For a while HypersomniacLive was trying to work out what the point of his power was - it was partly to give the Mafia a chance to pick up on the 'city names' clues - which they did, and partly - because once you know that the villain's names all appear in the introduction the role functions as a standard cop, to give that player a good town-feeling role to claim - which Hypersomniac did to win them the game.

ZFR and Dedo's 'condition' was that if they didn't get targetted by another player that night, their power would fail. The conditional visitor could be useful, in that if the power was successful, they would know they were targeted that night - which might help sifting through claims about actions... BUT in order for that to happen the visitor would have to know they were conditional (which a psychoanalysis could tell them) AND know what the condition was (which the other conditional role could tell them... all in all I'm not surprised the (conditional) visitor's results were totally unenlightening.

I was wondering whether to give ZFR "YOU FAILED" noticed when he wasn't targeted - even though he was targeting himself. By the wording I put in his role, his condition requires another role to target him, so it would fail. ZFR asked me early on if targeting himself while no-one else did would make his power successful, to which I answers (vaguely) "well, if a cop protects someone who isn't being targeted can it really be successful?"
Later on I thought that if I give him YOU FAILED notices after being vague, he might assume there was a roleblocker or something. Anyway I played it by ear and kept it ambiguous.

Gogtrial and everybody - thanks for enjoying the writing! I had a lot of fun writing this game, and it's very rewarding to have so many people get in touch to say they're enjoying it.

I should also mention another influence - The Wonderful 101. A game by platinum star on the nintendo wiiu. I'd been playing it again with my friend when I started writing the flavour, and it heavily influenced the tone of the game, as well as Safiros finding parallels with Commander Nelson, Beatrice and Puzzlebot mirroring Alice's role and The Virgin Victory giving me the idea for the Contra Astraos. It's a very fun game that uses cinematic Action sequences combined with a great sense of humour, and it probably had more influence on the whole story than I'd be happy to admit ;)

trentonlf: Both of y'all played a very good game. Y'all were invested and made the game fun (and that is what Mafia is about), it was a pleasure playing with each of you. All of the new players besides Fran did a great job IMO and I hope to see each of y'all in future games.
Thank you! As much as I was admittedly lazy sometimes, especially with how intermittently I did my ISOs, it was fun checking in every day to talk about any new happenings. Even just hanging around in the dead chat was enough.

blotunga: Your biggest blunder, which I myself was inclined to do also, was suggesting to kill one of trent/zfr to see if they are town.

All in all I think it was a great game and I enjoyed it. Congrats to everyone.
Agreed, this is probably my own finishing move. HSL was probably very happy that I was the one to suggest it; I guess checking the mafia QT would reveal as much, to be honest.

But hey, I guess whether I played well or tripped harder than SPF in his elimination flavor...trent is right. Even if I didn't play well, blundering also works as playing well, since if I don't blunder today, I will do that even harder tomorrow.

In addition, Beatrice is a clear reference to the Discord bot I run of the same name. Even the roll command used at the beginning of the flavor is formatted like so:

JoeSapphire: Roll%999,999,999.
...which to be fair, is not the precise syntax my bot uses, but rather like so:
%roll 999999999
But you can tell it's definitely similar, especially the usage of the percent mark as the command prefix.

Oh yeah I nicked Beatrice and Puzzlebot from discord. Puzzlebot is Zeogold's philosophy-spouting programme and Beatrice is a wonderful random-number-generating badass
Hey, the game ended! GG everyone and congrats to the villains! Thanks for hosting, Joe!
@Microfish_1 and @others - sorry for the the late reply, and thanks a bunch for the support and wishes.
Oh yeah! Just realised I never put up the night actions.

Night One:

Hyper investigates Dedo

You wake for a moment to find yourself staring at a feed from Beatrice's core console. It seems you've been hacking in your sleep again. The paper reads - TOP SERCRET INFORMATION - HIGHLY CLASSIFIED - LEVEL 9 CLEARANCE - ALIAS DEADPRONG - NAME MURWAT AL BURTA - DESTROY AFTER READING. You eat the printout before allowing oblivion to claim you again.

