To avoid misrepresenting the issue: it has since been clarified that this is true only of the special editions of the game that include the Modern Warfare remaster as well. Keep in mind that the only way of obtaining this remaster is through buying these Infinite Warfare special editions. We don't know at this time the storage space required for the basic version of Infinite Warfare. Activision also says this is a high-end estimate, so the final install size might indeed be smaller.

EDIT: The games are indeed separate downloads, even though it is a bundled purchase, despite my previous belief. That lessens the problem greatly. It becomes two ~65GB games, which I would still consider bloated and much bigger than necessary, but unfortunately, in this day and age, not outrageous.

EDIT 2: Reports from people with early access to the remaster say it is 40GB. That puts Infinite Warfare at 90GB.

What are your thoughts on the increasing install sizes of games?

I know it is inevitable, and with big games like Witcher 3 I don't see a problem, but there are linear games that come around and are just as big, and I'm not sure if graphics alone are an excuse. Taking forever to download is my immediate gripe with them, but nowadays we see the same thing on consoles, over there storage space might be harder to come by than on PC, where most people would have at least 1TB, so I wonder how it's like for people who game primarily on consoles.

Personally, I find it ridiculous that game sizes have to be measured in gigabytes in the first place. I remember seeing massive games like Final Fantasy 5/6 that would fit in 32 megabits (=4 megabytes), so when a game takes even hundreds of megabytes, it makes me start to wonder. Once the size limit reaches the gigabytes, it starts to feel like the developers are just wasting space.

(I actually felt this way even when Final Fantasy 7 came out. Why does the game need multiple CD-ROMs? (For comparison, you could fit all previous FF games and probably every RPG I had played prior to that point on a single CD-ROM.)

Another thing: I use 128GB SSDs for both my desktop and laptop (with my desktop also having a spinning 2TB disk for extra storage), and this game would not fit on one of them.
That's almost as many GBs as I've used redownloading "Titan Quest" every time it updates.

Sure, if all games were low-res 2D tile-based affairs with MIDI soundtracks, they wouldn't take up much space.

I find it odd that you seem to believe that the size of the game world is somehow directly related to the data size of the game. Logic and mapping does not take up a lot of space. Graphics and sound does.
130GB....

Honestly I think games are getting too big with not enough content. They used to be quite the opposite. I really don't like considering games over 8Gb in size, since after that it moves to multiple discs and is otherwise just a pain. My 1TB games drive (with the installers and stuff) is nearly full.

The pushing for higher resolution and graphics is taking increasingly more time and more energy and more money than it's worth. If FF13 was made with SD in mind rather than full HD, would it have taken less than half that time to make? Perhaps more is the video sequences where it's full video. When considering video to download or watch I usually find the 360/480 far more appealing than 720/1080/1440.

Someone needs to make a game with PS2 level of limitations and game design, and then if they have time/money leftover they can improve graphics/sound/video to the level they can afford.

It's obviously a conspiracy. They want to take up all your disk space with games, so you won't have anywhere to keep THE TRUTH.

Here is the thing: The games I mentioned have good enough graphics and sound. MIDI-like soundtracks can work well if a decent set of samples is used.

Also, I note that Super Mario 64 is 3D, yet it only takes up 8 MB and fits in a cartridge. Zelda: Ocarina of Time is apparently 4 times the size, but even that is still only 32 MB, nowhere near the size of a CD-ROM, let along big enough to be measured in gigabytes.

Also, I note that Zelda: OoT certainly looks better than, say, Final Fantasy 7, despite the developers having less space to work with. (FF7 really does feel like a waste of space, especially since all the non-FMV content is duplicated across all 3 disks.)
Well, sure, storage and install sizes have always increased through time, and we should be hitting terabytes soon enough, but I hope bandwidth will keep up with the pace. My guess is not likely and not for everyone.

Please, if he keeps it to his own discussion, then so should we.
Haven't call of duty games always been the fattest new release lately? I really wonder how they manage to take up that much space for an 8 hour campaign.

Actually makes me wonder if nintendo is on to something and cartridges will be a thing again with consoles. They really haven't been keeping up with the storage space at all.

Ah. Well never mind then.
I just bought Shadow of Mordor GotY Edition and I was shocked to find that the download is 42 Gb. Fortunately, I dont have a cap on my internet, but alot of gamers do and games nowadays are getting too big. I bet that most of the extra size is the higher resolution videos and not the game itself. Game companies should offer a lower size download if you want only 480p videos and give players that option.
This is the reason I had to get Sacred 2 on disc which really pisses me off because it doesn't have the add on like the GOG version.

Hey, how many GB can you get on a blank cd/dvd now a days?
