There are two things that matter to all of us gamers: the games we play and the friends we play them with. But as more titles come with dedicated launchers and clients, our games and gaming buddies become scattered in between them. With GOG GALAXY 2.0, you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms!

As gamers, we need to juggle between multiple clients to access our games and see what our friends are playing,” says Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG. “We believe gamers deserve a better experience, and this became the driving force to redefine GOG GALAXY client,” Karwowski adds. “GOG GALAXY 2.0 is designed for all gamers and extends well beyond existing GOG.COM users, into both PC and console platforms.

Once you connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with other platforms, it will import all your games into one library. You will see your friends activities and online status across connected platforms. All new library and friends features apply to your GOG.COM games and enhance your experience. And it’s designed to protect your privacy – your data belongs to you and will never be shared with third parties. We see it as an all-in-one solution for the present-day gamer.

So, when can we test it?

Bluddy: I will be shocked if Galaxy 2.0 is good, and even more so if it's maintained beyond the first couple of months, given GOG's history. I think the idea is great -- anything that makes GOG more well known to more people is a net positive. I have serious doubts about GOG's ability to execute.
They are partnered with Microsoft, so this certainly has more potential than previous attempts and projects with such a giant backing them.
Looks like it's going to be a Playnite alternative...
I like Launchbox better; more librarian features - like e.g. adding offline trailer movies. But it was a lot of work to add my entire GOG library (not just installed games).
My ideal program would be Collectorz Game Collector + Launchbox + Playnite - all-in-one. But I have no illusion that Galaxy 2.0 will be that.

lubkezim: PLEASE ADD ADDONS FOR THE GAMES (or a community page for the people create some mods for the games)
The sites does mod spotlights in general from time to time....the most recent was for Bloodlines.
Galaxy v1 overlay seems to have problems with MSI Afterburner.
I need this tool to check my pc's status.. does anyone know if Galaxy v2 is affected too?
low rated
lol. pointless.
Steam already has ability to add non-Steam programs & Steam overlay works on imported non-Steam games. And by overlay I specifically mean it takes screenshots with a hotkey & displays FPS.
Galaxy is supposed to have same overlay features, but the only game I have got them to work on in Galaxy is Kerbal Space Program. :(
Steam overlay shows FPS & takes screenies with all GOG games I have "Imported" thus far, Galaxy overlay doesn't even work on its own games. lol.
Plus Steam's UI & library display is better, IMO, than Galaxy's. (highly subjective opinion IK)

Yes, GOG achievements don't work Steam....but GOG achievements don't work in Galaxy either, so....

So why would I want to import my games from Steam, with working cheevos & overlay features, to Galaxy with its non-funtional cheevos & overlay?

Galaxy 2.0 "features" are a joke.

Hey GOG guys, get Galaxy's shit together & working first, before you ask me to put all my games in it, k?

I mean I love GOG! I love no DRM & offline installers & awesome old games & awesome new games too!
But Galaxy is... very lackluster considering the way you're trying to "sell" it.
It just isn't a replacement for the Steam launcher, sorry but true.

Again I love GOG, & am staying a customer, but Galaxy is almost pointless IMO.
The only reason I keep Galaxy on my PC at all, is because after importing my GOG games into Steam it can be a little confusing which games are actually installed in which library, so I can fire up Galaxy & see only my GOG games & keep track of shit that way.
A "game installation sorter" is the only thing Galaxy is really useful for. Well, it does have the update thing, but I've never tried that out, as most of my games library are oldies with no updates.

TL;DR
Steam features: Imports games. Overlay & screenshots work even with imports. Doesn't register GoG achievements. Muddles Steam games with non-Steam in same list.

Galaxy features: Imports games. Overlay & screenshots don't work, even with native games. Doesn't register GoG achievements. Shows only GOG games, so I can keep my shit sorted.

So that is why I import my GOG games into Steam, but still have Galaxy installed, & why Galaxy 2.0 deosn't impress me or give me any reason to change my launching arrangement.

Again, Galaxy 2.0 = joke, funny haha!

Note they arent actually 'partnered' with Microsoft

They've 'been talking' just like theyve 'been talking 'with Epic

Talk is cheap

Until they actually release 2.0 to people and show something other than 'we moved a few icons around from 1.2'. The talked big talk when Galaxy was 'supposed' to launch originally. HOw much of that panned out over hte past 3 years? Barely much of it. The irony is that their quarterly report says Galaxy 2.0 has apparently already launched to uses. how amusing. The only thing GOG Galaxy seems to be beating steam at is making things in Valve Time.

There's also a free software called Playnite that actually does what Galaxy 2.0 is supposed to do. And it functions well!

I've observed GOG's programming ability for a long time. As I've stated before, they can't even be bothered to fix the price filtering options on their site to account for sale prices i.e. they can't be bothered to change 10 or so lines of code even though it's costing them thousands of dollars in sales, so why should I believe in their ability to create something better than Playnite?
I am eager to try this out but I dont even get the beta key?

First come first served. Everyone that signed up is getting one but not all at once.

In fact, they haven't covered everyone who signed up on day 1 if I'm any indication.

Probably not no.
Did they even guarantee that everyone that signed up would get access?
avatar
TerriblePurpose: Did they even guarantee that everyone that signed up would get access?
No. They said "first come first served," which does not necessarily mean "all served." Also, depending on how they're doing the beta, there's a decent chance that they'll add people in waves as they have updates. Certainly, while they're going to want to get it used by a lot of people to catch more problems, they're also are going to want to limit the number on some level, or they risk having too many bug reports to deal with (many of which would probably be for the same issues). And of course, they haven't said when GoG Galaxy 2.0 is actually being released, since that depends on how the beta goes. So, the beta could go on for a while, with people being added over several weeks or even months. All we can do is wait until we actually get an e-mail giving us beta access or until it exits beta and becomes available to everyone. The later you were to sign up, the longer you're going to have to wait, and the more likely it is that you won't actually get beta access - though depending on how many people signed up and how long the beta goes, it _might_ be the case that everyone who signed up gets beta access eventually. I wouldn't bet on it though.

Steam has the worst UI out of any client, origin, Even Microsoft, etc. It looks like from the 90's.