ZZZZzzzzzzzz....

YOU HAVE INVESTIGATED DEDOPORNO - HE IS MURWAT AL BURTA

ZFR targets self (SUCCESS - micro)(LOUDLY TARGETTED)

Your senses, highly attuned to the air around you, pick up quivers. Reflexively you surround yourself with a protective blast of wind. That should keep you safe.
You can't tell who, but you see that someone is studying you carefully.

YOU PROTECTED YOURSELF
YOU WERE THE TARGET OF AN ACTION

Scene eliminates ZFR (FAIL - PROTECTED)

While Safiros is speaking and everybody is distracted you take the opportunity to strike! You duck behind a console and aim Supplementary Pain and Supplementary pleasure at Zephyr. Coolly, you squeeze the triggers.

BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM.

You smile to yourself and smugly replace your guns. The Saviour is still standing though. And your opportunity is passed. How irritating.
YOU ATTEMPTED TO KILL ZFR - THE ATTEMPT FAILED

Blotunga analyse Lifthrasil

In a moment of confusion you create an intricate pattern in ThrashSeal's field of vision. and you regard the Saviour carefully. He probably doesn't realise he's seeing it, but subconsciously he's processing and reacting to your cues. A few seconds is all you need to have a thorough evaluation.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED LIFTHRASIL - HE HAS NO MODIFIERS

Micro analyse ZFR

While no-one's looking you quickly hop onto Zephyr's shoulder and climb up into his ear. You listen to the ambient sound of his brain working. Yes. Unmistakable. You've learned a lot about this Saviour.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED ZFR, HE IS CONDITIONAL

Dedo visits Micro (SUCCESS - hyper)

You hang silently in the air above the tiny Saviour. You observe nothing with your sightless eyesockets.

YOU HAVE VISITED MICROFISH'D

Trent track Scene (NINJAD)
The wisdom of the moon tells that now is a time of great trouble. Meditively, you cast your gaze over The Supplement. As the sky and the pond stare into one another's souls, you regard this Saviour. But you see nothing to cause concern.

YOU HAVE TRACKED SUPPLEMENTSCENE - HE VISITED NO-ONE.

Night Two:

Blotunga analyse ZFR

You idly engage Zephyr in conversation while no-one seems to be doing anything. During the conversation you drop subtle hints about his childhood, his upbringing, his sex life, his stamp collecting… From his almost-imperceptible reactions you compose a fairly throrough picture of the Saviour’s psyche.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED ZFR. HE IS CONDITIONAL.

ZFR protect self (SUCCESS - blotunga)

A tickle in the air… Something’s wrong.
Powerful winds surround you in seconds.

YOU HAVE PROTECTED YOURSELF

Hyper eliminates Dedo

A smack in the face startles you awake. You’ve got DeadProng wrestled in a tight headlock.
“whu- where am I?...” You utter groggily.
“You’re pulling my mask of you bastard!” cries the struggling Saviour. “Let go!”
“oh… good…” you close your eyes.

YOU HAVE ELIMINATED DEDOPORNO

Micro analyses self

You… crawl inside your own ear and listen to the sound of your brain…? It baffles logic, but there you go, you did it. You heard your own brain.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED YOURSELF. YOU HAVE NO MODIFIERS.

Dedo visits Micro (SUCCESS, ELIMINATED)

You like the tiniest of the Saviours. Small in stature but huge in heart… You slink around in his shadow for a while. Then someone grabs you from behind and pulls your mask off.

YOU HAVE VISITED MICROFISHD
YOU HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED

Trent track ZFR

You extend your senses, and observe the balance and flow of the room. You feel an intrinsic connectivity between all things. You also keep your eye on the windy warrior, Zephyr and notice him doing something to himself.

