Grargar: Assuming we're talking about the same book, Amazon has plenty of copies of it in stock.
Yes. I ordered it from BookDepository. But I believe Ixamyakxim want to check it out from the library, not purchase it.

IAmSinistar: I think it's a low print-run title, and a specialist interest. You may need to ask them to shelve a copy.

I'll give the university a check and if not maybe look into that - thanks for the link Grargar.

eiii: Very nice summary of the HoMM series. I like it and hope you have time for a few questions.

I've only played HoMM 4 quite a while ago and enjoyed it a lot, up to the point where I got stuck in the campaign because I could not beat a level. I've also started to play HoMM 5 but didn't like it that much and abandoned it. I own the whole series on GOG now.

How is the difficulty and complexity of the other games compared to HoMM 4?
Would you still recommend me to (re-)start to play the series with HoMM 1?
Oh boy, see now the reactions to HoMM4 :))
But that makes it my cue to hop in here and say HoMM4 was pretty much just what I always wanted HoMM to be, with heroes entering battles and being able to have hero-only armies trashing around, with troops being able to walk on their own, more control, better hero development... But, of course, being so unlike the previous titles those who treasured them, and HoMM3 in particular, couldn't stand 4, 3DO went bankrupt because of it, Ubisoft picked the series back and made a HoMM5 that was essentially a 3D HoMM3, sweeping just about every mention or leftover from 4 under the rug.
Did play Tribes of the East from 5, but nothing else, and did find it better than 3 in some ways at least, but...
So to continue the "blasphemy" here, after an initial "wow, this is so cool", 3 quickly lost me and I don't think I ever finished more than the first campaign. Just not my play style. Not that the previous ones were, but the style seemed somehow... less serious, and I was also even younger and took it less seriously, and I could just poke at it. Think I finished HoMM1, but was already struggling with 2, only did parts of it. 4, like I said, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I don't want to start a separate thread, but would like to ask for your opinion. I guess here is as good as anywhere.

Recommend an RTS for me to play all weekend long. My social butterfly regimen ends Thursday night, or with Friday morning's hangover...
-available on GOG
-Windows only (and or linux), because I'm less aware of those titles than Mac ones, though most of the RTSes here aren't available on Mac...
-historical would be preferable to sci-fi which would be preferable to fantasy for this specific request.

May not be quite what you're looking for, but have you played Darwinia? Insanely addictive, I've played through it multiple times. Requires a number of different skills to complete successfully.

I've not played Victoria Complete yet but it seems like it would fit the bill, and offers an interesting historical setting.

Most of the other titles I would suggest aren't RTS but rather TBS. And Reprisal Universe is a Populous-alike, which is different too.

EDIT: typo

Thanks for the ideas, especially thinking outside the box. :) I was picturing something more along the lines of Gettysburg, but...

I haven't played Darwinia yet and I should take a look - definitely heard good things. I've owned that one for a while, too.

But in the end, maybe it's a Paradox weekend after all. Though my preferences for the historical period fall much more towards HOI, had I considered Paradox in the first place I bet I would have chosen Victoria. (Or CK1.)

Things to ponder. :)

EDIT: Haven't played a Paradox before, but if someone were just describing the scope and/or mechanics of GOG games to me and I didn't own any, they would likely be my first choice.

Also, I am indeed a big TBS fan, but if I wind up going with one of those I would probably go for the king, HOMM3.

Should be at 60% off on its own whenever the D&D bundle pops up again. Don't think it goes lower than that, but considering how well it still seems to sell (and for good reason) even so, not surprising.

Glad to help, and if the weekend ends up going in the TBS direction, you could do worse than the Battle Isle/Kronos games. And while I've not played it yet, Expeditions: Conquistador gets consistently high marks from gamers. Probably will be the next one I play in that genre.
I haven't read much in the sale threads yet so I don't know if GOG will continue recycling deals from now on but I hope they won't. Otherwise I'm done and spent already. :D
