes. I been watching this game from the day the kickstarter went up and so far it looks SOLID!.

Can't wait! <3
I love you to much right now...
Great! I'm assuming that backers will be able to redeem their keys via GOG instead of Steam.

Yes you can. Probably not hte Beta, if you have Beta Access, but the final game you can for sure.
