Lol! You're quite welcome! And we're all noobs once right?
Hi, thanks for putting up al those links, but it appears that Death Star from Levels of the World for Descent 1 is broken. When I try to play it rebirth crashes with the following error:
Error: illegal side type(3), type = 0, segment # = 0, side # = 0
caller:/Users/christaylor/Programming/d1x-rebirth/main/game.c:950

EDIT: Another thing, when I want to install Vertigo for Descent 2, what exactly am I supposed to do? From what i understood I need to place D2X.HOG and D2X.MN2 into the MISSIONS folder and copy the folder to where the other Descent 2 files for rebirth are. What do I do with the other files from vertigo that were included in the ZIP? Do I put them into the main folder as well? Should I overwrite the alredy existing files?

I reported your error to the developer.

To install Vertigo, you're right, those two files go into the Missions directory, and then the rest need to go into either the main directory (where the application is) or in the Data directory that is in the same directory as the main application. :)
OK, should I overwrite the existing data? There are some files included with vertigo that I had to put already into the Data folder to play vanilla Descent 2
Yes, you'll want to overwrite them :)
I just want to say THANK YOU for doing all this good work, and keeping Descending viable. That is all.
You're very welcome! :)

Just to make sure credit goes to where it's due, zico is the one who made DXX-Rebirth. I just made the installer and have tried to pool as much info/downloadables as possible for everybody :)
Updated! Finally added some AddOn packs for soundtracks :)
Question about the Vertigo install: whenever I load it, everything copies successfully and the game runs the Vertigo data fine. However, all non-Redbook sound doesn't work and the config program just crashes, neither of which happen with a clean install. I suspect it's some setting I haven't figured out how to get at yet. Win8 64bit, using DOSBOX, if that helps.
Unless you have some deep-seated reason to be using DOSBox, I'd suggest getting DXX-Rebirth: http://www.dxx-rebirth.com (Hold off for a few days however, because a new update was just released that introduced a few bugs, and zico the developer is hard at work getting it all worked out again.)

Check out the FAQ here on this forum if you need some more help. :)
Got a question about the Definitive Collection Soundtrack by rs_tsyu.

I'm guessing this is the best one to use with Descent 2, but I'd like to have the correct track for the correct level. Now, looking inside the archive it contains 8 .ogg files. However, the .SNG list contains the following:

descent.ogg
briefing.ogg
endlevel.ogg
endgame.ogg
credits.ogg
game01.ogg
game02.ogg
game03.ogg
game04.ogg
game05.ogg
game06.ogg
game07.ogg
game08.ogg
game09.ogg
game10.ogg
game11.ogg
game12.ogg
game13.ogg

Some of these files listed do not exist in the archive. There is no briefing.ogg, no endlevel.ogg, no endgame.ogg, and all the ones from (and including) game07.ogg onwards do not exist.

Is there an error with the archive, either missing .ogg files or an incorrect .sng file?
Hmmm...there may be an issue. Try checking out the extended one by him. If that one doesn't look right, try out ThugsRook's. :)

Okay, downloaded ThugsRook's one and checked out all of the different .SNG files. This time there are ogg files for all of the gameXX.ogg names, but they all mention the same four to start with:

descent2.ogg
briefing.ogg
endlevel.ogg
endgame.ogg

of which only descent2.ogg exists. I'm guessing the others don't play.

Now, for which .SNG to play, the Definitive Collection SNG file lists all 14 of the gameXX.ogg files. Though I thought that the ones for Vertigo Series (which must be included there) didn't actually play in the original game as they were just tracks on the Vertigo Series CD, but you used the Descent 2 CD to play.
Oops! I forgot...none of them are corrupted! The .sng files doesn't tell the game what music files to look for. It gives it the order to play the files that are included no matter what their names are.

Also, I just realized some of these are outdated. I've updated the original post with the AddOns from ThugsRook. (They're now .dxa files instead of .zip) If you want to extract them, just rename them to .zip :)
^^
redbook doesnt use briefing.ogg endgame.ogg or endlevel.ogg... but they must be listed on the sheet.