YOU HAVE TRACKED ZFR - HE VISITED HIMSELF

Night Three:

blotunga analyse Hyper

You have been interpreting Hypersomniac’s dreams for years, but you may as well give him a check-up. You listen to him mumbling in his sleep – the voice of his subconscious telling all his troubles. It is very enlightening.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED HYPERSOMNIACLIVE, HE HAS NO MODIFIERS.

ZFR proctects self (FAIL)

The familiar rush of air engulfs you. Ahh… that feels better.

YOU HAVE PROTECTED YOURSELF

Micro analyse SirP (ELIMINATED)

You clamber up SerpentRime’s frosty body. It’s a tough climb. Do snakes have ears? They better do, you think to yourself. Whatever he has, you know it’s going to be cold.
Brrrrrrr….
SerpentRime’s brain is banging and clattering away in there – there’s certainly something going on.
As you climb down someone picks you up by the head and tugs your legs, pulling you out of your mask.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED SIRPRIMALFORM, HE IS MACHISMO.
YOU HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED.

Hyper Eliminates Micro

You’re dreaming about chasing hens out of a kitchen, and the hens sometime turn into cats and climb on your shoulders, you try and throw one off but it’s got it’s claws dug into your back…
You’re roused by a cry of alarm, you look down to discover MicroFist’s mask in your hand. You quickly toss it aside before anyone else sees.

YOU HAVE ELIMINATED MICROFISHD

Trent track pooka

Harmony and balance resonate in the essence of all things, but rarely does a spirit display these forces as clearly as Monsieur Moutard does right now.

YOU HAVE TRACKED POOKAMUSTARD. HE TARGETTED NO-ONE.

Night Four:

Blotunga eliminate ZFR

Fortunately, you were prepared for this. You play a carefully-crafted sound recording, music from Zephyr’s childhood, with layers upon layers of carefully-chosen sound effects that will stimulate the Saviour's unconscious traumas and buried emotions. All at once, the effect will make his brain explode.
But, somehow or other, your plan doesn’t work out and the Saviour is still up and about.

YOU ATTEMPTED TO ELIMINATE ZFR. THE ATTEMPT FAILED.

ZFR protect self

You briefly consider doing something different…
Nah.

YOU HAVE PROTECTED YOURSELF

Hyper investigates SirP

You jerk awake. You’re staring at Serpent Rime’s bum – in your sleep you’ve pulled back the waistband of his suit. As you’re wondering why your sleeping self would do such a thing, you notice a hand-written label sewn into Serpent Rime’s underpants.
“Ah…” you think to yourself, “That makes perfect snacks in a blanket…”
Your thoughts got a bit confused as you crossed the borders of the waking world.

YOU HAVE INVESTIGATED SIRPRIMALFORM, HE IS ANDREA WELLINGTON

Trent track Hyper

Order subsists within chaos. Chaos forms order. Hypersomniac spends a lot of time around Serpent Rime.

YOU HAVE TRACKED HYPERSOMNIAC LIVE, HE TARGETTED SIRPRIMALFORM

Night Five:

Hyper eliminates Trent

You pick yourself up off the floor, feeling very bruised. There's only three Saviours of the world standing. You sigh and march up to The Canton Calf and pull his ridiculous headpiece off.

YOU HAVE ELIMINATED TRENTONLF

Blotunga investigates Hyper (AGAIN)

You review your notes for The Hypersomniac. Yup. Just as you remembered.

YOU HAVE ANALYSED HYPERSOMNIACLIVE, HE HAS NO QUALIFIERS

Trent Track Hyper (ELIMINATED)

You wipe rime from your eyeholes and look around for where The Hypersomniac fell. He went bouncing off over that way... ah.
You watch him clamber painfully to his feet, brush himself off, march over to you and pull your mask off.

YOU HAVE TRACKED HYPERSOMNIACLIVE - HE TARGETED YOU!

ZFR protects self

You look round at the other Saviours of the world - Koro-Koro Tank is bearing down on InkBlot - InkBlot and The Canton Calf are watching The Hypersomniac was he tries to pull The Canton Calf's mask off... You're pretty sure they can work it out amongst themselves...
You conjure a whirlwind to defend yourself.

