MiKiL: Alexander Anderson in Hellsing-series are reported to speak Irish (or Scottish, depends from who are you asking).
X-)
avatar
WBGhiro: I think that guy has his very own accent
First I was "What is this..." but oh it's Norio Wakamoto as Alexander in Hellsing Ultimate (Japanese).
Steven Brand seems to be Alexander in English dub and it sounds quite good.

WBGhiro: What do you guys think of the weird practice of adding scottish accents to usually fantasy characters? I've been reading the Monster Musume manga and it's really bothering me that Lala's lines all read like the drunken slurs of a scotsman. See pic*.

I've heard of this thing before as it's supposed to be really prevalent in Dragon's Quest games but it's the first time I encountered it in the wild and it just baffles me.

I get translating things in "Ye olde Englishe" when a character uses a lot of archaic vocabulary, I also get translating local accents to a foreign equivalent or whatever comes closest. But I don't get why you'd translate someone with a normal speech pattern (as far as chuunibyou goes) and turn it into highlandspeak.

Don't get me wrong I love the scottish accent, but i don't get why. Does anyone know of other examples of Glasgowification?

*From the "I <3 Monstergirls" spin-off where guest artists draw series of lighthearted 4 panel strips, pretty good stuff.
Hmm, not something I'm familiar with really. Maybe it's because they are supposed to be from some region in Europe that's in or near Scotland? I don't think I've ever encountered it. Or at least, I won't notice until now.
I took my first dive into a "light novel" by purchasing the Kindle version of the Konosuba light novel. Basically, the anime follows the light novel much closer than it does the comic/manga (depends on how obsessive you want to get) so it was really easy to picture in my mind the events although there is a chapter that gets shown in the manga but not the anime.

It is definitely interesting to see the story in this format and I am definitely open to reading other light novels.

Spice & Wolf in light novel-format is good reading too. Anime was nice but it only covers the story to 5th book and just ended there. Plot is pretty much focused on economics, trading and peddling instead of normal sword and magic so this might turn some people off.
LN and VN mean Light and Visual Novels, right?
As for anime tastes, I like Bleach, Death Note, and Soul Eater, though I haven't seen much yet.

Yep, that's right. :)

Ive started Soul Eater like twice. I liked it but my attention just sorta wandered :(
After watching space patrol luluco I have to say I really admire Trigger's ability to shit out something with no effort at all and for it to still be great.

... I can't tell if that's a recommendation/compliment or a warning.

Well, I'm still watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, I'm wondering what else I should pick up. Maybe one of those anime on Netflix, might as well use it.

Also, did you guys here about Attack on Titan Season 2's release date? It's... April if I remember correctly. Hmmm, I wonder when the next seasons of Noragami and Kill la Kill will land, I really enjoy those.

It's ironically bad... like post-modernism in anime except not shit.

Or like Panty and Stockign season 2 without the gross-out humour.
So... I haven't been around for past couple of weeks due to some RL problems, but I'm glad that the regular posters are still here, helping to answer questions and moving the conversation along. I really do appreciate it, thanks! :)

I'll go through the previous posts to see if anything was left unanswered next time. Meanwhile, take a look at 2 unusual [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7ETpcylnR4]ads.

... What?

Heheheheh, if you haven't noticed, the Street Figher Car ad has the wrong name displayed when the car is fighting M. Bison. It's showing Vega, instead of M. Bison.

... Usain Bolt?
Also, I wonder if I can find the C-HR as a MUGEN character.

I just watched through Shiki on the Funimation site. It is basically an anime version of Salem's Lot and it was overall pretty good. It may not be really great but it was worth watching.

WBGhiro: From the "I <3 Monstergirls"
Is it just in Chapter #38, as MiKiL had mentioned, or more than that?

Oh, and I have some good news for you. Overlord S2 is 99.999% confirmed.

It's actually more than that, and I don't like to explain such things... But look at it this way, your comment can be seen as simple ignorance and people will just laugh at you or it can be seen as an insult to their own culture and things will get ugly.

Yeah, because the anime adapts from the LN and not the manga. Same thing with its manga, it adapts from the LN. Konosuba is one of those series whereby its anime doesn't adapt from its manga.

Yup, April for AoT S2. No news on Noragami or Kill la Kill though.

Oh, that. I've almost forgotten that before you mentioned it, lol. You see, Balrog's Japanese name is Mike Bison which is too similar to Mike Tyson and Capcom doesn't want to be sued. Hence, you know Balrog as Balrog and not Mike Bison. Since Mike Bison becomes Balrog, the Japanese Balrog has to be renamed as Vega, and because of that, the Japanese Vega has to change his name too. So in the end, Japanese Vega becomes known as M.Bison (not Mike Bison, mind you ;P) outside Japan... Confusing yet? rofl...

Since FF 30th Anniversary was just recent, let's end this post with it.