YOU HAVE PROTECTED YOURSELF

Korotan prosecutes Trent (in game for fun)

ZFR: Will post more when I have access to a laptop and more time.
OK, sorry to dig this up again, I wanted to write more, but was on the road with mobile access. And when I came back didn't want to post anything with the other game in progress. So, if I remember every thing I wanted to write:

a) Congrats again Team Mafia. Well done.

b) Thanks for hosting Joe. I enjoyed it.

c) In all my previous games as Town, I made terrible reads. I kick myself because this is the first game where I actually made very good reads, but failed to act upon them. I figured out scene+blotunga without any investigative roles. I PMed Joe the scum team of scene, blotunga and HSL by D4. And then I failed to act upon it.

d) HSL, why do you think Loud Ninja is a bastard role? Loud only becomes an issue if the targeted player survives, and even then he doesn't know who targeted him; only that he was targeted. So it's just a slightly weaker version of Ninja, not a useless one.
Or is the fact that the Loud modifier was hidden that makes it bastard? But then so were other modifiers.

e) I had no idea I was NK target, despite the loud modifier. Joe informed me I was the target of an action, but since I protected myself (so was the target of my own action) I didn't attach that much importance to it. If I was sure, I might have gone stronger against scene+blotunga theory.

f) When I was targetted the second time, I was protecting trent and switched to myself before deadline. Phew.

g) SPF: the no-lynch idea wasn't really bad at MYLO, if it had been suggested from the start. The fact that you suggested it only later made me think you're scum trying to protect blotunga. Sorry!
I don't think trent made a mistake though of putting you at L-1 at the stage the game was in. Everyone claimed so there was nothing more to be added.

h) If Koro had claimed governonr I would have been more likely to lynch blotunga. I didn't, thinking Koro scum was a possibility, but claiming governor would have cleared him as town for me: it's an exotic role and not something a newbie scum would have invented by himself, espcially after asking about it before, nor something he'd have been coached to do.

i) HSL, please don't feel you have to change your style. I'll be honest the first 2 games with you, it did feel a bit... too "interrogative"? not sure how to put it but I can relate to what Lift wrote: I felt lot of pressure "would HSL find anything wrong with my post???"
However, once I got accustomed to it, it no longer bothers me. And it adds a lot of variety to mafia games. I sure missed you in #58. So personally no style issues from me. And I hope to play against you soon.

j) Micro, excellent job for a first game!

k) trent: very nice job again!

l) Just a small issue but I wish the statement "if scene was my partner I'd have asked to be subbed" from trent wasn't made.
I wish any subbing issues be brought with the host in private only. Like with the bler incident before, this can bring meta-reads which I think are unfair. At this stage I had to either town-confirm trent (which was an unfair advantage) or believe trent was lying when he said that he'd rather be subbed, and I didn't want to think trent a liar on such an issue.

m) I think that's all. gg

But with him also suspecting Blotunga and Blotunga not already being on the wagon... that's where it becomes a mistake.

I know what you mean and normally I'd agree. But, at the stage there was nothing more to be added. Waiting is good if it can bring more info before the mafia-not-on-wagon hammers, but in this case it would have just postponed the inevitable.

Say that trent didn't hammer you and waited.

Waited for what?

You claimed. Everyone claimed. Barring some bad slip from a mafia, was there anything could have changed trent's or anyone's mind at this stage?

If trent had waited the deadline would have come eventually and trent would have had to make the decision to vote you or not anyway. Might as well make it as soon as possible.

Trent didn't hammer me (that would have in some ways made more sense than leaving the door open for your other suspected mafioso to hammer). Personally I was waiting for HSL to vote for Blotunga since he'd decided to hard-bus him. I went to bed thinking about hard questions to ask HSL but by the time I logged in the next day the deed was done! I think I came up with some good stuff while falling asleep, but it might have actually been bollocks due to the aforementioned falling asleep.

Why should I have claimed Gouvener? I had not this role, I whas Prosecutor.
